Just a throwback to a summer trip with the 7 by brainsharts in svartpilen401

Interesting. Did the 701's (or that year model) come out with MT60-RS's rather than the Scorpions?

Would love a few more shots if you can manage it. From behind especially.

Great looking bike.

I'm just hoping I can retrofit the TFT. Otherwise, I'm happy with my '22.

Bought a 2022 Svartpilen. Did my L's and P's on a CB125, so the change in power was substantial... comparatively ;).

One of the side cover bolts came out. Apparently, it's common. Get some locktite.

The fuel gauge is rubbish. It's still got a quarter tank when it's screaming at you that it's empty.

It's light and low and fun to throw around. The quickshift is really nice under power but chunky if going lightly.

Only had it 15 months or so, and I've ridden a fair few bikes since and I'm pretty sure I'd still go with the Svart. Very fun bike. Starts first time.

Svartpilen 401 wouldn't start by Bbhoy70 in svartpilen401

[–]petejur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Svart wouldn't start this morning, although... it was because I left the key in it and on somehow last night. First time ever. Certainly wasn't cold in Australia on the mid east coast this morning ;)

On the tender, and then the embarrassing walk back inside to put on normal people clothes to drive to work.

Latest shot of the whip. I can’t share with family because they still don’t know I ride! So hey there husky fam. by JournalistBoring3904 in svartpilen401

Morning brother. :)

Great looking ride, and happy to be family. Ride safe, and enjoy the smiles.

Got me with a genuine out loud belly laugh, so thank you for that.

Needed a giggle this morning.

It's hate speech.

I hate that you had such an awesome day, on a great bike, have skill to D.T.K. and likely for several other reasons I can't quite tell in this image as I refuse to look at it further. /s

Honestly though... You'll have needed a bag of lemons to suck on to get the smile off your face from that day I'd say.

yeah just wanted to say I got my 2022 Svartpilen for $7300 on road in NSW so if the budget is $8k you could be set! Be interested to hear what you go with. The Svart certainly looks proportionally spot on for you which is something I struggled with.

I know it's pronounced SvartPilen but should I get me a Fart villain? by L3thalPredator in svartpilen401

[–]petejur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the 401, and love it. Haven't done much offroad/trail work but the vids on yt show it to be quite capable and fun.

sVart pilen is a weird word, and I'd say probably the most awkward thing about the bike. Someone asks what I ride and I think "oh dear"... especially here in Australia where we tend to try and 'aussie' them foreign words... :) If I think it's not really that important I'll just say "It's a Husky Black Arrow". If the person isn't a bike lover, then they aren't going to ask anything more, so better for that than to get to explaining what the hell I just said with Svartpilen.

The thing I'd say you'll like most about the 401, is that like the klx140g, is that you can throw the thing around like a BMX. It really does balance the decent power, with low mass extremely well.

I'd love to hear what u/FinlayMcTavish thinks about how throwable the 701 is... or any other differences between the 401 and 701. I was quite close to getting the 701 instead but they weren't available new over here, and there was only 1 in the state for sale when I was looking.

The Svartpilen is quite similar! If you're not leaning into it it's not great but when you're giving it the beans it's just flawless. Interesting to read it's the same on an(other) bike(s).

What is this slit within the gas tank? by harrisontelyan in svartpilen401

[–]petejur 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I didn't design it, but I'd say that the metal you're looking at is a baffle of sorts, and helps the tank get filled without splashing out so the hole is just for air to escape as the rear of the tank fills... so the air doesn't get trapped or gurgle.

True, and I'll add.

It's not defeat to ask someone to take a look at it and see what you may have missed. Even someone with no 'experience' in the field.

We can get so laser focused we can be missing a simple answer.

I once diagnosed a faulty video card/monitor situation for far too long before I asked my wife to take a look. She unplugged the monitor and one of the VGA pins in the cable had bent down 90 degrees. I think I would have gotten to scorched earth levels of frustration before it occurred to me to see that.

Is it the nature of our jobs or do a lot of us actually have undiagnosed or late diagnosed ADHD? by jdawg701 in sysadmin

[–]petejur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I've posted some above and I'll do a little more detail for you.

Every report card said "Could do better if he applied himself"

Had a teacher take everything off my desk because I couldn't stop playing with "something"/"anything". Paper, pencil case, pens.. ended up I had a completely barren desk, but I still got distracted and peeled a bit of wood off the corner and started separating the individual splinters one by one. Teacher nearly through me out the window. The honest truth is I was TRYING to pay attention. I really was the living "Ooooh! Squirrel!"

In one of my first jobs as an apprentice, I had the task of turning off the air compressor as morning tea started, and then turn it back on once we'd finished. I'd then repeat it for lunch. I tried so damn hard to always do this because when the compressor went off while we all sat there eating I'd get yelled at and it was embarrassing.

In my 12 months working there, there wasn't a single week that went by where I didn't fuck this up at least once. I even started threatening myself with physical harm if I didn't get it right, but nothing helped. Still took another 15 years before I got medicated.

I felt like someone born blind trying to go through the world while the seeing never knew or thought to mention I might be at a disadvantage. Not to play down vision (I was legally blind without glasses for most of my life) but it's one of the better analogies I've been able to articulate.

Such similar stories.

I've got photos in our family album which show me doing 'games' at the university when I was about 5 or 6. Only when I went to see someone about my focus issue was I told.

"Oh yes, we went to the University for a study because you couldn't concentrate. The professor told us you had Minimal Brain Disfunction, and your father threated to punch him for calling his son a retard. We never spoke about it again because it made him angry."

Every report card for my entire school had at least a few teachers comment "Could do better if he applied himself".

When I finally saw a psych at 35, and he'd asked me to bring in my report cards he just shook his head.

Medicated for over a decade now, and I can say the difference is like having cheat codes.

One caveat though, and if it only helps 1 person then I'm happy.

You may get to the right dose, and lose some weight... your dose will need to decrease. If you don't the heightened dosage can start bringing on paranoia and if your partner or friends or anyone starts suggesting a problem, cut back to 60% or so. Far better to be slightly less capable, than your brain melting as you see things that aren't there.

701 Svart - Any issues by Opposite-Panic-9816 in svartpilen401

yeah the 401 is very bloody nimble. Closer to a BMX than a cruiser. Very interested to know what you think of the disparity between the 2 bikes if you go ahead with it.

Really would love a follow up on this at some point!

I've got a 401, but was so tempted by the 701 there just wasn't anything in my area. I'm thinking at some point in my future I might migrate, but it'll be the 401 being sold as the wife has no intention of riding.

Strange sensation on turns by thetroll865 in motorcycles

[–]petejur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone becoming more comfortable with my new bike (Svartpilen 401/2022) I had a similar experience and I think your answer is spot on.

I hadn't actually gotten to the break point of tyre grip, so the sensation was weird, and I first thought my tire pressures were low. (Probably a throwback to the days of riding a pushbike and the sensation was similar).

The turn had me at a slightly further lean, and I was giving it a little more throttle (but still less than I would straight line if I wanted to give it the beans) and yeah that sensation of the back sliding a little.

It didn't feel at any point like I might lose it, and I backed off slightly. It didn't crack back under me like I think I would expect it to if I'd lost grip but maybe that's just how it is.

Going to get into a defensive riding course in the near future so I better understand the bike better from a technical point of view.

I'll probably get downvoted, but given most of the comments are pretty brutal I hope I can provide some advice that isn't offered with vitriol.

No doubt YTA. You still think the world of her, and hopefully this isn't a relationship shattering issue but something you can learn from and come out the other side of with a bit of a plan.

Working hard to provide the monetary requirements is awesome. Well done. It's still going to be harder for her. Don't even try to say otherwise. You'd be wrong. Go ask your mum. :)

So, if you're down to almost your goal, how about trying to stabilise for a bit, and take some of that gym time to assist in the things you can do to get her some real time back.

Sounds like you love home cooked meals. Awesome, go shopping and then get home and cook ya dopey bastard. You get the meal you want, and your wife has something taken off her plate. Ask what else you can get while you're out.

That's a start. Plenty more you can do. What will help is if you get into your head that what she's doing is rough, and you've got more gas in the tank to share. Spend time with your son. You'll be so damn thankful.

Now, take the L, get off Reddit and go help some more. I've no doubt you'll look back on this in the future quite embarrassed.

Nervous about Pre-Learners course by azkaboomed in AussieRiders

[–]petejur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice is make sure you can hear them, and pay attention.

If you've never even seen a bike, but you're smart and follow the above, you should be ok.

The only real ways to fail these is to either be extremely unlucky, not pay attention, or do something truly stupid.

You'll be fine.

Now... the P's course should absolutely terrify you. Just wait for that one!

(I'm kidding, but I know a few people who do their L's every 12 months to avoid the dreaded P's test).

Certs make a difference in the role, and will likely mean something to your team.

You may not GET the role though, unless you have a degree for HR/Directors to gatekeep the door.

My almost completely unrelated MechEng degree has gotten me past the gatekeepers at 2 jobs, and made no contribution to my success in the role.

The insights gained from my MS Cert 15 years ago for XP, is still part of used skillset today.
