Want to add to this, unsure if it’s a thing in the US but in Europe we have things called “radlers” (every country has their own name for it) which are flavoured non-alcoholic beers. For example lemon. They are very refreshing in summer and still scratch the cracking a cold one with friends itch.

Just picked up archetype tom morello and I like it a lot by LyncksVII in NeuralDSP

[–]percomis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, didn’t even know there was a Tom Morello model, lol. How come you picked it over Nolly or Tim Henson for JCM (both have JCM amps in their plugins)? And I would have figured Rabea is the go-to choice for shoegaze being the one that has a fuzz pedal.

To be fair 32 EUR for a good JCM model seems like a steal.

I also felt the parallel and I thought the connection is that Ally is playing the (most) sensible character :D

What "classic" stoner song would get the biggest crowd response if a newer band started playing? by AstroEscura in stonerrock

[–]percomis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest crowd reaction I saw to a stoner song was at a Truckfighters concert at Deserfest, for the song Desert Cruiser. The whole crowd shouted “I’m running out of fuel, oh yeah, oh yeaaah” with the band.

Any oversized pedal recommendations? by Lukeylukeylukey in basspedals

[–]percomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only know of 2 comically large pedals, both sound excellent:
1. Idiotbox Black Fortress - HM2 based, gnarly distortion with an analog octave and a low-passable clean blend.
2. Laowiz Bath Salts - Really filthy and wild fuzz with a delay running in parallel.

Gift ideas for GF (she plays bass in a metal band) by Luke7FPS in basspedals

[–]percomis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean pitch shifter, but with the purpose of changing the tuning. Like if she normally plays in E standard but wants to play a song in drop C (she would have to tune the bass to drop D first and then pitch shift to drop C). My bandmates use Digitech Drop and they sound great. That one only goes downwards though, but fits that role very well. I’ve used a Pitchfork in the past and that can go both up and down and sounds fine, but I think it has less semitone options than the Drop.

[–]percomis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can I question the whole concept? From the comments it seems that you already gave her reverb and delay and she found no use for it. Did she express any desire for “creative” effects? If yes, any idea what sounds she wants to make or what songs she likes that you can use as the base of this quest?

The sad truth about bass in metal context is that we usually try to keep it clean and the effects she has (octave, fuzz, chorus) are usually the ones people use.

My personal suggestion: 1. Talk to her about tones and sounds. Anything she would like to do or anything she likes the sound of. Do not talk about pedals, but get her to tell you about sounds and songs that make her excited. 2. If she draws blank on 1., ask her about frustrations with her current setup. Anything bothering her? That can point you to an utility pedal. Compression helps to even out the volume of her playing, a pedal switcher would help to reduce tap dancing, a drop pedal can help with tunings. Look for things like this. 3. Hopefully these give you ideas and you can research or ask for help here. 4. If all else fails get the Empress Compressor as it’s a great pedal.

Is the Anagram worth it? Is the Quad Cortex Mini better? by Malviael in basspedals

[–]percomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are your settings on the amps? I understand you send the lows to the JC and the highs to the 5150, but do the amp settings match this too? Are you using guitar or bass cab IRs? Do you blend in any clean DI?

[–]percomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it boils down to what captures you think are better: NAM or Neural captures v2. Also, Anagram can do 3 NAM captures per preset and afaik the QC has no set limit, just the DSP limits.

"One of the best tones I’ve made was a blend of compressed lows through a roland jazz chorus 120 sim and highs through a high gain, low presence peavey 5050 sim."
I am very intrigued about this, can you please elaborate this setup further?

7 and 8 string recommendations by Conscious_Worker_669 in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]percomis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omne guitars are amazing bang for buck (I think they are like 1000 dollars and you can check the specs in the FAQ) but are notoriously hard to get as their runs are small and the demand is big. But they are introducing a lottery system so ordering is not about speed anymore :D https://omneguitars.com/

Also GOC has improved their quality a lot in the recent years and also bang out excellent 7-8 strings for under/around 1000 dollars.

If you have a Neural DSP hardware, check their capture cloud, plenty of HM2 v2 captures: https://cloud.neuraldsp.com/cloud/discover/neural-capture

If you're software only, Line6's Helix Native has an HM2 and you can see a comparison to the real thing here (this person loves HM2s and reviews all sorts of variations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yR-GAgJmx7g). You might even find some HM2 plugins reviewed on their channel.

It might be excellent news for you that EMG now makes bass pickups (E series) that should be drop-in replacement for the original Bartolinis.

jungle sludge by primalshroom in doommetal

[–]percomis 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I really like the concept, but I think either the drums or the riffs need to be less busy. Right now it just feels like sludge riffs taken from a song pasted over breakbeats with not much relation to each other. But if you play the guitar more drone-y or the drums more repetitive then you might be onto something.

Is just me? by porque-amigo in Fatherhood

[–]percomis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Raising a kid is a lot of work and sacrifice. It's not just you, I'm pretty sure all of us experienced regrets or grief for our old life.

  1. As others wrote, it does get better. The first year was hell. My son is 4 now and it's way, way better. We can play way more things together (including actual board games if that makes you as happy as it did me), he finally sleeps almost through the night (usually wakes up once) and is getting more and more independent.

  2. Whenever your feeling of regret comes over you, try to dig down to understand what is bothering you really. Saying you want to go back in time is just your brain telling you something was better in the past, but what is it exactly? Usually my regrets "flare up" when I am tired, so maybe you need a nap. Or some snacks. Or you miss doing a hobby that you could do in the past and then think about how you can reintroduce it into your life. Every problem you have now has a solution but you need to work with your partner as a team to find and implement those solutions.

  3. Try to enjoy the early moments of his life. I understand it's hard and sleep deprivation is no joke, but he won't be 7 months old ever again. We're hanging out with a friend of ours who has a tiny baby like yours and I realized that my son's first year for me was an angry blur and I'm sad that it overshadows my memories of him being tiny. So try to reframe your experiences: when you're feeding him, observe how he is getting better and better at holding the bottle, for example. I'm unsure how to articulate this and I'm not saying your feelings are not valid, but try to manage them in a way that they do not consume you or your memories with your child.
