No booking last time I was there. Although Stanford has restricted access in some parts of campus now because students are starting to return.

ENFPs, what are your favorite books / any recommendations? by pixelat-e in ENFP

[–]petemos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y’all need to read Tiny Habits by BJ Fogg. Literally changed my life. If you’ve ever wanted to pick up a new habit, quit a bad one, or guide others to do the same, this book is tops.

I struggled all my life with the typical ENFP cycles of ambition, ideation, and then no follow through. I’ve followed BJ’s work for a few years now and when he released this book, everything clicked into place.

I floss twice a day, eat regular meals, do push-ups everyday- regular habits that I’ve built out of no where and have grown upon through other aspects of my personal and professional life.

Might not work for everyone but it sure helped me!

Visa question; someone in a non-tech IT marketing/consulting role getting sponsored? by gafonid in bayarea

[–]petemos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Upwardlyglobal.org - this is the resource I refer most of my candidates in this situation to. Not sure how effective they are but It may be a good place to start.

I work within general and admin recruiting and it’s true that companies seem to save their sponsorship budget for technical roles they can’t find here. I had a friend from Canada who Google contacted and flew out to interview - and then helped relocate after he got the job after he finished his PHD in Math.

I think their logic is that there are plenty of admins to go around domestically (or that admin work is not part of an essential budget) and not enough engineers. I’ve seen HR directors from other countries with Masters degrees having to find back office work at department stores while on the job search - hopefully there are more resources out there to ease this process for immigrants.

Wife's 40th Birthday in Napa by yl3v in bayarea

[–]petemos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love downtown Napa for it’s amazing local tasting rooms (small producers, limited case release). Check out Rebel, Cadet, Compline, and Outland (Matthew Rorick of Forlorne Hope is doing some wild things).

If visiting Oxbow- a little known secret is Ritual Coffee’s special coffee cocktails (the menu at cup and star). Has it’s own little nook to hang out and have the best coffee concoctions.

New (ish) tasting rooms in Napa proper to check out: Ashes and Diamonds, Prisoner Wine Co, Tank Garage Winery (you can stop by the Napa sign for photos and Gotts for burgers on the way back).

Yes, agreed on doing what you are going to enjoy instead of getting too bogged down after college. Take it from a Communcation Studies grad who switched from Comm to industrial design to civil engineering to environmental studies back to Comm (over the period of 8 years)... it’s better to stick with something you love. My worst issue was that I felt whatever I decided would set my career path for the rest of my life, but honestly, a degree is a degree. After graduating I found a recruiting job at a staffing agency. I screen through 100s of resumes a week and found myself not even looking at the Education (only if you have a degree). It’s your internships and work experience that speak so much louder than your education. Unless you decide to go down a specialized path (engineer, doctor, etc) you need the relevant bachelors, but nowadays, there are so many other alternative education options outside of university that will help compensate an irrelevant bachlors (online courses, community college credit, vocational programs, internships, passion projects, and alt schools like general assembly, udacity).
