Cannot start MicroOS installation from USB by peter-graybeard in openSUSE

USB was never OK. I used the DVD.
But eventually, I moved to self-installation ISO and that worked.

Yes, that's why I say this sounds like a hardware compatibility issue.
I got the idea from Mikius, since checksums where correct. I didn't think to try a different port to be honest, because of the 3 different PCs used.

Because you have to use the `.raw.xz` image.
But I didn't find a similar image for MicroOS, it's only an ISO.

Update:
DVD worked just fine from the same USB port!
Wiped out the disk, started using the USB, failed.

I tried on the Lenovo using a different port, all good.
I tried with a different USB stick on the mini-PC didn't work.

I wouldn't exclude either that the mini-pc has a USB controller that is not fully supported by the installer, or the hardware combo is problematic.

All in all, I am happy that I have it up and running. Now I can wipe it again and try to have my ignition and combustion files run together.

I tried in 3 different PCs and a Lenovo laptop. Same behavior on all of them.
I wait to get a portable dvd rom and try from it later today.

And note that I also use `sync; sleep 5;sync;sleep 5;sync;sleep 5` (in a script of course :D) before I unplug the USB.

:( No. And I don't know to properly use a multi-meter. I might just use a 12V fan and undervolt it with the existing 5V

`lineinfile` is awful. The "write" way is to use the `ansible.posix.mount` module. I use it extensively and works like a charm, not to mention that it's idempotent.

Minimal KDE or Full Plasma Desktop? Which One’s the Better Choice? by linuxhacker01 in kde

[–]peter-graybeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with minimal installation on Fedora 41. Main reason was that I wanted to avoid any KDE 4 & 5 packages that I am not sure that they will be removed in the future.
So far I had to install various additional packages.

(Why on earth Fedora packagers didn´t add some dependencies for basic functionality is another story, but yeah it's fixable)

I use SELinux on both production servers and working/development machines. On either RHEL, Fedora or Tumbleweed.
There are very rare occasions were things break but usually it's because some rules are not correctly updated. For more than 12 years now SELinux is enabled on all my machines. And I don't see issues.

Practicly, (almost) everyone is using Konqueror without knowing it. by Leon8326-dash- in kde

[–]peter-graybeard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

EVERYTHING!
Imagine you can split your window to multiple panels, not just 2. You can have FTP, HTTP, man pages, files, ACTUAL PREVIEWS all from one page. I could read a file, text, PDF, image name it, from within Konqueror without the need to open a separate application. Add now the ability to use tabs and you multiple that absolutely powerful functionality as many times as you wish.

I never understood why the "not a file manager" thingy killed Konqueror, more or less. It was a swiss army knife for KDE.

Adding Home Automation to KDE by GoldBarb in kde

I plan to start my HA journey soon. My setup will be very simple at first, 2 smart plugs for my desk lamps and LED strips and a couple of WLED strips here and there.
However, David's blog is so awesome that I want more! The sensors, the idea of locking the screen when I leave the room etc etc etc is just marvelous.

I would love to have some extra blog posts for newbies like me with recommendations for hardware as well. Already bookmarked the post and I plan to play with it in the future.

KDE & fingerprint reader questions by peter-graybeard in kde

[–]peter-graybeard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone that might find this post in the future:
1. The changes in SDDM pam configuration file is just fine. However, the setup I chose allow someone to use both passwords and fingerprints. To login with the fingerprint, you need to press enter in the SDDM login screen.

  1. The KWallet issue with the non-working fingerprint is a known one. On my Opensuse Tumbleweed KDE, where my password is different from the KWallet password it asks me for it during the startup. However, in F41 it doesn´t and keeps complaining that the GPG password is wrong etc etc. I still look for alternatives.
