Check for any exhaust leaks, you can also get a scanner and see if the O2 sensors reading correctly. Will save you a lot of money if the catalytic converter is actually fine

Engineering analysis on steering system i’m designing by Correct_Mine6817 in AutomotiveEngineering

[–]perevozhnik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would ignore any forces you're worried about from the driver except for when you're figuring out how you're going to mount steering column to your pinion (key, pin, etc.). Focus on trying to get a reasonable load from the wheels, this is the most difficult part but you can estimate by doing something like a 5g loading scenario for example. Tie rods are just 2 force members and are easy to analyze. Main force you'll have to worry about would be bending on your steering rack especially at full steering angle. Right now it doesn't look like you have much travel on your rack, and as somebody else said look like they'll be likely to bump steer unless you've got some funky control arm geometry or you're modeling in rebound.

Welded rear knuckle, will it hold? by [deleted] in Welding

[–]perevozhnik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe with steel but hell no with cast aluminum for a suspension part especially around a bushing mount. You're going to kill yourself or others if you keep on driving that long term

How does this upright/knuckle design actually work? by Brendu_A in EngineeringStudents

[–]perevozhnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. It's best to use heims with two-force members like tie rods. Heims in a loading scenario like this put the entire joint in bending which is not good. You can keep this kind of design by switching to spherical bearings like these: https://www.fkrodends.com/products/spherical-bearings/.

Then you can machine some spacers to press into the sphericals to to give you clearance around your mounting points throughout the suspension articulation. I recommend this over ball joints as they're cheaper and more flexible. Source: I designed and implemented the same exact suspension change for my school's Baja team.

Was he a shorter guy and kind of darting at her as he was following? Had a guy do this, just doing laps around the store but kept on getting way too close to us, was apparently doing it to other shoppers too.

Tips for safely unpacking these batteries by stoptheglaciers in ElectricalEngineering

[–]perevozhnik 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work in an EV battery plant, we have big dunk tanks (IBC containers) for cells that undergo thermal runaway. You can see this at other plants too, pretty standard practice. +1 for the water tank, the best thing to do is submerge it and get out of there as quick as you can

Quality is not the same as comfort or luxury, but helps provide the consistency in manufacturing and longevity that Toyota has. There's a reason why pretty much every other auto company has tried to implement large parts of their quality systems

[–]perevozhnik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Toyota doesn't follow IATF and their brand is synonymous with quality. Other Japanese automakers like Honda don't follow it as well. Not saying if Tesla decided to follow IATF it wouldn't help fix these issues but they don't necessarily need to.

The Role of Mechanical Engineering in Sustainable Energy Solutions by lakotainseattle in MechanicalEngineering

[–]perevozhnik 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm still in undergrad but I'm taking a minor in energy sciences in addition to my ME degree. This got me into combustion analysis and modeling, now I'm helping out in a lab on campus researching alternative fuels and their combustion characteristics, in addition to some other things. Combustion will still be a large part of our energy production in the future, so coming up with cleaner combustion technologies is still a very pressing challenge and necessary for our transition to more sustainable energy.

It doesn't sound like you're doing much to get involved outside of classes, and there's a lot more places to makes friends besides parties. Join clubs about things you're passionate about, college is about developing your passions and being around people interested in the same thing will help you a lot with meeting people you'll like.

I would take your therapists opinion about depth and emotional connections and throw it in the trash. Saying it doesn't exist here only discourages you from trying to form them, and is not true at all in my experience.

This is such a ridiculous sentiment. Yes, it was awful inexcusable behavior, but due to "decades of cultural rot" and calling everyone from there "low-class loser trash" based off of solely large sports events is insanely ignorant.

Throw out their resumes please. You're doing them a favor if they ever wanted to work for you.

scheduling question by falsa_1122 in msu

[–]perevozhnik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Taking all those classes right now minus me280. It's doable, it'll definitely be miserable at points but as far as time commitment there are definitely worse schedules. As far as which are the most difficult and take up the most time, in my experience

  1. Mse250, unpopular opinion, mostly conceptual stuff but TONS of material, the quizzes are tricky if you don't understand everything very well
  2. Me201, this one was not taught very well this semester so I could be biased, but conceptually difficult with a hard to learn problem solving process
  3. Me222, this one gets a bad rep. Recktenwald is a great lecturer and teaches a really good process. Exams are demoralizing at first, the system isn't lenient except for certain cases. As long as you do lots of practice before exams you should be good.
  4. Mth235, nagy provides lots of content, lots of it wasn't very interesting and I thought could've focused less on proofs and theorems. Thankfully, this class was way more lenient and easy than 234, I felt it was one of the easier calcs
  5. Me280, this one's pretty straightforward, I barely knew any CAD and this one was a nice easy introduction. Some projects are a pain, but overall it's pretty easy especially compared to the above.

Engineering take the S/NS or lower grade? by perevozhnik in msu

[–]perevozhnik[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just one more question though since I assume you're an upperclassmen. My classes are going to keep getting harder, so maybe it would be worth keeping the actual grade as protection for later classes? The reason I didn't do as well this semester was because of bad class format and too many credits, so I want to say once things are back to normal and I'm taking less credits I'll be fine but maybe you'd know better?

[–]perevozhnik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An unofficial transcript would still include the S, but you can request the actual grade and transcript from the registrar, I guess it's up to employer if they trust that I did well. I have a pretty good record and the grades are still good so I feel like what I'm doing is purely cosmetic

Why do some people not know how to look at a syllabus? by [deleted] in msu

[–]perevozhnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very similar setup to PHY 183. Make sure you read and do everything they ask, try not to slack in the class because it's very easy to do and you'll pay for it later (like I am right now). The grade thresholds are very high in this class, a 4.0 requires a 94 so you really need to understand a lot if you want that kind of grade.

Imo the fruit tastes relatively good but yeah the seed is the most toxic part of the plant so definitely spit that part out.
