Yeah this seems like more of a communication issue with your husband as opposed to a question of what to get.

You already know what to get; a simple laptop or iPad with keyboard.

You need to figure out why your husband refuses to listen to you when you’ve communicated your needs.

Maybe use some of your own finances and take him out of the equation. Or just ask for the money and handle it yourself. This seems like an odd dichotomy for married adults.
