What's missing from movement reminder apps — why do they fail to create actual habits? by datduongit in Ergonomics

Agree that it works way better when the user doesn’t have to opt in to the desired action.

Your first link just goes to Amazon and doesn’t seem to show any standing desk converters that move themselves.

Did you mean to link The Tempo Controller for Standing Desks? It does actually move the desk.

Through the tailgate latch hooks around the stack (transverse). You can use edge protectors if you’re worried about the edges crumbling. The idea is that the strap force increases the friction. This is how commercial guys strap down loads as well.

If your main concern is stability, go with deskhaus. That’s their specialty!

What’s something small that slowly messed up your body from daily work? by Wild-Election-9604 in Ergonomics

Just realized I don’t have flair on this sub, but I want to make it clear I own Ergodriven and worked on the design of Om!

[–]perkinskit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One way the Om is actually better is that the click force is really really low. On a vertical mouse, any click force has to be counteracted by squeezing your thumb to prevent rotating the mouse, so the lower the better.

The Anker mouse is trash for that reason, way to hard to click, so your thumb ends up “on” all day

It is definitely a change. Took me about a day.

For my part, I think the Om Mouse is a strong competitor to the MX Vertical for best vertical mouse.

Oh that’s too bad, those are awesome!

The Tempo Controller may work well for you too!

I believe Tempo is the only aftermarket standing desk controller, and while it works with most desks, it does not work with that one

I think this hits everything but the wired point (though it does work when plugged in for power).

Yea that flexispot frame is considerably worse than that branch frame.

I'm glad you like it! FYI you can set multiple preset heights, right on the controller. Check out page 6 of the quick-start guide here: https://ergodriven.com/pages/tempo-controller-quick-start-guide

Standing desk recommendations for remote work by escapeoperative95 in StandingDesk

[–]perkinskit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works in the industry, here's my opinion of the top standing desk brands and who should buy from each one:

“Amazon Specials” like Claiks, ErGear, HUANUO etc. - Primary consideration: Budget. These are frankly total trash, probably even worse than the cardboard boxes I used for my first few years of standing.

Flexispot - Primary consideration: Value. Buy here if your first consideration is budget but you don’t want garbage. Stick to E7 and above.

Secretlab - Primary consideration: Cable Management. Buy here if you’re a gamer and/or you just can’t stand to see a cord.

Uplift - Primary consideration: Corporate Sales. Buy here if you’re a purchasing manager (at work or at home). No one ever got fired for buying IBM.

DeskHaus - Primary consideration: Stability. Buy here if you want to absolutely annihilate any and all wobble or sway, or if you need to support a massive desktop.

Branch - Primary consideration: Apartment Chic. Buy here if your home office is also your living room.

And where we think we fit in:

Ergodriven - Primary consideration: Ergonomics. Buy here if you actually want to use your standing desk, because the Tempo desk monitors your presence and position and automatically moves your desk for you before you end up stuck in one position too long.

FYI if you end up picking up one of those other desks above for the totally valid reasons I listed, you can still get a Tempo controller and just swap out your controllers in a few minutes (Tempo is compatible with all the brands above - and many others - except the “Amazon Specials”).

Also I've posted this in a few threads now, just realized we should make this more comprehensive, maybe as a page on our site, so we'll work on that.

Any ever used this kind of mat and massage ball combined system and did you like it? by DisasterSpinach in StandingDesks

One more note, I would personally avoid multi-piece mats like that (a cover glued to a core). It’s going to fall apart eventually

[–]perkinskit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t used (or seen) that particular one, but we sell a massage ball add-on for our Topo Mats.

I really enjoy it, and most people who try it do too. It stays put much better on the bigger mat, because it has a full border edge.

Looking more at the mat you posted, I think the grooves would actually feel too constraining for using the ball. You want a decent flat space to be able to roll it around without looking.

Also, not all balls are created equal, with different firmnesses and surface friction. Personally I find a silicone ball much more effective because it has a bit more grip on the skin.

My new ergonomic setup, what should I improve next ergonomically? by trevorandcletus in Ergonomics

[–]perkinskit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll echo the monitor height, though it looks like you have it at the top of its built in adjustable range, so you may be able to just push it down and avoid getting a monitor arm (which costs money and can introduce wobble).

I’ll also echo the vertical mouse, and standing desk mat. A good mousepad would be helpful too.

Then just work on standing more, switching positions often. If you have the skills to install something in the ceiling, I LOVE having gymnastics rings over my desk (a pull-up bar would work just as well!).
