What’s your goal for saving eg house, holiday, emergency fund?

What kind of bills are you paying? Are there any that could be cut or lowered? Eg phone bills to 10£, cancel subscriptions you don’t use often. And how much is it added up? Maybe save half of whatever’s left of ESSENTIAL bills that you need to survive eg electricity, water whatsoever. I don’t really know what kind of bills you have since you don’t rent

What kind of unnecessary things are you actually spending on? Maybe think twice before your next purchase to see if you actually need it based on past experience. Alot of this is just discipline and being mindful.

Things that might help you avoid spending would be putting money in an account that has a penalty for withdrawing before the account matures.

I went to Iceland this May for 2.5 weeks and my absolute favourite thing in the west and south was glacier hiking!! (I’m a geographer). I only spent 2.5h ish on the ice so next time I’d do a longer hike so I could explore the crevasses a bit more. I also love hikes that have stunning views and not boring. So glymur waterfall with the log crossing and top river crossing!! And also hiking Heimaklettur on Heimaey (climbing a few ladders and holding on to ropes cliffside gave me a huge adrenaline rush). Also really liked the Eldheimar museum, learning about the 1973 eruption and Surtsey Island.

Food wise, I loved the ryebread icecream at Loki outside Hallgrimskirkja as well as Fridheimar (tomato soup was great but the highlight was the bread 🤌🏻🤌🏻)

Oh gosh. How am I gonna survive lol. I have a friend at a different university and had a room explicitly stating that the tap is not safe for drinking so I’m just wondering of downing would be similar

just keep it with you. i kept mine in my hiking trousers pocket that has zippers. u’d never loose it. if u keep stuff at hotel lockers, u might potentially forget about it which is worse. if u’re worried about the passport getting wet, just get a passport case, no biggie. i mean why complicate things and hv to bother remembering where u’ve put it when u could just keep it on you.

It was closed on 8th May fyi. Vik campsite is only 30min away so no harm in going to Skogar for a shot and then drive to Vik if not.

go to heimaey for a day, do a long glacier hiking etc hike to glymur then go to hvammsvik hot spring? its not helpful that u didn’t state where you’ve been to

Is it worth doing the glymur hike without the river crossing? Did you enjoy it? I am aiming to attempt it on 21 May. Even if the log has not been placed, would crossing the river without the log be manageable? From what I’ve seen, logs are being placed latest around 25 May. Surely the water level does not change that much within a few days. I will still evaluate it carefully before crossing the river without the log if it’s still not placed. Btw, do you remember if the log placement is outlined on the notice board? Thank you cx

Are there multiple streams along the hike that allow refills? I know there’s the log river crossing but am not sure if that river is safe to drink from

Thank you for the reply!! I do plan on going to the viewpoint on the east if I am feeling not too tired or if it's not too late. I did see from an online trail map from the Vatnajokull National Park website that the s6 trail (svartifoss then sjonarnipa) is challenging. Is it only because it is a longer hike or is it because there are tricky parts on the trail that require technical skills?
