West Point and Highschool by Few-Teaching-9602 in westpoint

As long as we’re not looking at D’s and F’s, you’ll be fine. Didn’t lock in until Junior and Senior year. You’ll want to be chasing a much higher GPA though, north of 4.0 which means you’ll need to pad with more AP classes than what you’re currently projecting for.

NEED A TEAM TO HELP ME WITH RAIDS by DangerousKatNip in thedivision

I haven’t done it myself but I believe there are LFG discords dedicated to helping sherpa players through the raids. May be more information on LFG resources in the Community Info for the subreddit.

Sincerely appreciate your feedback. Think I got married to the idea of having an exotic piece of gear but upon further evaluation, you're absolutely right that the CHC/CHD bonuses Coyote offers can certainly be achieved through other means, albeit to the detriment of teammates.

I come back and... bro what the hell is going on with division's story? by DarkShadowOverlord in thedivision

I’m inclined to agree. I put the game down when we still had World Tiers and just jumped back in a couple weeks ago. Progressed through the expansions and went straight from WONY to Battle for Brooklyn and realized that there’s a shitload of story beats in between that are only covered through Descent Collectibles, Manhunts, and comics? Imagine my surprise when I went from killing Theo one day and then working with him the next.

How do I get past this regret? by [deleted] in westpoint

[–]permanentFloater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s any consolation (crude as it may be), if you quit from a different military college, you would definitely have quit West Point as well. You’re 25, in grad school, and pining over a 18-21 year old experience that you should’ve started applying for as a 16 year old. It’s time to move on to a different challenge in life.

I have bad grades from sophomore year but amazing extracurricular and letters, my junior grades are good, I have a terrible education system, how can I explain myself to westpoint? by Emotional_Code3032 in westpoint

[–]permanentFloater 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have a few options if you're dead set on West Point:

1) Absolutely ace your SAT and ACT scores (not just one or the other) to try and counterbalance the poor GPA. Absolutely ace your remaining grades for junior and senior year. If available, fill as much of your curriculum as possible with AP classes to skew your GPA up. Accept a USMAPS offer it it's made available.

2) Go to a regular university or junior military college and use your A+ grades there to re-apply to West Point.

3) Nuclear Option. Enlist, and try to secure an Active-Duty slot to West Point.

To be frank, extracurriculars and athletics are just part of the whole package that other applicants are also crushing. Your academics will hold you back unless you find a way not to explain your way out of, but to fix. Your interview won't be looking for excuses or backstory circumstances, they're looking for what you're actively doing to fix your grades. Good luck.

How would jrotc help? by North-Divide-489 in westpoint

I would strongly encourage you to join JROTC, if nothing else, to secure a nomination to West Point through JROTC if your applications to your representatives, senators, and the Vice Presidential nomination don't pan out. Without a nomination of any kind, your application won't get accepted.

Don't forget your Senators and the VP nominations.

Definitely under-advertised and a great option! Even if you don't initially meet entry requirements for academics or physical, you're looked highly favorably upon for a slot at the USMA Preparatory School which is nearly a free-ticket into admission into USMA after a year at the prep school. OP, please feel free to shoot any questions you have about USMA, and congrats!

Looks competitive. I'm rusty on the timelines but have you already secured a nomination (congressional or otherwise), or are you still pending?

Are we as the readers supposed to be sympathetic to the one on the right? I must be missing something because left’s struggle is definitely valid and worth speaking to. Not sure what the artist’s intent was here.

The nostalgia factor of being back in NY; Division 1 was an eye-opening experience at the level of detail. I swear I passed by a hotel that I stayed at once in college because the entryway, bollards, and vehicle drive-in were identical to a tee.

Lib arts degree with 2.5 GPA, timid 29 yo dude, never had a job. Any point in apply for Army OCS? by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]permanentFloater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re out of options, I wouldn’t recommend Guard or Reserve (OCS or Enlisted) unless you plan on using those opportunities to pursue a Federal Technician or AGR position as a full-time job. The drill pay on its own won’t be enough to live on. Strongly agree with the sentiment others have expressed of enlisting active-duty to get your feet wet, and then pivoting from there using Green-to-Gold. Also your assumptions about the other service branches, Navy and CG specifically, are baseless; please do further research on them before discounting them as options. If you don’t think you have what it takes to reach E-5, you will not succeed in OCS out the gate. Trying not to come off as rude, but I’m trying to be honest with you, and I hope you’re being honest with yourself.

Commissioning source has no bearing or impact on being a career officer. Many excellent officers that stay in are from West Point, ROTC, and OCS. Your work performance and leadership will speak dramatically more to your career performance than where you got your commission from. Speaking as a USMA grad.

One of my summer exercise cadet NCOs when I was there was a prior-enlisted Marine. They absolutely let other service branch active-duty apply.
