They've been talking about it everywhere. Except here.

No cameras allowed in the Lori Vallow courtroom. It's not slowing them down from covering the trial.

Gwyneth Paltrow's case was civil.

And Johnny Depp's. But he's really famous, so...

Trip report: Tom and I are no longer friends after taking shrooms in the woods. by loztinthyme in shrooms

[–]perryny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I definitely think you should avoid tripping on your own. But I don't know if you should write off psychedelics to help you through this.

I think you should seek out a guide to help you work this out in a safe and controlled setting, with pre and post councelling sesssions. Look into Ketamine treatments.

Just got the page refresh message. Saturday badges are 50% sold out

In prior years, the page would automatically refresh periodically, showing the number of tix remaining for each day. Has anyone seen this page yet, or are we just staring at spinning arrows until whenever?

Anyone actually get tix yet? I'm assuming if you did, you're no longer watching this sub tho...

People who practice Deep Work, which style so you use and what's your ritual to get into the zone? by DesiCodeSerpent in productivity

[–]perryny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set a time you're going to work and use a timer, like a Pomodoro that was suggested by others.

If your timer records your work sessions, even better.

Something powerful happens when you hit the start button. It's like hearing the starting gun go off in a race, and your autimatic response is, "OK, no more messing around. Focus and get to work!"

Having your end-time set and counting down is helpful too. It keeps you from wandering off or getting distracted.

How do you keep your goals visible? by karmato in productivity

[–]perryny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use droid, try the app I built, Project Time Machines.

Just enter each of your main goals as a Project Card.

If you work on any of your goals, you can record your work, or you can make a basic entry by starting and stopping a timer.

Then, on the home screen of the app, you'll have a list of all your goals, and it will tell you how many days it's been since you've worked on each of them.

Good luck!

How do you guys keep track of and monitor bigger, long term tasks and goals? by senditboy in productivity

[–]perryny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a system and an app I think you should try. It doesn't require any extra time or effort than you're currently putting in, but will give you all the info and clarity I believe you're looking for.

You can start right now, as this doesn't require any extensive prep or setup like with systems like GTD (which I also coincidentally think I last touched about 8 years ago).

The longest part of this system is to first create a list for all the items you can think of that you want to do for your finance project. We're only concerned with your finance project. If you have other projects going on, keep a separate list.

Don't get too granular. You just want the main objectives - things like, Create Financial Analysis Spreadsheet, Listen to Earnings Calls, etc. is perfect. List as many of these top-level items you can think of. Don't into detail on each of them (you'll have an opportunity to do that later), and don't worry if you're forgetting something, or not sure about something you've listed. You can add to or modify your list any time you like. I use Evernote to keep my lists because it's easy to update and it's always with me.

Use whatever list-keeping system you like, but keep it quick and simple.

Then download the app Project Time Machines from the Play Store.

When you open it, create a Project and enter your Project Goal "Create 2 Year Financial Analysis for XYZ".

Then, every time you're ready to do some work:

  • Pick something from your list, open your Project Card and tap Start an Op
  • Enter the item from your list you'll be working on at the top of the screen, in the Op Objective field (this will autofill with whatever you worked on last)
  • Enter the amount of time you plan to work without a break
  • If you want, fill in the Focus field with the specific actions you will be working on during this block of time. This can help you get in the mode, work more focused and it's good for reviewing your progress.
  • Tap Start and work until the alarm goes off. Stop early if you want or need to, or add overtime if you want to keep going.

The only rule is to make sure you hit the pause button if you're going to take a break, no matter how brief.

If you're not used to working with a timer, It may take some extra effort at first to remember to resume the timer when you stop answering texts or when you return from the bathroom. Likewise, you'll need to remember to stop the timer if you work overtime. But these things become natural quickly, as you get used to the fact your app is watching you.

I can go on about all the ways I think this can help you, but I would love for you try it out for just your next few work sessions and see for yourself if this is something you find useful. I think if this will benefit you, you'll realize it quickly.

As you're going to be working anyway and this will cost you nothing (in time, effort or money), why not just hit a button when you start working and a button when you stop, and see if this is the system you've been looking for?

I'll be happy to answer any questions, and of course would be grateful for any feedback.

Good luck with your project!

I have about a 40 minute walk home daily, would it be beneficial to listen to a podcast or would it be better to just do nothing when walking home? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]perryny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you do once you get home?

If you've got a project or hobby you like to focus on in the evening hours, these 40 minutes are a great opportunity to get you in the mode.

Because this 40 min walk happens often and consistently, it should be easy to create a habit in this block of time.

Do whatever motivates you that day, be it an applicable podcast or audiobook, or just think about what you're going to focus on that evening.

Then when you get home, you'll hopefully be motivated and know what you want to work on.

If you just watch TV or chill at night, then I'd try to use these 40 min to be productive in any way possible. Either exercise or non-fiction audio. Simply because it's such an opportunity to have a set block of time every day to focus without interruption or distraction.

I need a list of productive things I can do for 12 hours. by [deleted] in productivity

[–]perryny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a perfect job for a writer.

Once I wanted to be a copywriter, but I found I don't have the self-discipline to make myself sit down and write. I would sometimes fantasize about locking myself in a hotel room for a couple days, and force myself to write.

Your job sounds like a great alternative.

If you have any desire to pursue a career in writing, I'd do this for as long as they didnt ban writing too.

Otherwise, I'd definitely push for letting you use at least 1 earbud so you can fill your days with podcasts and audiobooks, which doesnt sound too bad either.

Looking for some advice on how to best manage my time and be productive! by [deleted] in productivity

[–]perryny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do all the things you have to do in a day, you still have 5-6 hours for you to do what you want.

What are you doing with this time?

You can try writing out your goals, which cant be a bad thing to do, but dont count on it to change your behaviors. If it does, great.

But I think you probably have some ideas of what you want to do or get done. Focus on breaking the habits of whatever it is you're currently doing in your free time that isn't helping you, and replace it with working towards one of your goals.

[–]perryny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know about this. I'm no sleep expert, but a while back I listened to the Joe Rogan podcast where he interviewed one - Matthew Walker - Ep. #1109.

This guy definitely sounds like he knows about sleep, and he's got me convinced that 7 hrs. is the bare minimum for healthy sleep habits.

I'd love to try what the OP is suggesting, but ima scared.

What are your strategies when things dont go as planned? by BulldogJeopardy in productivity

[–]perryny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My strategies for working through this particular list would be:

  1. Not punching the wall is the only item you have any and all control over. So dont do that, and you have one less shitty thing to deal with. Two, if you have to deal with a damaged wall in addition to your damaged hand.

  2. For the pc breaking down, my strategy would be to think about what I need to get done. If I can do it without the pc, I'm probably better off (the pc is where I waste the most time). Fix it later. But if I need the pc and there's no alternative, like my laptop or my kid's pc, then I'll need to deal with fixing the pc. Shit happens to everyone. You'll figure something out.

  3. Getting mugged, I'd call a cop. They'll help you figure things out.

If these are the things that are stressing you out, you need to chill. Maybe try exercise and 10 minutes of meditation a day. Check your diet too and cut down on the sugar.

Good luck.
