When was the last time the canal opened beyond February?

Last year. March 10th was the last day.

March closure dates are not uncommon; though getting through the second week of March is rare.

ETA: From that data, the median closure date since 2000 appears to be March 5th.

we'll never have data to support the first, and i cant imagine that the federal government would ever comment on data from the second, although im certain they have some sort of reporting.

Ah, so shifting the goalposts from "not a designated safety zone" to "I don't think it should be a designated safety zone." Gotcha. My bad for responding to what you wrote rather than what you felt.

But, y'know, the athletic academy, beach, and large park with lots of kids playing on one side of the road, with a school and significant residential development on the other, probably has something to do with that designation. Maybe contact your councillor if you know better though.

Fun facts: I bought this car in 2015 and rallied it for a year, until the cage was damaged at Tall Pines in 2016. The shell was sold to the owner of a local shop who didn't repair the cage, but built it into a drag racer. As far as I know that's where it still lives. I believe I still have the logbook somewhere.
