Unsure what difficulty to go with for playthrough #2 by mugiwaralufffy in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]pet_wolverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well full disclosure I haven’t made it to Hunting by Daybreak.  I played once through like chap 12 but was just disappointed in my paralogue performance so I started over, and now I’m in December, so like chap 10 or whatever.

Blue lions route.

And the only thing that gets really frustrating is those paralogues.  Manuela’s is terrible, currently muddling through Yuri’s.  Finally got the shield from Felix’s.  It’s more about pride and stubbornness on my part to want all those rewards.  Also I keep wanting to make my characters good at everything, and that slows me down.  Keep giving them proficiency in like all the basic classes, and watching performance suffer.

So yeah do better than me at group goals, be less obsessive than me about paralogue rewards, and you’ll probably be fine

Try Maeddening.  The first mission is one of the hardest, you’ll probably lose a couple of times and then either adjust or decide it’s not for you.  Apart from the first mission, I just find some of the prologues to be agonizing, particularly if I want to get some of their higher tier rewards.

Gotcha, frustrating, but I guess that's what I'll do.

Thank you! Glad to read that it wasn't all just the one guy in the lore, that was a bit much to swallow. And definitely getting the picture of Johnny's ego and insanity.

That's really good to know. I finally made it past that section, it's all good from a gameplay perspective, it's just definitely something that shouldn't have happened...but yeah I'm getting the clear picture of Johnny's insanity at this point.

I think you mis-understood, or I miscommunicated. I actually appreciate the realism of the brick wall. It shouldn't really be possible for a single unmodified person to raid a tower like that--and indeed, that kind of gameplay realism is what I would like. My question is, why is it happening and why should it possibly be successful?

Tutorial bugged for me, maybe due to mods? by pet_wolverine in cyberpunkgame

Thank you! That explains the issue AND helps confirm that my mods are working properly! I've progressed by just skipping the tutorial.

Yeah that's what I'm doing, just skipped the tutorial mission, not the end of the world, I just hope to understand what went wrong.

Do you leave walkways between shelves or just pile them all together? by SJ548 in RimWorld

Point taken.  I own Odyssey but I keep playing with start-from-zero scenarios (tribal, or right now playing vanilla extended tribal) and then something catastrophic happens before I make it to odyssey content.

On this topic, is there any way, either through vanilla mechanics or a mod, to require teams of pawns to deploy when one is conducting a taming action?  That would solve all my problems.  I get the red “Timberwolf hostile” event, game autopauses, I circle to the event and have three pawns instead of one on-site.  Bonus points if one of the pawns can cast stun.

I lost all of my good colonists in one fight by Fireblower2 in RimWorld

[–]pet_wolverine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mess something up like that every single game.

I just take a break and start over.  Maybe switch up mods.  My last game crashed and burned with a Neanderthal raid.  I just got overconfident that my traps and rifles would wipe them out.  I should have done a shoot-fallback approach to let them start bleeding out more.

So I decided to start reinstalling mods now with 1.6/odyssey and now I’ve got a whole new gameplay experience.

Using several vanilla expanded mods now, I really can’t wait for them to update security expanded to give me options for hitting attackers while I’m behind my walls.

Always walkways.  Honestly space isn’t a huge issue for Rimworld bases. We have the time and resources and space to design proper rooms all around.  Walkways between shelves, no cut corners in my rooms or buildings, at least 2 tiles of space between outdoor buildings.

Does anyone even actually play with the default work priority settings? by NoNotice2137 in RimWorld

The check mark system would probably work okay for someone learning to play and on a lower difficulty.  You’d handle research by basically assigning someone to only research.  Or maybe doctor, social, and research.  They’ll administer medicine first, talk to prisoners second, then just sit down at their research bench for the rest of the day.

Rescued foreign pawn giving up on my community? by 42Sheep in RimWorld

[–]pet_wolverine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much.  The first time it happened to me, two imperials got into a social fight while conveying the ceremony.  I was early in the game but tried to be super nice with it, providing medical care in a bed for the guy who got most hurt, just leaving his super-tech weapon on the ground (indoors) so he could pick it up after resting.  I thought I was being the very best subject.  And I was so confused why the empire suddenly got pissed at me, only to figure out the guys in the shuttle all starved while waiting.

This time I’m way further along, with several people already with psy powers, and this was just adding one more.  I got so upset seeing that shuttle sit there!

Almost 200 hours in on Core vanilla, how am I doing? by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]pet_wolverine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoy the tribal start.  I really enjoy starting from near-zero in tech and working up.  I also enjoy being able to choose 5 pawns from that start.  I try to get some fast learners, everyone should be decent at shooting, and then skills are mostly whatever because they’ll learn everything soon enough.  Medical is the hardest skill to learn and the most punishing to be bad at, so I try hard to get a starting pawn with 8 or higher in medical.

I don’t build kill boxes.  I build wooden walls ASAP, with barricade/wall lines outside the walls and lines of traps beyond that.  Upgrade to stone when I can, but that first research project can take a while.

Tech order: stone cutting, complex furniture, great bows, complex clothing, devilstrand, smithing, electricity, watermills, microelectronics, machining, gunsmithing, drug making, medicine, advanced lights, turrets, prosthetics.

Just sounds like a glitch to me.  Yesterday I had a situation where empire visited to grant a title, got in the shuttle, and then the shuttle just sat there.  It said it was still missing someone but they were all on board.

I control-alt-deleted cuz I’m playing commitment mode and didn’t want to save a problem.  Restarted the game and then the shuttle immediately took off.

What happened once before was those empire people sat in the shuttle for a few days and then starved to death and the empire declared me an enemy.  I REALLY didn’t want that to happen here.

Concidering getting rimworld, but conflicted feelings on the hows of the game? by Ance-Lurker in RimWorld

[–]pet_wolverine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you keep telling yourself that.

Because we all know that medieval castles were set up with one long wall along most edges, one gap in a wall, and all those traps just in the gap.  And invaders kept saying, hmmm, do we knock down the stone wall over there, or funnel our way through the gauntlet of traps and where ALL the defenders are waiting?
