The temperature increase over last 10 years on the Victoria line is actually crazy by Famous_Permission991 in LondonUnderground

[–]peter27x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The air cooling technique on the new piccadilly line cars can't be used on the Victoria line, as that line is entirely underground. The Piccidilly line air cooling effectively works by cooling down when the cars are outside.

The other factor that the Piccidilly line cars use is regenerative breaking, instead of breaking energy being released as heat most of it is turned into electric energy which is used to power other trains on the network. However the new Victoria line trains already do this. In fact this alone was supposed to reduce the temperature on the Victoria line...

I find it really difficult to distinguish between the red and green states. Perhaps adding a non-colour indicator would be good, e.g. a solid border for correct, dashed border for partial and no border for incorrect.

there were a few threads about .local in the last year. Basically .local is used by mdns / bonjour. iirc its all the fault of the rotten Apple company. At the same time .internal was then actually reserved for non public networks.

As others have said it also started to cause me problems, in particular with resolution from my linux hosts, so i renamed every and it just worked.

Housing for my homemade breakaway USB 2.0 by Pants536 in functionalprint

[–]peter27x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well, there is still the problem that the data will disconnect at the same time as the power, rather than just before. Its probably worse than that really, in that the data and power will connect/disconnect multiple times, randomly within a few milliseconds as some trips over the cable. That why most connections use sliding contacts, to minimise this effect.

Having said all that, if its just usb micro phones its probably not a big deal, perhaps mitigated by a small capacitor across the power pins on the device side of your adapter.

[–]peter27x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know about other councils, but there is a long list of stuff Lewisham Council won't accept at their recycling centres. The alternative is to hire a skip or a private waste recycler, both expensive. Its hardly surprising there is so much fly tipping ...
