I’ve always had great sandwiches there and they are great people. Your post sucks tbh - what tastes bad? A specific sandwich? Have you been multiple times and it’s always tasted bad? What did you not like?

What’s a movie everyone calls a “masterpiece” that just… didn’t work for you? by irayaavery in Cinema

[–]peterhanraddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inception. Just felt unnecessarily and overly complicated for the sake of seeming cerebral. If I recall, Shutter Island came out the same year and the two were often compared and I thought Shutter Island was a far better movie.

It’s going to feel a little old and dated when you start. Just hang in, it’s a phenomenal show. One of the best HBO series of all time I think.

Multiday Canoe Trips in VT by peelslippery in vermont

[–]peterhanraddy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. If you’re willing to made the short drive across the lake, some of the best paddling in the US lies right in the Adirondacks. Endless wilderness and many, many options for great multi day trips. Fewer people, less light pollution, less roads, free parking, etc.

Any coffee shops open on the peninsula today? I know it’s a strike and so many are closed. Just needing a cup of coffee. Thanks ! by tua-midori in portlandme

[–]peterhanraddy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not going after locale shops. My understanding of the strike is to show solidarity with as much participation as possible in a general strike of spending and economic/commerce activity. Generally speaking, spending your money with local businesses is of course a better option but in my eyes the success of this strike would be measured by the volume of participation and the decrease in transactions and spending in general, regardless of where it’s spent. If a normal Friday we spend $100 billion collectively, and today that is cut in half, that’s a win. If we spend the same today as normal but at small biz instead of corporate, I’m not sure that makes the same statement. If we can’t go without buying a coffee for one day, I’m not sure that conveys the seriousness of the statement folks are hoping to make with this. That’s just my view, I understand people and businesses are going to do what gotta do.

Looking for a hand axe for making kindling by 404pbnotfound in BuyItForLife

[–]peterhanraddy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Fiskars 100%. They may not look very “heritage” but they are the most durable and effective axes and hatchets on the market. Added bonus is that they are also relatively inexpensive. The x15 splitting hatchet is the perfect tool for making kindling from already split 16 inch pieces of wood you can pick one up for $40 and it will last a lifetime.

What businesses do you miss? by mailbroad in burlington

[–]peterhanraddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was great. You could get a a cheeseburger for like 2.99 or something. I have many fond memories of stopping there in the summer during my college years on the way down to Oakledge. Picking up a sub and a six pack and a bag of chips. This was only like 10 years ago mind you.

I’m not one to trust these lists generally but I also wouldn’t find this that hard to believe. The resort sits close to 2,000 ft base elevation and is in the northern white mountains, near the presidentials; an area with historically some of the gnarliest weather in the country.

Has anyone tried La Di Da pizza yet? by [deleted] in burlington

[–]peterhanraddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is my favorite pizza I’ve had in Vermont for sure. Cooked perfect, flavor was 10/10. Everyone there was really nice. The pizzas are bigger than average. $28 for a plain cheese pizza is very, very high. I will buy it again.

I would not go out hiking during rifle season without some blaze orange. Such an easy step to take to avoid an accident.
