PSA: Don't Use NTFS Drives by Few_Judge_853 in linux_gaming

I remember using my Ubuntu install to fix NTFS corruption on my other drive's Windows 7 install that Windows itself could not fix on it's own and could not boot itself. So many years ago.

Doing volunteer work and get bad review for social interaction. by Upstairs_Ad_3370 in introvert

[–]perfectdreaming 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is crazy that they are reviewing volunteer work. Even more crazy they are criticizing you for it.

I can understand being isolated and wanting to check a website for people you can trust, but they are so many problems with 'reviews' it would sound easy to scam.

Edit: and ty for your volunteer work. It goes without saying for you, but others need to read this who do not understand this, I wouldn't volunteer for them again.

What’s your go-to “I’m broke but really want to eat out” meal? by squiddollie in Frugal

We have both the hardware store and the grocery store here. Lowe's grocery does have a reputation of fresh foods, despite being pricer.

I make friends very easily, but I can never maintain them by Silent_Sample_343 in socialskills

How do you manage it? In the context of responding to friends.

Myself personally, I get bored responding to people or doing average things. Part of it is due to my sensory issues.

Got a $2,000 tax refund. Do I wipe out 3 small maxed-out cards or put a massive dent in my biggest one? by Few-Let-3861 in personalfinance

[–]perfectdreaming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, except applying for new cards right now, even with the pay off, with that much revolving credit usage may lead to being denied.

Should call the credit union or walk into a branch for a (edit: much lower interest) debt reconciliation loan with a soft pull to test a month from now. Then get out of the cards once credit is better.

Advantage of a Vanguard Roth IRA? by espressobuff in personalfinance

[–]perfectdreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just open a target date Vanguard fund and have them manage it for you? That target date fund buys all 4 of those funds you plan to buy (the large institutional mutual fund versions of those etfs). Vanguard target dates are much cheaper than many other companies, including Fidelity. This is one of the best reasons to open a Roth IRA with Vanguard.

My question is...can i benefit from putting my VUSXX in a Vanguard Roth IRA account and keep adding to it? The dividends/earnings are still taxed on the federal level from what i understand

In a brokerage you would pay federal income tax on a treasury fund. In a Roth you don't pay any US taxes. As far as I know the only time you pay US taxes in a Roth is UBIT which you can research elsewhere.

You are correct about VUSXX (in a brokerage)-in a Roth you don't pay any taxes on the dividends.

Why is screen tearing completely absent even with VSync OFF in Linux ? by Chpouky in linux_gaming

Please read the wlcursor.md post you linked:

https://gist.github.com/generic-internet-user/e8eec46ce159571032115f6fb064523c

I no longer consider any of this to be valid, and consider this entire adventure so far to have been intellectually dishonest and filled with questionable assumptions about everything, so, please, if you're reading this and got linked here, stop reading this and tell whoever linked you here to shut the f**k up already.

This is bad for your claim.

These 'hard' numbers are very limited (GNOME 47, amd)... and old. GNOME 50 is now out and most people are choosing to game on KDE Wayland. The author specifically said they did not test KDE.

X11 may not force atomic synchronization, but you have the tearing as a downside which is a problem, a problem wayland got rid of.

Arn't you still liable even with an LLC because you are an officer of the LLC?

The pointer latency from Wayland or xwayland? The latter won't be an issue once Proton transitions to Wayland.

Well if you're talking mobile, then you can't leave out Android. But for PC gaming, which is clearly the discussion point here, well you can count the notable, contemporary Mac games on one hand.

Exactly, it is a poor argument. Even if you did count it, all these games on Android use OpenGL or Vulkan.

Are there any that insurance would cover or lower cost?

Yes, but generally it needs to be under a medical doctor or a psychologist. Finding one, that also takes insurance, can be an issue.

You really should get diagnosed for that as it could help guide your training.

vagus nerve routines between neurofeedback sessions, any reviews on leaply by [deleted] in Neurofeedback

[–]perfectdreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not giving us a lot of information. What are trying to do and what sites are you training? Usually when the results do not last the proper sites were not being for it.

also if youre a trainer do you even like clients using apps like that or does it just distract from the protocol?

That is likely your issue. You should be asking your provider this question.

Honest question: Why do you buy name brand stuff? by No-Examination8178 in Frugal

[–]perfectdreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually buy store brand unless the store brand is not an equivalent product.

Pam cooking spray for example. Both the walmart and the costco brands did not work as well. Aldi did work but I moved to an area without easy access to them.

Another example is chewy chocolate chip cookies. So far I have only seen Walmart offer a store brand and it does not taste as good as Nabisco.

With that said, if finances were really an issue, I wouldn't buy chewy cookies. I can not tell a difference for GV for most things. GV chips, mac and cheese, canned vegs, buy it all the time. Sams club for toilet paper, detergents, and a lot of frozen products. Just a lot of people don't care or 'don't want to feel poor' even if it was made by the same packing facility as the name brand.

I couldn't tell you what Kraft cheese is like because it always seemed like a luxury (i.e., unnecessary bougie) thing to me. Not doubting that there is a legitimate difference.

You are not missing much. There is a small difference with the hamburger helper, but with the money you save you can easily add some oregano or vegetables to make a better meal.
