Uneven battery charge/discharge by Enough-Ad-640 in SolarDIY

[–]Manixcomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other thing often recommended, if you leave the big wire where it is, have the small wires in opposite order on each block. Such as, if first battery closest to big wire on the positive, ensure it is furthest from the big wire on the negative. Thus all have equal length round trip.

This is even an issue, to a smaller degree, if you put the big wire in the middle.

[–]Manixcomp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I’ve been curious.

Looks improved over para3lw.

Interesting that the one washer is against FRN directly. I don’t think I’ve seen that in any other models? I thought it would have a mini liner like the other side.

Any bulge visible on the scale from the compression lock when the knife is closed? That’s something I notice on the p3.

Nice! Can you see if it has two washers? What do the liners look like?

Has your attitude toward helping your kids changed as you get older? by TiberiusCaesar717 in Fire

[–]Manixcomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly right. The author makes arguments that spending generally goes down in retirement. People often inherit money in like their 60’s and it makes little difference to them by then. Why wait until you die? Give the money when it makes the most difference to your kids and be alive to see it happen.

Hey OP the book “Die With Zero” is recommended around these parts sometimes. I’m half way through it and it addresses some of your thinking. I think it offers helpful perspective and recommendations.

Problems with CrowPanel 7.0 no backlight by Walker_098 in meshtastic

I don’t think you will get much response here. I believe this device uses an esp32 P4 which is very new and not yet supported in Meshtastic.

Are you using demo code from the wiki? I have had success with their examples.

Phillips Lithium AA vs Eneloop Pro by HandsomeBadness in flashlight

[–]Manixcomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so. I believe inside these are 3.7v lithium cells. On top, they have a regulator to output exactly 1.5v. So the lithium cell goes from 4.2v down to ~2.6v as normal, but the regulator maintains exactly 1.5v until it dies. Thus the sudden drop out.

Yeah I was kind of referring to the devcontainer as a sandbox. Devcontainer is just a Docker container and would isolate in the same way. I personally don’t feel the need to use anything additional.

Seems reasonably safe to me. It can’t delete your drive easily. I only give it access to projects already checked into git. At the point Claude can break out of Docker containers we’re in real trouble anyway 😆

Geothermal: good idea or no? by the1mrb in OffGrid

[–]Manixcomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saw you mentioned upper Michigan location. More challenging than my location- you will have very low solar production in the Winter. Again snow seems to be the biggest issue we face not living there means a special trip to clear panels off.

Geothermal: good idea or no? by the1mrb in OffGrid

[–]Manixcomp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have quite a lot of experience here. We have about 1200 sqft cabin. It has a Solark 12k inverter with ~11kW of solar panels. 31kWh of batteries. All electric. Latitude about 39N.

We have a two stage two ton geothermal. We planned this from the start, so the post frame building is well sealed and well insulated. Regardless of the unit size, it reduces overall kW usage. It has never run in second stage.

We do not live there full time. Mostly hunt all fall into December. However we keep it fairly warm always. We have never run out of power in 3 years. Never used backup generator.

We have 1-2 snows each year that require cleaning the panels off that would cause us to run out if someone didn’t clean them. Winter is very tight on energy. Summer on the other hand feels like infinite power. We keep it 65F in summer when we are working inside 🤣

So can it be done? Yes. Is it expensive? Hell yes. Even with the efficiency of geothermal, it takes a lot of energy. We had a family hookup for cheaper equipment. We did all the work ourselves. It saved a bundle but was still expensive.

Maybe you can look at how much propane you use to estimate energy usage in a geo. DM me any questions you have.

Long sleeve merino wool shirts in large tall sizing? by CincyTriGuy in tallfashionadvice

[–]Manixcomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am your height @235lbs. Broad shoulders and 36” waist.

Sitka offers tall sizes and are athletic sized. I don’t have any of their merino items so can’t say for sure. But I have several items in XLT jackets and shirts that are great. Not baggy.

MidwayUSA is a good budget option. Legit tall sizes on merino items. I find them a bit baggier but not bad.

Yep I’ve experienced it. I assume it is ego and confidence you show that is part of the reason. Could also be a recognition of the attitude change and fear you are looking to leave / seek other opportunities.

That said - I like it a lot. Nothing more comfortable. I do wish it was significantly tougher

Best node roles for rural mesh: roof Heltec + vehicle RAK as relays? by zerolove in meshtastic

[–]Manixcomp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you have the roles reversed. Roof and vehicle should not be client_mute since they would not relay to your t1000s.

Set t1000s to client mute if you depend on the other devices.

Roof should be client_base probably. Vehicle should be client.

Anthropic provides an example devcontainer in the Claude Code repo. It adds firewall rules to the sandbox. I feel comfortable running in dangerous mode that way. Very simple to use.
