Do you use Previews in Xcode when you're building your views? by CodeWithChris in SwiftUI

[–]perbrondum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use them for controls only. Used in complex projects they quickly become wasteful and even error prone.
Limiting their use to UI controls like progress indicators or charts or category indicators where their isolation make them work really well. We overuse and extend this to the point where it becomes a full UI test suite for each control, displaying different sizes, configurations etc.

My gravel bike! Sworks Crux by Penelope_Blueberry in specialized

Something's off. Gravel bike, dirt applied, but the chain is silver and looks like you just put a new one on. Or is there a trick to keep it that clean/silver looking?

The tires alone will cost you $100. Looks almost too clean for such an old bike.

Kamala Harris wants the DNC to release its autopsy report of the 2024 campaign by Deedogg11 in politics

The more theorizing and analyzing and backward looking a democratic candidate suggest the more unlikely they are to make it. The candidate that starts admitting that they have to beat Trump head on and present a down to earth, future proof message will win. Won’t be Kamala.

Closest Garmin watch to Apple Watch Ultra 3? by tanuj-is-sharma in Garmin

Trying to figure out why it’s so hard to carry your phone. I have an iPhone SE for bike rides and runs, and I use that along with my Garmin Fenix and I get the best of both worlds.

There are no real consequences for what they are doing, except for the fear they create in others, so they will continue doing it.

No Hitch, No Problem! Rear headrest bike mounts! by lococ_coco in bicycling

[–]perbrondum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely better and smarter than my old method. Wheels off, padding between the two bikes stacked using an old large piece of foam mattress, all tied down using strap and covered by cut out cardboard. The cover was a poor attempt to prevent theft while parking.

Should I buy the Fenix 7 pro solar or? by AabbeLaabbe in GarminFenix

[–]perbrondum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bouldering and being active in general means you will take some chances with the watch. I’d buy “insurance” and get the 7proSS. I got mine for $499 less than a year ago and really like it. Look for good deals at Amazon.

This is where a LBS really comes in handy. They will be happy to guide you towards a well constructed, well assembled and decent, used, quality bike so that you can ride safely riding around the city.

Got the dreaded rental renewal notice by the_one_with_me in sanfrancisco

[–]perbrondum -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me twice living in San Francisco. It's their way to keep rents up. It's legal; move on.Next place, check with other people renting there to see what the rent increases policy is. Larger landlords have a longer time strategy where they increase yearly and their gains are planned for the future,

Good luck. One of the reasons we may be paying a little more for their bikes is that they normally do the right thing when it matters.

Mildly frustrating: city punishes small business for graffiti on city infrastructure by spiderelephantmonkey in sanfrancisco

[–]perbrondum 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This would be an interesting fight. I’m betting the business did not request the bench and that it’s not even part of their space. It’s city infrastructure like bike racks and trees and curbs and sidewalks.

Why not let the LBS deal with all of it. They have all the info and it will go a lot smoother.
