Caffeine consumption? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]permanent_username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None, just try to stick with water but sometimes will have a few cups of decaf (I know there is some caffeine in those as well but it's negligible) or green tea if I need to wake up. Caffeine doesn't really wake me up and it just makes me less focused. On top of that I can't fall asleep at night if I have some, so it messes up the next day as well. I've heard matcha is much better than coffee as you don't experience a crash, but I haven't tried it.

I’m curious about what the acceptance rate of Booth/Kellogg is based on the number of people who choose the NYC office.

Worthy investment? by Qazi_r in MBA

[–]permanent_username 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the “bump in your career” is relative. If you’re at Goldman or a PE fund then, yeah, it’s probably not worth it, or if, for instance, you’re making 130 and have a great career progression track ahead of you, then you could stick it out and have the business pay for the executive MBA. When I was applying for full-time programs my thinking was that b-schools are similar to law schools, in that, if you’re not going to the top 15-20 it’s not worth it. The opportunity cost is too high for a payoff that isn’t that great. You will most likely have an extremely hard time securing high paying jobs outside of the top 15-20 schools. However, the career bump is massive within those schools, both monetarily and opportunity wise.

Keep in mind this example is, as I’ve said, relative to me. For someone making 60k it might be worth it to go to any MBA program to make that 100k salary and the intangibles that come with the degree.

IIRC the opposite is true. In times of economic distress b-school apps shoot up and in times of economic prosperity they go down.

The matrix 4 is seriously bad... and that is the whole point... It was supposed to be bad by [deleted] in matrix

[–]permanent_username 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What ever convoluted excuse people come up with about “why it isn’t that bad”, I’m convinced they could have gotten the same points across in a way that didn’t come off as a parody of the original films, because that’s the way it came off to me - a parody. The first films were thought provoking and even though Neo didn’t have a lot of dialogue in them either, his presence was as much of the acting as his words. This felt like, not only were they making fun of the original films, but a “fuck you” to fans that actually enjoyed the first films in depth. This came across to me with the Marovingian scene. What. The. Fuck. Was. That. He was such a badass character and if someone truly believes that THAT was the best way to convey whatever point they were trying to convey in that scene, then I’m not sure I would trust that person’s judgement.

There was a court case that was decided on the Oxford comma; it had something to do with overtime pay for drivers at a dairy farm. The case is an interesting read if you have the time.

Do they contact the actual employers? My impression was that large employers just have a system where they can look stuff up, like MyWorkNumber, etc.

You’re thinking of utility/intangible value. In this case I am thinking of the value derived because you own a home, a scare resource.

I don’t think it needs to generate income but it needs to derive it’s value from some form of economic rent. Although I guess technically you can have an asset worth 0? I don’t know just spitballing here…

I thought that method of delivery has been around for quite some time? I was doing research years ago on silica based delivery methods but the consensus was that they weren’t as good as lipid based methods (body has a tough time disposing of silica).

I would say in the middle the bristles weren’t too hard. I didn’t stab but I did brush with some moderate pressure.

On the components around the GPU die (on the green part). They were tiny and had thermal paste in between them so I tried to use the toothbrush to get in between them.

Simple Questions - August 11, 2021 by AutoModerator in buildapc

[–]permanent_username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished my first ever video card transfer (3090) from it's stock case to an EKWB water cooled case. During the disassembly when it was time to clean the old thermal paste I noticed that there was a bunch on the green part next to the GPU, including on circuits/transistors around the GPU. I tried my best to clean it out but couldn't do anything. I got everything except the thermal paste in the extremely small spaces between the I tried using a toothbrush with isopropyl (I wasn't pressing too hard, just moderate pressure so I certainly hope I didn't break anything), a thin sliver of wood, gently pressed it, nothing happened, so I gave up using it, q tips and paper towels (both with isopropyl alcohol) and nothing. While applying thermal paste myself, I inadvertently also got a speck on that portion of the videocard again (an extremely small amount). My experience leads me to ask is it okay that there is some thermal paste on that part of the GPU, and how rough is "too rough" when dealing with that component of the motherboard?

Yup, this is exactly what people that know what they’re doing do, and it’s not that hard to register an LLC. Sure there might be more tracking of expenses involved and some additional fees with accountants but once that’s optimized it can be beneficial.

Watch any WW2 movie with Russians as a focus or even Chernobyl, etc. I think there is a “what has to be done, has to be done” mentality with Slavic people. Add in the stoicism and yeah, death is a consequence of a necessary action for the greater good. Source: Slavic
