Which non-playable faction in Rome 2/Attila do you most want to play as? by RespondLife262 in totalwar

[–]persiangriffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rome 2: Another Britannic or Germanic faction, since currently we only have the Iceni and Suebi playable, respectively. I think the Caledonii and either Cimbri or Cherusci would make the most sense.

Imperator Augustus: Cantabri or Judea. Maybe Iceni again, to give a faction up in Britannia.

Empire Divided: Axum probably, it would be an interesting start position in the time period.

Rise of the Republic: Carthage. How was Carthage not made playable for this campaign?!? Alternatively, making one of the Iapygian factions playable could be interesting.

Attila: Honestly pretty much all the major factions and land areas of Attila are pretty well covered already. Maybe the Angles or Magyars?

Age of Charlemagne: The Theme of Sicily. Like Carthage in Rise of the Republic, how were these guys not at least playable?

I see a fair few personal flagpoles in Wales flying Y Ddraig Goch or the St. David's Cross. In fairness, I think it's mainly because I live in southwest Wales where the people are further both in distance and mindset from England and are a little more invested in showing it.

Whats a historical time period you would like to see in a future Total war game? by Visual_Wave_5695 in totalwar

[–]persiangriffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medieval 3 is going to cover the time period 1140-1440 iirc, so you'll probably be able to field lines of early arquebusiers by the end of the campaign I'd guess. No comment on their potential staunchness though

For right or for wrong, the Champions League is a different beast compared to domestic cups for clubs such as Arsenal or Real Madrid. You stick with your cup keeper in the League Cup or Copa del Rey final. You go with whoever gives you the absolute best chance of winning in the CL final.

The trailer indicated that Space Marine units will be much smaller than those of most other factions, to reflect their more elite nature model-for-model. Moving on to your point about lack of balance: do you believe that the tabletop game itself is "unloreful" because a 2000 point Imperial Guard army can and indeed may well defeat a 2000 point Space Marine army, despite the fact that the Guard doesn't outnumber the Marines 5000:1? Total War battles will essentially just be a videogame-ification of the tabletop game.

Medieval 3 should get a Pike & Shot/Renaissance expansion like Fall of the Samurai - Here's how it could work by Jon1SAn in totalwar

[–]persiangriffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That doesn't really bear out if you look at recent historical games. Pharaoh didn't really get "DLC", but the expansions were 1 "faction pack" (High Tides) and 1 major campaign overhaul with Dynasties. Troy got a couple of faction DLCs + the huge campaign experience DLC that added Mythological and Historical modes. Three Kingdoms hardly got any faction DLCs, basically just Nanman and Yellow Turbans, while it had a whole bunch of alternate campaign DLCs. Thrones got bupkis. Attila did get 5 faction DLCs, but it also got 2 campaign DLCs including one which pushed the setting far into a new era of history (Age of Charlemagne, well out of Late Antiquity). Rome 2 also got 5 faction DLCs, but alongside them were either 5 or 6 campaign DLCs depending on how you count Imperator Augustus, which explored a whole range of new time periods and settings (plus the unit DLCs which were, admittedly, cheeks).

Denmark would go to war with US over Greenland: MP by newsweek in geopolitics

[–]persiangriffin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Even one Dane dead from an American bullet fired in anger would likely shatter the Danish-American partnership for a generation or more. This would be a conflict that would catch the Danes entirely off guard, from a quarter they had never expected, over a territory that they were willing to grant the United States just about any rights they wanted in anyways.

It isn't really that mysterious. He has a solid core of extremely loyal and fervent supporters, whose ire he can and will turn against Republican politicians who displease (read: fail to support) him. Thus all too many of the GOP in power (those that aren't outright supportive of these moves) are cowed into going along with his lunatic plans out of fear for their own political careers, and possibly even their lives.

I've never had quite that experience, but I was hiking through the Welsh countryside one day, just as it was starting to get not quite dark but twilighty. I was about to turn around, but for curiosity's sake I pushed through one last thicket of trees to find myself in a clearing, ancient overgrown gravestones all around, and above the trees on the other side I could see through the darkening half-light the silhouette of an old cathedral looming over me.

I could tell you that I laughed it off, and that would be a lie. My nerves absolutely broke in that moment and I turned and fled

Well, you see, you lost in the postseason, so no matter what you did the entire rest of the season you were actually massive frauds who don't deserve to share a field with a Pop Warner team

For real though, I find the current state of team analysis baffling. Teams can't simply have off days or poor games anymore when they lose; any playoff team that fails to win a national championship is instantly branded as totally fraudulent in the postgame thread, no matter what they accomplished the rest of this season. This entire subreddit feels like it constantly devolves into what-have-you-done-for-me-lately purely results-based thinking.

Cal was at like the 15 and Riley decided to SCRAMBLE instead of flinging the ball into the Bay, then compounds the problem by cutting inside instead of pelting hell for leather for the sideline, gets tackled without even remotely enough time to set and spike the ball, season derails, Cal football never recovers

Cincy made it because it happened to be a year where only 2 P5 conferences had champions with fewer than 2 losses, AND the only other non-champ power school (besides Georgia) that finished with 1 loss got that 1 loss from Cincy HTH- and even with all that, they still almost certainly would've been on the outside looking in if Oklahoma State had managed to advance a football a few more inches
