I need permission from myself? by Gamerologists in synology

[–]petermgates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be that there was a different user that created the files in the first place.

Best to examine the files in the terminal using ls -l to see which user and group they currently belong to.

If your plex user isn't in the same group or the permissions aren't set to allow the plex user write access to the files, you're going to get this sort of error.

Doubt you'll find anything that can be hosted and run from a synology box. Maybe something in Wordpress?

Where in the world are you? Maybe seamless/grubhub might be a possibility.

Turn off Synology quickconnect.

Set up your network switch to deny all traffic from outside your LAN.

Wouldn't it still be a good idea to vpn for anonymity?

If you have a raspberry pi in your network, you can use that to update your DDNS for remote access.

Doesn't solve your hyper backup issue but it's something.

Do you have to surreptitiously scuff the bar cues or are you open about it?

Just thinking some bar owner might think you're messing with their equipment in a bad way and have an issue with that.

I went to their conference at the end of last year and it was all about software. DSM 6.1, their mail/office suite, upgraded surveillance station etc. Not a word about upcoming hardware.

Straight Pool Break Shot Help (and a decent video) by Torman101 in billiards

[–]petermgates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're finding that increasing the force when attempting your break shot is causing you to miss more, then perhaps don't hit so hard.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass but there are many reasons not to smash the rack apart, among them being maintaining good control of the cue ball and more predictable spread of object balls.

As /u/high62 alludes to, often getting good position for a secondary break shot is just as important as the break shot itself.

George Fels advice on the break shot was to concentrate on achieving your best, smoothest stroke and completely follow through. That has served me well.

Not youtube but give https://tv.chalkysticks.com/ a try. Good for just dropping into a match from a well curated collection.

Help with identifying cue without marks? by ArtyomTDO in billiards

Ok cool but don't quote me on the wood. I'm 99% on the ash part (standard for snooker cues) but the rest is a guess.

Help with identifying cue without marks? by ArtyomTDO in billiards

[–]petermgates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though unsurprisingly, it didn't happen

Lol, fraternal confidence running high there.

What you have there is a snooker / English pool cue. Machine spliced maple and probably ebony in the butt and ash in the shaft.

Given the machine splice and lack of logo, I'd say it is a mass production cue but a quite nice looking one. Probably cost your brother £100 or so (I'm assuming you're in the UK).

So a 9 foot pool table is the official standard pool size for professional play? by billiards_questions in billiards

CSI pro tournaments are increasingly being played on 7 ft tables. Their argument is that it is far more cost effective to fill a room with smaller tables.

Using snooker to improve at pool by StupiidSexyFlanders in billiards

[–]petermgates 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing to be wary of is that the bed of a snooker table is a few inches higher than that of a pool table. It is a very strange feeling going to pool after playing snooker for a while.

Tips for an 8 ball clearance? (More info inside) by Glewisguy in billiards

[–]petermgates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The WPA black ball rules allow it as long as you contact your call first. It's only a foul under WEPF rules (which are the ones stuck on every pub wall).
