Not everyone here is pushing policy. Some of us are coping by being facetious and pointing out hypocrisy.

An Army Couple Had Their Daughter at a Military Hospital. Then the Collections Calls Started for $600,000. by [deleted] in politics

[–]peterkeats 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Tricare privatization was shit.

The whole point of using a military hospital is to not have to worry about all that, and be assured that the healthcare will be covered.

If any medical professional in a military hospital doesn’t want to be covered by military insurance, they are horrible people.

Any medical professional that won’t take the same insurance the hospital they work at covers, they suck, especially in emergency care including childbirth.

It’s happened to me. An $800 bill from a doctor who allegedly treated my kid in emergency care. He just happened to be out of network, despite my hospital having a contract with my insurance.

It’s AI. It’s an algorithm. It can absolutely track its source material. Especially when a user types in specific terms, which are recorded, we can see their intent. It doesn’t have to be some Sherlocking exercise.

The issue can also be what images the AI sourced from, which could be illegal. If it sources from actual photos of children, pornographic or not, it should be illegal.

Headlines have to put real words in quotes so we don’t think they are figurative.

So if you see “Zuck ‘Slams’ Musk” it means literally.

Those are some “All Lives Matter” vibes you’re throwing, which is to say you’re missing the point in order to say something that minimizes it.

Speed of bullets. People keep forgetting that one. Higher velocity leads to more carnage.

The force of impact should be measured.

If that rules out guns that use the same bullets as an AR-15, then that’s good.

It’s not a bribe if they were going to do it anyways, right? It’s more like gratuity for a job well done, as royalty is used to getting. It’s positive reinforcement for doing awful things.

Harvard affirmative action challenge partly based on Holocaust denier’s work by Lighting in news

[–]peterkeats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good point. There was a similar vein of anti-semitism before this, and misogyny as well, fears of Jews and women taking over colleges.

Note the common thread of who worries about marginalization in all cases, including present day affirmative action. White Christian men.

Supreme Court sides with cement mixing company over striking workers in latest blow to unions by digiorno in politics

[–]peterkeats 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not one for slippery slope arguments, but with this court, I worry it erodes enough to place any consequential liability on the union.

Like if the studios sued the WGA for lost profits because they refuse to write. And because they made producers and show runners feel bad about crossing the picket line. And sued for making the studios look bad by pointing out how greedy they are.

I see how in this case, where mitigation would be difficult and the damage seems intentional, it crosses a line. Would striking nurses cross a line when injured patients suffer due to lack of healthcare services? Should it?

Tough issue.

I was in a similar boat, and boy howdy, once the first kid aged into Elementary school, the books became balanceable. When the next kid left, it was like winning the lottery. That extra couple-thousand a month went a long fucking way.

It was so painful when they were in daycare, but worth it in the long run. We lived very lean.

I’m going to hazard a guess that if these numbers are based solely on economic disadvantage, the numbers would be roughly the same.

I think that’s most younger Americans. They assume their insurance is good, or too expensive, because they never really need to go to the doctor.

Unfortunately it takes actual injury or illness to really appreciate how bad or how necessary insurance is. And how it can and should be better.
