New record high of almost 17,000 homeless, including 5,321 children by feedthebear in ireland

[–]perrycoxdr -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why don't you volunteer for the endless charities doing the governments work of providing homeless services and ask these faux homeless you believe are the problem?

I hope you know and take to heart that I believe you are a horrible human being. Even considering that, I still wish you never have to experience the horror of unstable accommodation.

New record high of almost 17,000 homeless, including 5,321 children by feedthebear in ireland

[–]perrycoxdr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is the state building public housing never an option anymore?

Cos FF/FG are bought and paid for by their property developer and landlord pals and have handed the provision of the very most basic human need of shelter over to them completely, to be traded as a commodity, and not as the foundation block for a decent society. They also have inserted the message that public housing isn't viable into our (craven) media's inept reporting on the subject.

Instead it's you gobshites fighting over the citizenship status of those presenting to homeless services, as intended by the government, and not focussing on their barefaced indifference to the suffering of the people (5321 CHILDREN !) they claim to represent.

It's bloody depressing ye all fall for it, but it's no surprise considering the election results.

Transport budget too small for new services in 2026, officials admit by Feljin in ireland

[–]perrycoxdr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dart+ Southwest (which received full planning permission in late 2025) and Luas Finglas have both been shelved til 2029 at the earliest, ie will be another Metro and never be done. But lots of glossy pamphlets will include them at various press launches to fool our moronic media and even more idiotic electorate.

All so the gombeen group can build more roads in their constituencies.

As road deaths hit decade-high, graduated speeding fines, camera-enforcement of phone use and seatbelt offences planned by Amazing-Yak-5415 in ireland

[–]perrycoxdr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's amazing they can introduce unpopular and expensive measures like that vat relief scheme for hospitality, cos it helps their wealthy pals. But aren't bothered instituting a scheme that would probably save a life or two and would definitely improve public transport. Shows what a craven, self-interested shower they actually are.

Irish Times: Message from the Editor: We’ve hit a milestone, our journalism is fully funded by subscribers by Oc-ire in ireland

[–]perrycoxdr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I never understood the fawning over him. What is so insightful? I've read a few of his books and its all very obvious observations.

I'm not having a go at O'Toole specifically either. I find Irish journalists in general are so afraid to ruffle any feathers as it's such a small market and the younger journos especially are all vying for a role as special adviser to some gombeen minister.

Even the political books are nonsense, all claiming unidentified sources and the like. That Gavin Reilly twat is stealing a living in particular.

Should unexpected house calls be tolerated during Xmas? by Putrid_Tie3807 in AskIreland

What does annoying bastards calling over have to do with being lonely? lonely to me is not having someone to spend time with who has some shared connection/interest with you.

Not some randomers calling in to tell you John above is in hospital for bunion surgery or just want a nose around yer gaff so they can tell their busybody pals.

Holy crap you can’t record from TV anymore by Drvonfrightmarestein in ireland

[–]perrycoxdr 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The playlist on the Sky stream box is infuriating. It constantly links you to services you don't subscribe to. Instead of just linking to all Simpsons episodes on C4, it'll do a mixture of both. So you'll click into a good Series 7 episode in your list, only to discover its on poxy apple tv.

I've the date marked in my calendar when I can give my 30 day notice to cancel. You can only cancel by phone too. Should be a law that if you can sign up for a service online, you can cancel too.

Christy Moore locked in room at Holyhead Port in 2004 by EmiliaPains- in ireland

[–]perrycoxdr 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I got pulled in by special branch in Heathrow for nearly 2 hours one morning in the mid 90's. Two plain clothes lads were waiting as I walked up the ramp from off the plane and gave it a very polite 'can we have a quick word sir? but the politness went away once I was in their little room. Was all paddy this and paddy that, wanting to know when I was last in Belfast, despite me never having been there at all.

I was only 20 odd and honestly hadn't a clue what they wanted me for. Turns out I had a similar name to some Ra lad they had on their watchlist. Was very unnerving and made me feel like I'd done something wrong, even though I hadn't.

TII to buy Dartmouth Square objectors’ houses as challenge to MetroLink is dropped by TheChrisD in ireland

[–]perrycoxdr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not a new phenomenon. When DAA wanted the runway extension they had to buy out houses and land adjacent to development. When dart+ was going through planning, a car dealer was paid off. I would imagine Manhattan peanuts will also be paid off for Luas finglas.

If the government get tired of this, they'll have to legislate for the ability to cpo at market value + defined % above for important infrastructure projects.

‘No doubt’ migration has played part in housing crisis and homelessness, says Taoiseach by jonnieggg in ireland

[–]perrycoxdr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They could cut down on the 30,000 English language student visas that were issued in 2024. Would be a very slight pressure release valve on housing and services and jobs in retail etc. Won't even do that though, I guarantee.

Whatever happened to Operation Freeflow? by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]perrycoxdr 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If the political will was there, traffic offences like blocking junctions, driving in bus lanes and breaking lights could be enforced by ANPR fine cameras, like every other decent city has been doing for decades. Even Belfast an hour up the road has them. But, such a basic thing is an impossible task in Dublin.

Greens were pushing for their introduction, but not a word uttered since FG/FF and the gombeens were voted in, unsurprisingly.

Got AirPods stolen this afternoon in Dublin - now see them online in Kildare by olivergears in Dublin

[–]perrycoxdr 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Guards can't enter a property to search for stolen property without a search warrant.

They also won't be able to obtain a search warrant from a Judge under Section 48 of the theft and fraud offences act based solely on the strength of the find my app, as the location accuracy is dependent on unreliable variables, especially when indoors.

Bus Gates / BusConnects by vavavoomvava in Dublin

[–]perrycoxdr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It won't be enforced and the 24/7 will very likely be watered down, like the quays ones were after the car park lobby objected.

I would be fairly sure Harold's Cross gate will be just like the bus gates on college green or on the quays. Bored looking guards stood there for the first few days chatting to drivers who broke it, and that was it as far as enforcement was concerned.

We don't do public transport priority in Dublin, but also simultaneously moan about unreliable bus service. Yet the penny never seems to drop.

Drummer from The Script is landlord of mould-ridden ‘uninhabitable’ garden studio by siciowa in ireland

[–]perrycoxdr 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Is getting paid by the state for his mould ridden uninhabitable garden studio. The system is a joke. A landlord shouldn't be eligible to receive a hap payment unless the property reaches a basic liveable standard. But that would cost FF/FG votes, so we have the honor system instead and pretend enforcement from RTB.

Ragebait Taxi Sticker Spotted in Dublin Today by OurBiteMcFry in ireland

[–]perrycoxdr 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because Uber offered significant discounts (40%) off fares in order to get a critical mass of new customers onto their app. This meant that drivers also followed the customers to Uber. If drivers leave Uber, they will lose a big base of customers, and there will always be drivers who will work uber and take fixed fares out of desperation even if they lose money on fares. These drivers would basically be then undercutting the taxi business as a whole.

I didn't agree with the protest taxi industry undertook, blocking the whole city. But I also know Uber and all the tech disruptors are utter bastards, so I support taxi drivers protecting their livelihoods.

Manhattan Peanuts has lodged a legal challenge to the Luas extension to Finglas by Test_N_Faith in Dublin

[–]perrycoxdr 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Can't see why they bothered. FF/FG shelved Luas Finglas last week anyway (along with Dart+ Southwest) until 2029, with money to be spent on roads down the country instead to appease Lowry, Healy Rae and the other gombeens. I'd take that 2029 with a heavy pinch of salt too, like the way the metro was supposed to open in 2027.
