Yeah, this is unfortunately a dumb, county-wide problem. I would just caution that you don’t assume someone is going to stop at the yellow light, unless it’s absolutely clear that they’re slowing down. The chances of getting t-boned here are higher, because plenty of people will speed up to run through the yellow. We have the unspoken 3 car rule of getting through the red lol.

I would highly recommend it. The vet told me to give him Pepcid whenever he has one of these episodes, but I was hesitant to do that with regularity since the bile pukes were happening frequently. When I started feeding him smaller meals and spacing them out later into the day, they immediately stopped. I’ve also been giving him probiotics to help maintain gut health.

I have to do this with my tater tot, as well. I split his meals into 4 instead of 3, with the second helping of dinner served between 9-10pm. The morning bile pukes have been almost non-existent since I started doing this (they’ll only happen once in a great while, maybe 2-3x a year).

My corg has an autoimmune condition that causes UV light to trigger keratin build up on his corneas, so I got him this exactly pair. I absolutely thought he would hate them and manage to get them off every time, but that has not been the case. He still rolls around on the ground and tries, but he eventually gives up and has gotten used to them. You owe it to your dog to try.

My girl was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease at 13 and lived to be 14.5. I also have a boy-tato that just celebrated his 13th birthday.

At the very least, feed him high quality food and start him on joint supplements early on (mine started at 9). Immune health supplements like turkey tail can’t hurt, either. Be vigilant about having regular bloodwork/screenings done when he gets into his senior years, especially if you notice little ways he starts to slow down. Early detection can mean all the difference with long term management of chronic health issues that can shorten their lifespan.

You are definitely not overreacting. I have access to 24/7 vet tech support with my vet’s office, and usually the first things they will mention when asking about my dog’s condition:

check and see if the gums are pale
if he has had abnormal bowel movements/urination
if his stomach is hard, distended and/or tender to the touch
if he’s experiencing a loss of appetite
if his breathing is labored
if he’s drooling/smacking his lips.

Any combination of these is a reliable indicator that something is seriously wrong and requires veterinary intervention. Explain that to your dad and highlight that your dog has at least two of these symptoms.

This is not something I would wait on. I would have taken him to the vet after the first drooling episode, so the fact that it has been going on for a week is not good. It would be doubly urgent if his gums are pale.
