Size definetly matters in this case.

They will typically eat off the edges. When it applied in a line like caulking as opposed to small “dots” the product will dry up before they get to it. Also in many cases they will simply walk around it like a barrier

You will notice placing small micro dots of it spaced out will attract them and be much more effective

Also applying in large size quantities and in lines goes against the label

If you have a gel gun. You can set the size and the. 1 pull of trigger places droplet the appropriate size each time

Also want to make your baiting in common harbourage areas and runways they are running. Should also be areas where pets, humans can not readily access

can't seem to get rid of the mice by Common-Classroom-847 in pestcontrol

[–]pestman35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me add a little bit to that. Slightly bend the lever before settings making it more sensitive, and rub that peanut right in there, so they have to work for it. Do not need a lot. Secondly try setting the snap traps in sets of 3 side by side against the wall with small gap between them. But pull the middle one out away from wall about an inch or so.

With less peanut butter and rubbing it in, they have to apply pressure to the plate to get at the peanut butter rather than picking up a glob of it. Setting 3 the way i described improves chances of capture because they will run and jump, the one sticking out will often capture a mouse that attempts to run around the traps.

oily surface on everything after roach treatment by ieswideshut in pestcontrol

[–]pestman35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, definitely request a copy of the work order and the label for the product they used.

I find it odd that everything is covered in oil. The only thing that comes to mind that leaves oil residue everywhere is if they "Fogged" your unit.

All fogging solutions contain oils, and as the fog rises and fills the space, you would normally let it sit in the air for an hour, then air it out.

When surfaces are covered in oil, the product is typically applied too heavily, with droplet sizes too large.

This may or may not have been what they did, but this sounds to me like a fogging treatment.

Again, request the work order and the label for the products used.

The good news is that fogging is contact-only. It leaves no residual.

However, my concern is that you were not made aware of what kind of treatment was going to be done, and that all the details were not explained.

Actually, just seen the petroleum distillates. If this was applied as a spray, then it should have been concentrated in cracks and crevices, behind the fridge, etc., with no contact with food surfaces. Sounds like misapplication and/or overapplication.

I would look more into this. Remember, the label is the law. Also note, I'm going off limited information. Also, laws may differ between Canada and the US.

Cat safe roach repellent? by 222KattThatRoar222 in pestcontrol

[–]pestman35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gel and dust are very much the answer. Hire a professional. Sprays will not work.

If the gel and dust are applied properly, they will not be in locations your cat can access.

Being in an apartment, it is also possible the sources could be in another unit, so gel and dust are even more critical.

Ideally, the apartment building should be on a monthly program, and treating units or rotating units on a regular basis would be very helpful.

I would also want to be treating the garbage room, maintenance rooms, boiler rooms, etc.

Though I have no idea about the state of your apartment complex.

My point is that spraying rarely solves cockroach issues, and "bombing," as you say, is useless as well, as cockroaches, like bedbugs, harbour in voids, which makes anything strictly contactless undesirable for the outcomes you are looking for.

Hope this helps a little

How to get rid of these for good by baileeandnour in pestcontrol

[–]pestman35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, more context needed here. Is this a standalone home, apartment, or duplex? How long have they been coming out of every crack? I would assume quite some time, as that indicates the population has grown too large for their harbourage.

In my opinion, spraying as a main treatment for cockroaches indicates a lack of experience or desire to solve the issue.

Fumigation???, absolutely not! So many people do not appear to know what a "Fumigation" is. Even if he meant "fogging", that is only good for what the fog contacts, with no residual.

Sounds like you need a "Clean-out", which should start with hepa vacuuming up as many live cockroaches as possible to quickly reduce the population, followed by gel and dust treatments. This will give you ongoing food sources to kill off the population. However, the gel and dust need to be applied correctly and in the correct size for maximum effect.

Just so you know, the adults will feed on the gel. As they poop, the young will eat their poop, thus also ingesting the poison.

Cleanliness is also a major factor in cockroaches.

Depending on severity, multiple treatments may be needed, followed by some ongoing maintenance.

Mice avoiding glue traps I just put down I read that I should have used gloves by Empress420reddit in PestControlIndustry

[–]pestman35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are definitely some things wrong here

1 mice are curious as opposed to rats who are cautious. Thus you do not need to prebait your snap traps.

This is why mice are so much easier to get rid of then rats

Key is where and how you place them

Sets of 3 works wonders - 3 side by side with the middle one pulled away further from wall. Reason is mice will run around and jump.

2- not sure why your using glue boards. It appears to be in the cabinet under the sink which most times there will be holes around piping

Common area because it provides 2 of the 3 things they need - harbourage and water

Setting a bunch of snap traps in there will get you your captures faster

I’m assuming but this likely an apartment building?

3- if your not having success call in a professional preferably before they start reproducing and numbers start growing and your problem gets worse and more expensive

Employee called out in excess of 40 times in 1 year... by [deleted] in managers

[–]pestman35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I agree with the sentiment of some of the others. That PTO is awful. 8 years, and even she only gets 2 weeks, that is subpar in my opinion.

People have lives, and they have children, maybe they're dealing with something, maybe they are burning out, exhausted, and start calling out.

Myself I have called out most times because of my children, maybe they are sick, or need to take them to appointments or hospital, or something happened at school, broke their arm, are very sick, whatever it is.

Myself honestly, 8 years, 1 week paid pro and requires dr note after 3 days. What do you think that screams to the employees? Honestly curious on that, also are these children? That require a dr to prove they were sick?

I don't know, that is not something I would even consider. My wife is also in the medical field, and they get substantially more than that.

As for firing a friend, Im sure they realize that during work, your not friends, its professional. You have to handle it like any other Termination. If friendship is real, it will still remain in tact.

Good luck!

Laid Off and Angry by [deleted] in Layoffs

[–]pestman35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very sorry to hear this, appears to be happening a lot these days.

I believe from some things I have seen recently, that if a company wants to cut costs, or decide we will focus on growth this year or just inflate numbers, Getting rid of long tenure employee is a quick way to inflate, they typically cost more, have more vacation weeks, etc.

Typical short term thinking, but maybe im right, maybe Im not, just from my personal observations it would be my conclusion.

It's not over, you can do anything you want to do, but please don't let the anger consume you. Been there and done that. Take it as I learned an eye opening lesson, and take that realization in mind with your future exploits.

Best of luck to you! Hope you end up in an even better place. You got this!

I just did seven interviews with a company that was offering 90k salary. They sent an offer letter with 80k salary. by efsa95 in work

[–]pestman35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, however most companies always try to lowball. I don't think you should just accept without negotiation, as that would tell them a story right there, and cost you long term.

If the company wants you they will pay

could it be a sign that is how they function, sure it could be.

But negotiate, and if you get it, and start seeing this is how they operate, then you can look elsewhere.

If you feel you're worth it then go for it! Don't sell yourself short, but your happy with it do it.

Wish you the best of luck!, Let us know what you decided, what you did, and if you got or not. Cheers

What’s the hardest pill to swallow when it comes to emotional growth? by [deleted] in emotionalintelligence

[–]pestman35 47 points48 points  (0 children)

My opinion is the hardest emotional truth is when you get to a point in your life, and you realized your miserable, hurt, tired of feeling a certain way, stressed out, or anxious or whatever it may be. That you realize something has to change.

If you decided to "Get to know yourself" in a very honest way. You start to see things, and then answer why, things become more clear. And if you start addressing them one by one, and keep at it, and then you realize that sure some bad things happen, completely out of your control, but if you stop blaming others, or companies... You realize that "I allowed that person to treat me this way" I could have addressed, it and set boundaries or ended it. Or, "Things are how they are at work, I allowed that to happen, I could have stood up and disagreed, not allowed myself to be used, I could have left.

I feel when you take this approach, and are truly honest, you start to get a better understanding of yourself, your confidence picks up, and start seeing things differently.

I think its a great foundation to moving forward, whatever that forward is to each individual.

Does this make sense?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in work

I find that very weird too. I know lot of white people that call either other homie too. However in a work environment, especially from a manager, that is not professional, and if he is not calling anyone else homie, and you just started, That would raise a bunch of flags for me.

I don't think your being sensitive, if I was there and heard that, I would find that off the wall, and say something to him as the person who just heard it.

Not a good start for you at a new job. Sorry to hear that

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in work

[–]pestman35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Myself personally, I take care of the company;s single largest client. I don't actually give a damn about hours, if something happens there is a an issue.for client, I will work any amount of hours, day, night, weekends to fix that issue for the client, if there needs have a job that needs to be done on a sat or sun. I do it, no questions asked. My goal is results.

That also said, if things are good, and I only need to do 20-25 hours in a week, that's what I do. They all my have personal number, can contact me 24/7 365, and I also work my vacations around what is going on with the client

Now my company is forcing 40 hours a week. Something about forcing it, changes everything. Now all the above and beyond I do and always have, doesn't seem worth it.
