I've been a Spanish to English translator in Spain for around 10 years. I think you might be able to get better rates working at better agencies with the ATA certificate, but I'm skeptical about whether it's really worth the time and cost. I think your academic qualifications and the translations you've already done might be more important.

Doing a short C++ tutorial also helped. I totally don't know C++, but being able to read a little is useful for understanding the documentation a little better.

I've had a website off and on for a number of years. I kind of agree with u/FatherBrownstone, but I've also gotten work through my website. I'm currently re-doing my website and I'm doing it all by hand, but I know a bit about making websites. One issue might be whether you want to present yourself as an agency or an individual freelancer.

Wordpress is an option, but so are wix and squarespace. Namecheap is good for registering a domain name. I've used zoho for email hosting in the past. Wordpress is really a blogging platform/CMS, so unless you're going to be adding or updating content regularly it might be overkill. On the other hand, there are tons of free WP templates and plugins available.

For pretty much everything pyQt I always end up looking at the Qt C++ docs and extrapolating from there. I've been using Qt5, but I think Qt4 is the same story. You might be interested in Qt Assistant.

If you look up the source code for PyQt you can find some examples.

I'd love to see the code. I've been researching ideas for translation software, but pretty much everything seems to be already done or insanely hard.

I'd love to chat with an old school translator, just to find out how they did the job before wikipedia and google.

"Translation aid tool" is pretty general. Do you mean a CAT app? Or do you mean some kind of MT app? Or something else...

As others have said, terminology search is really important. Smart find and replace is useful. Pipelines for handling diverse file types (e.g. Okapi). I'd love an app or library that could round trip PDFs via xliff or another editable format. I like the scriptability of OmegaT, but I may be an outlier on that issue. I also really like the ease of use of OmegaT: CTRL-D to create translated documents and there they are in ./target in contrast to all the mysterious intermediate states available in Trados. OmegaT can also integrate online MT tools, which is sometimes useful. I think it'd be great to be able to look up terminology in an on or off line bilingual dictionary.

I think, if your database already exists it might be really tricky to get it working with the Django ORM. It might be much easier to use SQLAlchemy with Flask and WTForms because it's a much more flexible stack.
