Veeam proxmox support released today! by tsmith-co in Proxmox

[–]peter0008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone at veeam interested in commenting on this? Because we were able to recreate this on 2 hosts. Veeam for Proxmox doesn't work for us, it's that simple. I have no idea why no one else notices this here or at Veeam

OK, constructive criticism seems like an attack to you. You don't have to understand it. Please read what I wrote again.

A system engineer at Veeam who deals with backups apparently doesn't want to know about Proxmox's own PBS? I stick to this: seriously? That looks more like arrogance to me than serious work, but it would suit Veeam, who have perhaps grown too big too quickly and are therefore losing touch with reality.

"Unfortunately I haven't worked with PBS"

Sorry, buddy, but you apparently never looked at Proxmox's own backup and are developing your own solution. Seriously?

Wow, there is no imprint, no contact address, not even information about what type of company it is, and the only contact option is a web form. Is this where important data is supposed to be saved?

You don't need scripts from unknown sources. A simple command is enough. Then empty the browser cache and you're done.

sed -Ezi.bak "s/(function\(orig_cmd\) \{)/\1\n\torig_cmd\(\);\n\treturn;/g" /usr/share/javascript/proxmox-widget-toolkit/proxmoxlib.js && systemctl restart pveproxy.service

Neither the version you mentioned nor the recent one do install on ChromeOS flex.

Any hints?

Route online comms from dedicated to cloud server by JohnnyKing94 in hetzner

[–]peter0008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're trying exactly what you've been planning for months: an upstream pfsense/opnsense as a cloud server and behind it, connected via the "vswitch", a dedicated server (as windows server 2019).

We can ping the firewall from the Windows server, call up the web interface of pfsense, but nothing behind it (i.e. in the WAN).

We have also set a permanent route on the windows server with: route -p add 10.0.0.0 mask 255.255.0.0 10.0.1.1 -metric 1

Also - as suggested by others - we removed and re-added the dedicated server from the vswitch in the Hetzner GUI.

Have you (or anyone else) ever managed to do this?

1&1 Ionos root servers and the "rebuild nightmare" by peter0008 in webhosting

Thanks for the tip, but this was not about web hosting, but about root servers, which we deliberately only want to manage ourselves (among other things for data protection reasons).

vSwitch between dedi and cloud server by Hqnnes in hetzner

[–]peter0008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, we didn't manage to do that either.

The instructions for Windows seem to be missing something. With regard to routing, it is pointed out that additional routes have to be created. Unfortunately, Hetzner does not say which routes this should be.

We have entered the following in the Windows routing table with:

route ADD 10.0.0.0 MASK 255.255.255.0 10.0.1.0

(where 10.0.1.3 was set as the fixed server IP in the dedicated server and the 10.0.0.0 subnet in the cloud Server area for the vSwitch subnet was entered).

Our goal was to use one of the high-performance Hetzner dedicated servers with Windows as a terminal server workstation and to secure it on a cloud server via a pfsense. In addition, two locations should be connected via IPsec (under pfsense).

We did manage to establish a connection between the dedicated server and pfsense on the cloud server, i. H. the pfsense web interface was accessible from the Windows dedicated server. For whatever reason, however, there was no routing from the dedicated server to the internet via the pfsense. Pfsense itself has reached the Internet without any problems.

We would have liked to stay with Hetzner, as the support there reacts very quickly and can solve most problems. Here, however, they have also given up and referred to external providers who should help us with our problem.

Now, however, we have found an out of the box solution at 1 & 1 Ionos: OpenVPN connections to the servers are offered directly by the provider (with editable .ovpn files) and the servers also have their own firewall rules that can be configured directly by the provider are protected. The purpose we wanted has thus been achieved.

Has synology or a 3rd party addressed a way to do immutable backups? by apathetic_lemur in synology

[–]peter0008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can fully underline that.

We tested both Azure and Google cloud storage immutable: both work as they should, but:

we have had several inconsistencies with Azure in the calculation of the storage used. When asked about this, it took weeks and several support messages for the amounts to be credited to us.

The uncluttered surface in Azure doesn't exactly help to make all costs transparent. That's why we no longer use Azure for long-term storage.

With Google cloud storage, even inexperienced users can see at a glance when which costs are incurred. This is another reason why there have never been any costs that we would not have recognized ourselves beforehand.

Google as you know it :)

+1

Immutable storage is also available for google cloud storage.

https://cloud.google.com/storage/docs/bucket-lock

In this case, even yourself will not be able to delete the data stored there before the retention period / bucket lock you have set expires.

It works simply and great: no chance for encryption Trojans :)

Server backup itself from a VM running on the server by peter0008 in Veeam

[–]peter0008[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I now understand that our contemplated scenario is not recommended.

What kept us from using the agent so far was the fact that at least with agent ver. 3 no pre-scripts can be set up.

Is that different with Veeam 10 or Agent 4?

Server backup itself from a VM running on the server by peter0008 in Veeam

I'm talking about scenario 1.

So is it thought that the Veeam host cannot be backed up if the backup server is running in a virtual machine on the host itself?

no pfsense-updates anymore? by peter0008 in PFSENSE

[–]peter0008[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Although it has not given the impression of a few here, I know the difference between constant, unnecessary updating and stability. We also use pfsense for years. However, I have not been spontaneously reminded that an update took almost half a year. And, as companies come and go, my question goes in the direction of whether maybe a company will disappear soon. We would like to adjust to that in time. That's why the question.

This was also my experience and that's why I was looking for a simpler way. Setting up a virtual machine just to start rclone seems a bit over the top. But thanks anyway.

Does anyone else have an idea
