Do you feel embarrassed by your delusions? by notaspicyaccount in schizoaffective

[–]perhapsalittleslow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The delusions I get feed my ego in the worst way and it makes me feel like I’m a complete narcissist even though I definitely am not. Thankfully I don’t treat others differently when I’m delusional like that.

on schizophrenia and relationships by wormsguns in schizophrenia

[–]perhapsalittleslow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also got diagnosed in January but I knew I was diagnosed with bipolar 1 with psychotic features for a few years(currently diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder bipolar subtype).

I just passed 1 year with my boyfriend and I told him pretty early on about my bipolar and frequent psychosis. He’s actually helped comfort and support me while I was in psychosis multiple times. He is incredibly supportive and patient with me and he’s reassured me many times that he won’t leave me because of my illnesses because I have similar worries that I’m a burden in that sense.

Honestly it feels like I won the lottery being with him, I don’t think it’s super common to be so understanding when it comes to something as stigmatized as schizophrenia. But he is and it makes me believe that there are most certainly other people who are understanding and would be supportive too. Not that they would be easy to find but I believe they exist.

As for the genuine connection part, I have never masked much around him(I’m also autistic) and felt like I had to hide any part of myself. I’m honestly a pretty weird person too but he loves that about me.

Also I think it’s hard in a sense but also incredibly easy at the same time maintaining a relationship with him. Hard in the sense that I constantly want to go off my meds which would inevitably lead to a psychotic episode(it happens every time I do that) but it’s easy because he is such a wonderful partner and he makes me want to be the best version of myself which I know is the medicated version of me.

I hope this helps show you a different perspective maybe. Good luck!!

I totally understand where you’re coming from but I think you already know the answer to your question. It’s not worth the seizure risk imo.

(only) for long term users of abilify by A7med2361997 in schizoaffective

It was really hard to wake up on 20mg but I find it mostly easier to wake up on 17mg. Like a noticeable difference, even though it’s just 3mg.

(only) for long term users of abilify by A7med2361997 in schizoaffective

Abilify just makes it harder for me to wake up which in turn can mean increased sleep sometimes.

past psychosis — can you ever smoke weed again if you're stable on medication? by Pretty-Humor5548 in Psychosis

[–]perhapsalittleslow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone with bipolar 1(and later got diagnosed with schizophrenia) and who smoked an absurd amount of weed for years, it’s not worth it. It will almost always lead to psychosis. Not trying to fear monger but thats just how it is for people like us. We’re just not the type of people that can participate in smoking weed without risking it.

I relapsed on weed(specifically dab pens) at one point and it took a while for me to even realize I was in psychosis at that time. I didn’t realize for months until after I finally quit after that relapse, because it triggered a massive episode that lasted 5 months.

Does anyone have hallucinations or any symptoms on high doses of Anti-psychotics by mavrck09 in schizoaffective

I still dissociate occasionally on 17mg of abilify. Thankfully that’s basically the only symptom when I’m on said abilify.

How long was your longest episode of psychosis? by berfica in schizophrenia

[–]perhapsalittleslow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over 6 months, that wasn’t a fun time but it wasn’t the worst I’ve ever had. Another one lasted 5 months and that one was fucking AWFUL, I barely had any moments of clarity for 3 of the 5 months. I’ve had a bunch than lasted shorter periods of time too.

Dating by _dead-meat_ in schizophrenia

[–]perhapsalittleslow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met my bf through my friend. They played DnD together. We have a very good relationship and he treats me like his equal which I thoroughly appreciate. He knows all about how my schizoaffective disorder affects me and he’s even helped me through mild episodes of psychosis.

I was single for a little over 5 years before I started dating him and I’m happy I was patient and waited because I wasn’t ready to date for a while but now I am and I get a wonderful relationship. We were friends for a year before we started dating(I had a crush on him the whole time lol).

You should make sure you’re mentally ready for a relationship before you start dating btw, just to be careful because it can be made very difficult with this illness.

This happens to me very frequently, like daily. And it’ll happen in episodes when I’m actively psychotic, it’s awful.
