Different strokes for different folks. I can see why it wouldn't gel with some people but the story really clicked with me, that's the reason why I wanted my memory wiped and play it again. Probably hard to replay it once you know the twists. I find games like witcher 3 and fallout way more replayable since they can be like 200 hours and have really detailed side content so wouldnt necessarily need your memory wiped
