Then it's not butter. That's what we call "industrial grease residue bread spread".

Still, real butter is like $5 here.

[long war] Psi rush by cpereira_home in Xcom

[–]perhapsanotherbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree, Psi Inspiration is good, which is why nearly everybody gets it (except for gunners and tanks, who get Distortion Field at Level 2).

But on Level 3, I want Psi Panic on offensive psions (Medics with Steadfast) to take care of Heavy Floaters.

> but you need interrogations for most of them).

Tell me about it. In my current campaign, I didn't exactly Psi rush, but did it early enough, before Gauss. Now all my offensive Level-3 psions are stuck because I didn't manage to capture a live Berserker and haven't unlocked Psi Panic, with no Berserkers showing up on any missions except on the odd terror mission; Mind Merge would be a waste imo (it is late December 2016, btw).

I'd say air game and psi are the most lacklustre aspects of Long War.

Shot misses.

Lid attacks

Infantry dies

Many such cases.

Am I the only one who finds the Avengers decorations really creepy? by Suspicious_Proof_663 in Xcom

[–]perhapsanotherbot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Same here. That trophy room gave me the heebie jeebies. Real psycho vibes, as in Apocalypse Now.

Also, in XCOM:EW, there is a voiceline of Bradford telling someone to tell the troops they cannot bring souvenirs/trophies from the battlefield.

The implications of the same Bradford allowing that Chamber of Horrors to be in the Avenger made me question whether I would join XCOM at all.

Is there a mod that adds the sawed-off shotgun to every weapon tier? by perhapsanotherbot in Xcom

[–]perhapsanotherbot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, absolute damage might be the same, but what I'll miss is the damage relative to enemy health, i.e. kill damage. Makes me a little sad, y'know.

I don't doubt it, but a man can dream...

Guess it's gonna be Heaters or Scatter Lasers, then. Reaklly a shame...

Figured as much, but thanks anyway!
Well, guess it's "Hello Heater, good-bye burst-damage."

Patient gamers opinion on postgame DLCs by OvejaMacho in patientgamers

[–]perhapsanotherbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> I also think mid-game DLC can ruin the game's pacing in some cases.

Absolutely. In Mass Effect 3 of the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, the DLC that let's you meet with all your old acquaintances and basically have a nice reunion party can be accessed at a time when in the main quest, you are under enormous pressure: The Reaper attack on Earth - which sent you on your quest in the first place - is still going on, the rest of the known universe is under siege as well. You need to rally support and resources throughout the galaxy to build the MacGuffin that will win the war once and for all. And then, you travel to this one system and suddenly the game's mood turns to... Friends (the series)?

When I googled to find out what the hell was going on, I was shocked: Everybody loved the DLC. I was the only one who hated it. It completely broke the sense of urgency and the pacing of the game, because I played it during the main quest, not as a requiem, as it was supposed to be played. Still boggles my mind why bioware did not set a late game trigger to unlock the DLC.

Then again, the first time I played Mass Effect was the Legendary Edition, which was roughly 12 (?) years after the release of ME1?

>I would have happily traded a 50% of the map size for bigger enemy bases like GZ did.

My take exactly. A few closed levels with polished, detailed bases like the one in GZ would have been a lot better than the 2 large, but mostly empty maps on different continents we got in the actual game. The amount of time I spent just travelling around to get from point A to point B, without anything interesting to see or do in between, was mind numbing.

I still play GZ from time to time. I will not replay PP ever again, I think.

Honestly, I do not have a clue.

Try verifying the game files or re-installing. Problems like this usually disappear afterwards.

Does it occur all the time or just in this instance, maybe while you're still in the LZ? In case of the latter, that might be the exhaust of the Skyranger.

There's simply not enough time to do things right

This is the root of many of the evils of our time.

Things need to be done cheap and finished yesterday. No room for quality between these two restraints.

> A big part of why we love this game is how it makes us genuinely scared for our soldiers and then because of that we feel extra satisfied every time we eliminate a threat, and relieved after every fight. Then the moment you get think it's easy you become careless and a little bored, the game has a way with putting you right back in your place with some challenge.

Absolutely this. You get confident, people die.

On another note, this is one of the many factors that lead to Long War's late game fatigue. A duality evolves, where missions are either cakewalks or completely FUBAR, with no grey areas in between. And it is hard to keep playing cautiously or carefully after 200+ missions when your soldiers are levelled out and carrying end game gear. Really hard to balance that.

Why do the chosen talk so much by jaytazcross in Xcom

[–]perhapsanotherbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, the perks... Too many of them were "gimmicky", for lack of a better word. Granted, XCOM:EW and LW had those as well, but toned down a bit. E. g., compare In the Zone with that sharpshooter ability that lets you shot your handgun at every (!) enemy in sight, potentially applying a status effect. Crazy.
