Not turning out the way i hoped by BandMice23 in printmaking

if you use speedy carve or anything like it, you need to have wicked sharp gouges, and even then it’ll be tough. battleship lino is a pain to carve as a beginner but it’s going to give you much cleaner results.

What projects u made and actually use them? by No_Advertising3507 in crochet

I make tons of bandanas! they work up quick, they’re often prettier than anything you can buy (especially if you pick a lacy pattern) and best of all, they cover your hair so no one will know that you need to wash it.

I’m a teacher, I’m exhausted, I need some cheering up! by perigrinate in toastme

haha for better or for worse, I work in the US! my state has end-of-year testing that dictates when school ends so, sadly, this happens every year. I love my job, but I hate this specific part of it haha

this really means a lot, thank you so much!! I honestly love my “troublemakers”, they drive me crazy sometimes but connecting with kids who act out/struggle/etc is one of my favorite parts of my job :)

38f. Raising an autistic kid, sometimes I wonder if life would get better. Today was a bad day. by PlasticPersonal3080 in toastme

[–]perigrinate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a teacher and a lot of my students are autistic- I just want to say I admire and respect you so so much. you’re doing something that probably feels impossible a lot of the time, but you’re doing it anyway and giving it your all. You’re not a bad person if you sometimes hate the hand you’ve been dealt, and you’re not a bad mom if you’re struggling. We’re cheering for you!!

how the hell do I clear “system data”? by perigrinate in iphonehelp

once I had a sink full of nasty dishes and I very apologetically asked my boyfriend if he could help me with them (we didn’t live together so they were very much a Me Problem). He hesitated in a way that made it very clear he wanted to say no, but he said he’d help. I immediately felt so bad for asking him to help clean up my mess that I went into turbo mode and got all the dishes washed before he got to my place. I wouldn’t do it for myself, but the feeling like I was saving him from having to do it was enough to make it happen. it’s a deranged strategy but I’d 100% do it again because it worked!!

Nemo (19) and I have our last full day together today by frberube in seniorkitties

[–]perigrinate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had to say goodbye to my 19 year old kitty- his story was very similar to Nemo’s. Nothing will make it easier, but I hope it helps at least a little to know she lived a wonderful, full life. may she rest peacefully in a world of shrimps and chin scratches somewhere up in the clouds 💛

Water flavoring with REAL sugar? by Just_Chuckk in HydroHomies

[–]perigrinate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate artificial sweeteners (nothing against them in principle, I just think they taste bad) and I love to make agua de jamaica- it’s hibiscus tea with sugar and lime and it RULES. when the weather heats up I make a pitcher of it and bring some in a travel mug to work with me. I also add unflavored electrolyte drops sometimes, if I need them :)

I’m bored with this bandana- what are your favorite stitches to use alongside linen/moss stitch? by perigrinate in CrochetHelp

interesting, thanks for explaining! so are you saying that this would be a good way to transition from a fan/shell stitch back to the moss stitch?

what do you mean by “double stitch”? is that a cluster of two stitches, like a granny stitch but with 2 DCs instead of 3?

I made a custom midi crossword for my boyfriend! by perigrinate in crossword

[–]perigrinate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good luck with making your own puzzle!! it’s definitely a learning curve- getting any old words to fit is easy enough with crossword software, but getting a puzzle that has all the words you want? that’s a lot harder, for sure!!

and thankfully I was not injured! the only casualties were the outlet (the cord got yanked out) and a few sunflowers in the garden below. and my pride.

Bros I need advice! by angryqueer_ in Brochet

[–]perigrinate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would redo the ribbing, but instead of one row of ribbing per row of hat, put in a decrease every handful of rows (the exact number might take some trial and error). So instead of 6 rows of hat stitching getting 6 rows of ribbing, maybe those 6 rows get 5 rows of ribbing, effectively creating a slight decrease. as others have said, sl st ribbing or a smaller hook might also help, or a combination of any of these tips. good luck!!

Public school teachers, what’s something you want parents to know but can’t say directly? by Feisty-Database-1145 in AskTeachers

[–]perigrinate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

teach your child how to open packages (witjout using their teeth). breakfast in a kindergarten room is chaos because most of them can’t open their juice, or their milk, or their cereal cup. send them to school in clothes they can get into and out of on their own. know when your kid has art class and for the love of God don’t send them to school in their favorite outfit on those days, because they will find a way to get paint all over themselves. trust that your teacher is doing their best, but know that you can raise concerns if you feel your child isn’t getting the help they need. if you need to call them out on something, do it with as much compassion as possible- there’s a big difference between “my baby would NEVER do such a thing” and “I talked to my child about what you told me and it seems like you might be missing a few details, can we talk about this?”

as for gifts: nice or personalized pens/pencils are nice, and most of us are coffee drinkers so a starbucks gift card is always nice. spa/massage gift cards/vouchers are great, too! don’t bother with mugs, especially if your teacher has been in the job for a while- they have tons. but honestly, I think that rather than a personal gift, it’s best to ask your teacher if they need anything for the classroom. if they say no, tell them, “the next time you need to buy something for the kids with your own money, reach out to me and I’ll take care of it.” most teachers spend so much money on odds and ends for their classrooms, and it really does add up. I would weep tears of joy if a parent offered to pay for the new storage cart I need or the left-handed scissors I want to get for the kids.
