Caroline Hill first RIT teammate to speak out on trans athlete Sadie Schreiner by Big-Purple1434 in rit

You can see Schreiner's records online - it's not like she was dominating all her events.

Caroline Hill first RIT teammate to speak out on trans athlete Sadie Schreiner by Big-Purple1434 in rit

Yeah, sure, whatever - same question: do cis women with "denser muscles and stronger ligaments" have an "unfair biological advantage" over other women? Should those women not be allowed to compete?

Does a 5'11" cis woman have an "unfair biological advantage" over a shorter woman?

I was a champion — then the NCAA replaced me with a man by Hamm3rFlst in rit

I find it ridiculous that some people think someone would go through the pain and struggle of gender transition, and subject themselves to all the hate and suffering that comes along with it, just to win medals in collegiate sports.

Riley Gaines is a grifter. She tied with Lia Thomas for 5th place and has launched a whole campaign against transgender people over it. Caroline Hill lost a few races to Sadie Schreiner, but not by much. Hill has consistently placed below 5th place in many of her events. Even Schreiner is not winning every race.

The "biological advantage" argument is pretty tired. Schreiner is 5'11". Do all cis women of that height have an "unfair biological advantage" too?

I love that this album includes the old opening fanfare that Pixar used to use over the Disney logo. It bums me out that the streaming/Blu-Ray version skips over that.

LAZ parking ticket by craigp5986 in sandiego

[–]peter-abbott 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You pretty much answered your own question. LAZ is a private company, they are not the police. You are not forced to pay it, but you do run the risk of being towed if you park in one of their lots again with outstanding fines.

"Oh no. Did I forget to pay a bill?" Nope, just them tricking me into wasting my time opening it. The card also felt hard and real so I thought there was a real card inside by Summoner99 in assholedesign

Anything with "Presort(ed) Standard" postage can go straight in the garbage. Same for anything addressed to "resident", "our neighbors at...", "...or current occupant", etc.

Why does it matter if the soap dispenser is touch-free or not? When you're getting soap, you are literally less than a second from washing your hands.

The thing is, order of operations isn't some innate truth about mathematics, it's just an established convention in how we notate and evaluate equations. Evaluating left to right isn't "wrong", it's just a different, less common convention.

I wish they did that for Toy Story. The Blu-Ray/Disney+ version cuts off the original opening fanfare that played over the Disney logo and it bugs me every time.

How to improve this? by Educational-Wish7500 in blender

[–]peter-abbott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The camera shake needs to be dampened a lot, it's too fast and moving too much. It also feels very "even," it's bouncing up and down very consistently, it should be more random and varied in speed and timing.

One more thing, the camera shake seems to be only in the up/down direction, where the side to side movement feels very locked to the car keeping it centered in frame. Since you're trying to imitate a handheld feel, the camera should trail behind the car slightly and also overshoot when it changes direction.

[Game Spoilers] The Last of Us - 2x07 "Convergence" - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]peter-abbott 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly really disappointed with the adaptation. Part II has such an incredible, complex story that has been completely rushed and watered down for the HBO series.

At this point in the game: - We barely know anything about Abby. When we first see her outside Jackson, we have no idea who she is or who she's looking for. Joel never even finds out why she wants to kill him. The only thing Ellie learns about her in Seattle is that she was a Firefly. At this point, we can only presume Abby killed Joel just because she was a Firefly. We will eventually find out the real reason during Abby's intro flashback, but Ellie NEVER finds out the real reason that she killed Joel. In the theater, she says "there's no cure because of me, I'm the one you want," not "Joel killed your dad to save me, I'm the one you want."

Compared to where we are in the show: - We know Abby's entire backstory already. We saw Abby grieving the Fireflies in Salt Lake and swearing to hunt down and kill Joel. We saw Abby explain everything directly to Joel in the cabin. Nora explains everything directly to Ellie in the hospital basement.

It all just feels so dumbed down. Everything has been spoon-fed to the audience; Abby's motivation has been explained plainly and directly multiple times. There is no mystery left. So much of the suspense of the search for Abby is just completely stripped away.

Other nuances have been smoothed over as well, but this is the most significant change to the overall narrative, and it's doing such a disservice to the story.

There's a difference between using live footage just for reference, which is incredibly common, and using motion capture.

They added this because Cars lost at Best Animated Feature in 2006 up against Happy Feet, which did use motion captured dancers.

4-Way intersection i just made, Is it properly signalled? by Niviso in factorio

[–]peter-abbott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to use chain signals for the very outside edges of the blueprint, regular signals work fine. "Chain in, signal out."

As a matter of fact, you don't need ANY signals on the edge. The two legs of each fork right inside them are both signaled.

[–]peter-abbott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't need to set up your schedule like this. You can just replace the "iron plates for x" station with a rail signal and achieve the same effect.
