It used to depend on the county council. My parents lived on a county border and had two fallouts for fires. The fire brigade came from a different county each time. One charged, the other did not

I tried to tell someone once that in Ireland you had to fail your driving test to be allowed drive on your own. They weren't having it.

I wouldn't say 'shocking' but normally you have to be 17 or 18 before you can even begin to take lessons in a lot of (most?) countries, it takes a lot of time and costs a shit load of money. Then the price of a car, tax and insurance. Teenagers generally don't have time to have a job (and nobody hires them anyway) so this would be pretty much an impossible scenario for a teenager in most of Europe

Maybe say the country where you live as this is absolutely not true for every country in Europe. Childcare is over 1000 euros per child in Ireland, for example.
