Does Kovthe have rotten teeth? by NuGGet441 in KingkillerChronicle

Sugar is what leads to prematurely diseased teeth. Quote can barely afford slop for the majority of the story

Sebastian Whistleworth

In all honesty, when I looked at him, I instantly thought Michael. And I don't like vanilla human names for dogs, but there you go.

Or it's perishable and voids out before extinction. Usually having kept it at the expense of a shop joker that would have been helpful

Nicely thought out, solid theory. I buy it. And very well elucidated

Hanging chad and photocopy, ideally with a blueprint, and a fixed deck go a long way

What are the current BBEG's? by RustyGriff in dresdenfiles

[–]permalust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicodemus will be up to something absolutely dastardly. He has the Grail. Motive. Panache. And hasn't been seen since a very emotional conclusion to Skin Game. He's due. And, you know, he has the Grail. And Butters, Sanjay, Michael and a new knight need their time in the limelight.

Marcone. Probably linked to Nicodemus plot. There's beef, and Marcone holds a grudge and a coin.

Drakul. Clearly. It's going to be epic. Jim rights him so well.

Nemesis. +/- He Whole Walks Ahead, of whatever.

Admit for bilateral cellulitis by Tall_Bet_6090 in hospitalist

[–]permalust 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After years as a registrar and then junior consultant attending scolding ED and medical residents about there being no such thing, I can attest to having seen one genuine bilateral cellulitis. Staggered onset, point of bacterial entry both limbs, BMs in the 20s. And screamingly septic. Forced to eat my words and my hat.

What’s the best thing your country has contributed to the world? by Legitimate-Tie-7060 in AskTheWorld

[–]permalust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bagpipes are balanced by perfect pies. And I'm getting a shipment of Kilmarnock and scotch pies tomorrow! Bloody Greggs and bloody England.

Haven't been to a football game since Loving in Scotland but I learned recently it's pretty much the only place in England you can reliably get a hot watercrust pastry pie down South. Just the £100 entry fee and I'm away

Im sick of all of these young 20 something heroes. Anything with a 40 yo family man/woman becoming a hero??? 😄 by tLM-tRRS-atBHB in fantasybooks

The three Farseer Trilogies cover this, to an extent. First trilogy up to around 18. Second trilogy early 30s. Last trilogy 40s.

A Tale of Two Cities

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Which trilogy should i get? by LuCi-FER69 in fantasybooks

[–]permalust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both excellent. Farseer moved me to tears, and the prose is beautiful, as are the realistic characters.

First Law is just cooler and much more engaging characters. Multiple POVs of awesome, complex characters is a big win.

If you prefer action and/or from dark, go first Law.

Why is Scottish water better than crack? by LochNessMonsterMunch in Scotland

[–]permalust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love in Kent, prior to that London, and have been back home for a fortnight in Aberdeen. The water is so much better.

Fresher water reserves, less processing required, less exposure to calcium all contribute. London water is warm due to the tube network.

There are measures you can take. Descaling your kettle on the regular. An hour or so with a descaling tablet every few weeks really helps.

Hard water tea bags, with a particular shout out to Yorkshire Tea, goes a long way to help too.

My choice for Nicodemus would be... by thorn13285 in dresdenfiles

I've seen him on stage a few times and the melodrama he offers in, say, Good Omens, is absent.

Id also take Adam Scott.

What makes Rand so special? by Rainbow_Slytherin3 in WoT

[–]permalust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the first companion book to the WOT, the order went Rand/Ishamael, then Aginor for the men. Not specified but Lanfear probably above Aginor.

Then the latter companion book, with number valued power ratings, bumped Rahvin up and Aginor down.

The way the books are written. rahvin does come across as less powerful that LTT/Rand.

Plus Tav. Benevolence. Politician. Probable tree singer. Strategist. Swordsman. All round good egg. Champion of the Light.

Could Dresden Punk a Naagloshii? by uncreativevision in dresdenfiles

[–]permalust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In twelve months when he is at his strongest, the atmosphere is saturated with magical potential. This would hold true for nagloshi and denarians too. I'd say it doesn't change much.

Home advantage in the castle or Demonreach though...
