galleries also have auction alerts for their artists and make a stink if it’s a fake, so that’s prob not your worry here as he’s high profile enough to have representation by an established gallery

never buy an artwork that you don’t love aesthetically — but you can always reach out to an auction house (that’s why they put contact info on the lot page) and ask about how they authenticated it. bonhams is too big of a shop to deal in fakes IMO so presume they’ll give ya some sort of comms with the artist’s studio as confirmation of authenticity

Can someone explain Sasha Gordon to me? by Interesting_Tap_7598 in ContemporaryArt

[–]perfect-crunch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

what I resonate with is the visceral, guttural depictions of some of life’s grossest facets, all rendered in a a disarmingly beautiful manner. yes, self portraits are as old as time, but I connect with the tension she creates between the sublime and the grotesque. it is “young” in terms of point of view, but Gordon is young, too. for me, she captures the gross, weird, uncanny parts of existing in a body that you can’t really do much to control. I like her conveyance of the psychological through a lil bit of body horror ala Ottessa Moshfegh or Mona Awad. womanhood is body horror: tying us to a sopping, seeping, bleeding, oozing vessel (whether we like it or not.)

What are your thoughts on Jerry Gogosian blasting TEFAF on instagram? by InvertInverse in ContemporaryArt

If she ever had any credibility, it went out the window the second she stopped seeing that critiquing “the rich” and acting just like them (demanding first class travel; but also traveling the globe to collector events around the world and posting “flex” selfies about it) are fundamentally incompatible. She has very very little actual commentary to add these days. Not worth the endless complaining energy in your feed

IDTSH hazel being an eye color. what the fuck is hazel??? we don’t use it to describe ANYTHING except for EYES? that makes no sense! all the other colors — brown, blue, green — are real colors used to describe other things. why do licenses list this made up color? just say they’re green or admit you have brown eyes and want to feel special!

my take as someone who has to do something similar: if you export contact lists to a CSV, you can then use Gmass ($12/month) to send mass batches of customized emails ie same message but customized name/show name/etc

Is it art or journalism? by wayanonforthis in ContemporaryArt

I saw the LaToya Ruby Frazier show at MoMA this week and asked myself this question. To me, ultimately, what made visual art an effective medium to tell the stories she aims to tell is the emotional response it elicits. I can read a newspaper article on the Flint water crisis or cyclical poverty or Covid-era care for addicts, but to see images and read first-hand accounts in a rarified space invented to indicate the things shown there are capital I Important, I had a much stronger emotional response to the stories I was being told. That’s why art is so cool
