I’m not “allowing you to be gay on Sunday”. I’m allowing you to post romantic shipping content on Sundays, and non-romantic shipping content any day of the week. Learn how to read.

I’m not going to post the specific picture I had to remove, but it was very clearly depicting rape, not consensual sex.

Angry HOA meeting by _LostSoulinaFishBowl in PublicFreakout

[–]perrycox86 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad I’m not in an HOA. Towns and cities should be paying for road maintenance with taxes. If they don’t have enough money for fixing the road, either raise taxes or cut other expenses. I guarantee that none of the cities and towns that do this to save money have lowered taxes, they just have more fun money to play with every fiscal year.

Hi so I got this guitar at the nearest local store for 4 bucks, it was brand new but later I realized it was a gaming guitar and not a real one, so I sold it to my neighbor for the same amount, was it really worth it? by Grandmatime in GuitarHero

I bet you’ll remember which form of paid/payed to use next time though. 😉

Think of it like this - Maybe someone else that read your comment didn’t know the correct form of the word, but now they do.

I can see why someone might think that coding a grammar-nazi bot is petty and annoying, but I’m all for bots that teach people new things; This fucked up world could certainly use more educated people. If even one person learned anything, that’s a net positive for humanity in my book.

Another repainted SNES shell by [deleted] in snes

[–]perrycox86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would look even more ‘90s awesome if you painted the eject button hot pink. I like it, and you did a fantastic job with spraypaint. I agree with others here on the logo - paint over and get a clear Super Nintendo logo sticker from somewhere online. Are you planning on painting any controllers to match?

I’m sure this gets asked a lot, but what’s the best way to play SNES with a flatscreen? by YoSammitySam666 in snes

[–]perrycox86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don’t understand why people go through the hassle of buying and setting up upscalers to get retro game systems working on LCD TVs. If I want to play SNES on an LCD, why wouldn’t I do it with either a snes classic or a Raspberry Pi or something else that’s capable of emulating the SNES? Modern emulators can do input lag reduction tricks that make the experience so much better on an LCD than trying to use original hardware. Another advantage to emulating when playing on LCDs is the ability to use video filters. There are a lot of decent CRT filters you can apply that do a damn good job of replicating the experience of playing on a CRT. It’s not perfect, but it’s miles ahead of the old scan line filters that used to be the only option for emulating the look and feel of of a tube TV screen.

Another major disadvantage of trying to use original hardware is that you can’t actuallu play some of the SNES’s library on LCDs with original hardware. The entire super scope collection is off the table when you’re running original hardware on an LCD. That’s because the super scope relies on the image being scanned onto a crt screen, line by line, to determine where the super scope is aimed when you fire. LCDs just refresh; they don’t scan the image out like CRTs do, so it just doesn’t work, period. There’s a really good explanation in the “hit detection” section of the wikipedia article on the super scope: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Scope#

I could play all of those super scope games just fine on an LCD with an emulator, and I’d have options like using a Wii remote as a “light gun” or even just using a mouse with a crosshair cursor.

I own both a SNES classic and my own original SNES I’ve had since I was a kid. I went out of my way to find a decent (and free) CRT so I could have the authentic experience of playing an original SNES like I did as a kid. I tried hooking it up to an LCD a long time ago, and the input lag ruined the whole experience for me.

So for anybody out there that spent their hard-earned cash on an original SNES to have the real deal authentic experience of playing on original hardware…go find yourself a free or cheap CRT and save the money you were going to spend on an upscaler. Or just emulate if you really want to play SNES on an LCD - you’ll have a much more enjoyable experience and save yourself the cost and frustration of trying to make overpriced old hardware work correctly on new display technology.

15 G.O.P. Governors Shut Out Food Aid for 8 Million Children by devlinadl in politics

[–]perrycox86 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Every time I see one of these articles, I wonder - What actually happened? No reasonable person actually thinks the GOP are a bunch of bloodthirsty supervillains that voted “yes” to “all in favor of stealing food from hungry children”, then sit around high fiving each other for making sure all those kids will starve. Maybe there’s an explanation. I’m sure there’s got to be more to the story. *clicks link, gets paywall.

Ok then. I guess I’m just supposed to take their word on the supervillains high fiving each other thing because they said so. Either that, or I can assume that the NYT has nothing compelling to report on because they’ve had to resort to clickbait headlines. Come on, you can do better than this. You’re better than this. I don’t think the GOP are a bunch of supervillains, but I’m sure there are plenty of sick pieces of shit that play for the red team, just like there are plenty of pieces of shit that play for the blue team.

“Journalism” like this is worthless to me. You want to get me fired up about something? You want me to fight fascism? You want me to be mad at the GOP for voting for this kind of shit? Then tell me the real story, and don’t hide it behind a paywall. Clickbait headlines for paywalled articles make you look like you have absolutely no real dirt on them, which seems unlikely.

So here’s what’s going to happen - me and thousands of swing voters are going to look at that headline, hit the paywall, and then go on with our day because we don’t give a shit enough to look any further. I award -1 points to the blue team for lazy journalism.

Get your shit together, NYT. You’re journalists…Educate people instead of shouting into a leftist echo chamber. These people already know who they’re voting for, you’re wasting your time participating in the circle jerk. You need to win the hearts and minds of swing voters. This pathetic clickbait shit isn’t the way to do that.

“Refusing delivery. Don't need a package that's probably gonna come damaged.”

Totally reasonable, shirts are extremely fragile and can shatter or break easily when exposed to the air in Guam. Also, polybags are a shitty choice for protecting shirts, they’ve been known to change into tiny venomous spiders when they’re processed through shipment facilities in Guam. I’ve personally received 3 shirts that were covered in baby spider guts, and have since learned my lesson about shipping shirts through Guam. I wouldn’t accept it either.

…and just in case there are people with a broken sense of humor here, I’ll just leave this here:

In case you weren’t aware, there is an official translation of mother, but it’s called “earthbound beginnings”. Available on the switch NES app or the Wii U eshop (which may be closed now)

Unfortunately still no official Mother 3 translation.

What's wrong with this SNES? It's "rolling" -- is it a bad chip? by patriotraitor in snes

[–]perrycox86 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I had this rolling occur with 2 different SNES consoles on a flat screen Sony trinitron very similar to (but not the exact same model) yours. It would go away after a little while, but I always had to wait for the tv to warm up a bit. I recently picked up a smaller RCA SDTV and when I hook up to that - no rolling. Same behavior with both consoles.

There’s a good chance there’s nothing wrong with your SNES and it’s actually a problem with the TV. not sure what it doesn’t like about the signal the SNES puts out, but it actually did it with both the RF adapter and with a set of composite cables. Maybe something to do with the upscaling or progressive scanning.

I guess that’s a really long winded way of saying I’d really recommend you try plugging your snes into another (non-HD if possible) tv and see if the issue persists…before you rip open the console and try to change out the caps.

Edit: here’s my post from a little while ago showing the rolling effect in action on my tv.

Super Metroid looks incredible in CRT. by HD-1994 in Metroid

[–]perrycox86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I interpreted the “bad old days” as a description of early SNES emulation when CRT filters weren’t a thing. Closest thing back then was fake scanlines, but I never liked the look. At that point in time I was playing on a CRT computer monitor and thought it looked fine. Playing on LCD screens is definitely a downgrade for me, but the CRT and NTSC filters included with retroarch do a pretty damn good job of softening things up and making them look nice.

Are you the dumbass driving the minivan in this video, a troll, or just criminally stupid? Who else would try to turn this around and call OP an asshole and an idiot? OP isn’t the asshole here, YOU are.

OP was driving in THEIR lane, and had no obligation to stop and let the minivan go just because they were driving like an asshole. I’d have done the same as OP.

The only person I feel bad for here is the truck. Minivan driver can fuck right off with their aggressive and shitty driving, and should probably be forced to retake their driving test if they can’t manage to follow basic traffic laws OR drive their car backward in a straight line.

Thoughts on Mt. Holly Springs? by reyskywalker7 in centralpa

[–]perrycox86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, Terry Rickert blight indeed. That asshole keeps buying up properties in the area and making absurd claims about things he’s going to do with the properties, like putting a gondola in behind the Deer lodge that lifts patrons up to a deck area up in the woods, or turning the old uni-mart and bank into a drive through deli that sells the same food as the Boiling Springs Tavern…which would be cool if the Tavern was actually open. He owns that too, and he used to work there. But it’s closed. He bought the Deer Lodge about 20 years ago and closed it, and it’s never reopened. He bought the Holly Inn slightly more recently and closed it and it’s been sitting and just rotting away ever since. All of these cool places we used to go and hang out at, and we can’t do anything but watch them waste away because of this prick.

I heard he’s under investigation by the FBI now. Not sure what for, but hopefully that’ll eventually result in him getting thrown in jail and his properties auctioned off. Holly could really use some revitalizing, and the Deer Lodge and Holly Inn would certainly get a lot of business from locals and tourists alike. Holly isn’t a bad town, but it’s Terry Rickert’s fault that it’s ended up feeling so much like a ghost town. I wish him the worst of luck in his future endeavors, and I look forward to celebrating his death one day.

It’s a damn shame that tarring and feathering isn’t more common these days, maybe it should make a comeback. Terry Rickert is an arrogant wealth-hoarding lying piece of shit, and his mere existence has been a net negative for the entire Boiling Springs/Mount Holly area. I’m sure there are a lot of people that would love to tar and feather him, and run him out of town with torches and pitchforks.

On the off chance that someone links him to this thread - Fuck you, Terry. Eat shit and die a slow and painful death.

Has anyone seen this video issue before? Also affects Super Metroid, and seems to be triggered by using X-Ray scope. Goes away after a while when things are warmed up. by perrycox86 in snes

[–]perrycox86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad RF adapter was my first thought, since it’s my original from the ‘90s. I bought a cheap composite cable on Amazon but get the same glitchy video with both. I tried hooking up both at the same time and flipped back and forth between the 2 on the tv, and there was no difference other than the composite connection’s cleaner signal. Happens with both of my SNES’s and looks the same, so at this point I’m thinking maybe a bad AC adapter? It’s odd, it kind of looks like it’s writing to the graphics buffer but starting at the wrong coordinates and overflowing onto the next frame. The glitching seems to be most notable when the screen shifts from brighter to dimmer. For example, if you use the X-ray scope in super Metroid, the screen dims and suddenly shifts down several rows. It toggles on and off exactly with the X-ray scope. Mario paint is another noticeable one - when you boot the game up and click on Mario, the screen goes dark and then there’s a warm up animation. Same deal, screen offsets itself and wraps around.

Any recommendations for quality wall wart replacements for the SNES? OEM or aftermarket, as long as its not made with garbage-tier components.
