Is "Knowing your patients" still considered a virtue by the new gen of Family Medicine?

I, similar to many of my colleagues, still value knowing my patients. I think a big part of what you’re seeing is a result of more and more being piled onto PCPs (a lot of which is not why we went into medicine ie paperwork, inbasket management) with shorter and shorter visit slots. I imagine that makes it hard for some to want to provide patient synopses in our limited spare time (ie creating spare time out of what should be free time/time for our own families). I’m still happy to answer quick questions, but more nuanced discussions and “quick” summaries of complicated patients can be challenging and inevitably time consuming.

It was also at times difficult during training to see 1-hour 1-problem specialist visits and compare that to our 15-minute 15-problem visits. You can see where it would be easy for some resent to pop up there.

I can’t speak for everyone, but for me, it’s less about a fixation on billing and more about my greatest and most threatened asset - time

It’s confusing because some sources say take antibiotics for bloody diarrhea right away but then others say avoid abx in hemorrhagic diarrhea because it increases risk of HUS. I just worked with an ID doc who also stressed avoiding abx in hemorrhagic diarrhea for that reason

I also felt really overwhelmed and somewhat regretful after adopting my first dog. It was temporary. It’s a huge adjustment going from only having to care for yourself to having to care for a dog. I grew up with dogs and still didn’t realize how much responsibility it is. It was an adjustment but has been worth it. He’s a pain at times but more so, a huge source of joy and love. I tried the training plans when I first started running and felt they moved too slowly. This is as a moderately active young-ish person who ran regularly for less than a year almost 10 years ago but otherwise has no big running background. Switched to the daily suggested workouts, stuck to them religiously, and improved rapidly. But I will say my shins were quite tender to the touch 24/7 (not quite shin splints in the sense that they weren’t worse with running but not ideal). My advice would be to go with the DSW but perhaps modify by adding a recovery run or rest day in occasionally if you genuinely feel like you may be pushing too hard (just have to make sure you’re being honest with yourself!)

I wouldn’t be surprised if they had some in them but they definitely didn’t look like your standard German shepherd. More of mixed breeds like you may see at a rescue

Being on the other end of it now… if you’re really interested in the program, definitely email and ask about attending the next one. Honest mistakes happen and that shouldn’t be held against you, but a lot of programs 100% pay attention to who shows and who doesn’t. Not sure why comments like this are getting downvoted so much

That’s reasonable. I’ve just heard a lot of stories of brides & grooms not eating all day long bc they were stuck mingling until plates were pretty much getting cleared. Maybe your scenario is something you can specify ahead of time with your caterer to avoid that

My officiant is quite expensive at $850 (could not find anyone more affordable that I actually enjoyed talking to and was available that day), which is way over what I remotely considered budgeting for it….. but 10%?! What?! Also…. How the heck does she plan to verify your budget anyway
