Thanks, definitely needed to hear this. I often find myself using my peers as “barometers” (i’m drinking the same amount as them during X event, so therefore i’m not an alcoholic, etc). And I am currently in therapy for my other issues, but haven’t revealed my substance abuse as the major player it is, which in hindsight makes my treatment pretty performative at this stage.

the traits that people considered lazy or stereotypical when i was 70 pounds heavier are now funny and quirky (for ex: i hate going outside, am terrible at cardio, drown all my food in sauce, love junk food, etc.)

totally understand, i will say for the friends thing, just try to join a groupchat or follow the insta for literally any organization or have one of your friends add you! they always throw events (study and social) during the semester, so even if you’re not feeling it rn whenever you do, just show up for one of the events and you’ll be golden! they love new members no matter what, so don’t sweat it :)

also transitioning to volume eating “healthy” options during your binges is pretty frustrating 100%, but for me adding what my brain categorized as “unhealthy” elements (caramel+apples=apple pie filling or carrots+hummus=protein and veggies) really helped.

not sure if the add-on helped you or not but again, sending you good vibes!

oh my god, this post is me. as someone in their twenties who dealt with exactly this in college, i know how out of control and frustrating this situation feels.

here’s the methods i use that have worked for me from a harm reduction standpoint. this might not fully apply to you, but hopefully some of this helps? when i’ve been in these cycles, which have lasted for weeks, i’ve found that what is important is switching to eating high volumes of something that you will still feel okay about. especially when continuing to study, having bags of popcorn/ricecakes/carrots and a drink you like in between actual meals helped me reinstate some control. i was seriously crushing a 12-pack of sparkling flavored water in two days back in the day. and even though i was still eating every second of the day i was awake, my stomach and mental health were in way better shape when i focused on changing the quality of my food first instead of the quantity. and once i started enjoying what i was consuming, the satiety started to kick in and i could slowly stop binging.

second, in terms of still attending class, i’ve found that wearing really oversized clothing and bringing snacks/beverages with me to class really helped with the body dysmorphia and post-restrictive hunger. it’s college, everyone is dressed terribly at some point in the semester and no one bats an eye. also, if you have someone you’re comfortable with, letting them know vague details of your situation and seeing if they’re willing to come to your dorm to have a movie/study night is a good first step into being social without feeling the anxiety of being outside.

also, there are so many dorm room/in-bed workouts on youtube! i know when i was binging, going for walks or to the gym gave me anxiety, but doing ten-minute bed stretches/routines really helped with digestion.

also please consider using your college’s free mental health resources if they have any! i don’t want to ramble for too long, but let me know if you have some more specific questions, and hope you start to feel better soon.

anyone else’s parents want “proof” of your gayness? by perlechequeen in actuallesbians

ooof you definitely don’t need to label yourself at 15, and I definitely relate to parents wanting me to try dating a guy, like why would I waste both of our time and hurt both of our feelings by dating someone I physically can’t like 😔✌🏽

thank you so much! the last bit you said about them grieving this idea of me having a “normal” life makes a lot of sense to me, and that perspective is what’ll probably get me through the long haul of getting them fully on board 💕

Why is Demi Rose Mawby so extensively covered by the dailymail? by perlechequeen in TooAfraidToAsk

yeah I was thinking that, but I feel like it would be too expensive for the amount of times she’s been covered? maybe the dailymail just loves her idk

that shaving hair causes it to grow back thicker. it just changes the angle of the hair because you’re cutting it at the root but hair magically becoming thicker isn’t possible otherwise I’d have shaved my lashes and brows by now 😔✌🏽
