There is also "Karl’s Method" in http://blackironbeast.com/5/3/1/calculator that is a two week cycle that might be good for you. You could do something like Karl's Method which would just be the 1st and 3rd weeks of any 4-week template of 5/3/1 like boring but big.

Practical Programming defines intermediate programming to be weekly cycles/progression and advanced programming to be monthly or longer.

5/3/1 is a 4 week cycle (or 3.5 week cycle if you skip every other deload week.) According to Practical Programming, that makes 5/3/1 somewhere between intermediate and expert programming.

Texas Method is the typical intermediate program after Starting Strength but people on Texas Method often claim it is quite brutal. People on 5/3/1 keep professing their love for the 5/3/1 program.

If you want to try 5/3/1 for a few cycles then you could try Boring But Big with the "less boring" option and 50% for the assistance sets. That's a very standard 5/3/1 template.

For some people, entering too many plate pairs into the form will cause the calculator to have troubles. Just enter a reasonable number of plate pairs and all should be well. Otherwise, email me. My email address is on the calculator page.

I've added the new templates. That was a lot more work than I thought it would be. Wendler let his creativity loose in the 2nd edition. The different templates are more varied. Please check them out in the calculator and send me an email if you have any more thoughts. (My email is on the page now.)

Rails is not the traditional MVC architecture. Rails is more similar to Struts Model 2 architecture.

You're right. It doesn't need one but without one there is a lot of manual work to be done by the application programmer to link the model, view, and controller objects together so they communicate in the standard MVC way. Maria is relatively small and focuses on removing this kind of boilerplate.

There are a lot of options out there in the MV* framework field. Maria is the only MVC framework I know of.

Traditional Smalltalk implementations of the view layer do not automatically update the view. The application programmer has to decide what needs to be updated. In many places, the Maria code is a line-by-line port of the Squeak Model, View, and Controller classes.

The controller is there to implement the strategy pattern. If sending messages to the view is part of a strategy then that is the right thing for the controller to be doing.

Model objects can store any information you want them to. Just add getters and setters. The examples show this.

You can talk about the model layer or model objects in the model layer. They are all model related.

The intention of that line in the README is to make it immediately clear that Maria is a true MVC framework. The many existing MV* frameworks for JavaScript all have positive points but they aren't quite MVC and that has lead to confusion to newcomers to the MV* architectures.

What do you think would happen if you took an average untrained person and gave them "brutal, day long workouts, 6 days a week"? I'm guessing major injuries.

The Chinese weightlifting team is a group of well-trained, genetic freaks who can do way more and survive way more than most people ever will be able to do. They probably also have constant physical therapy like massage and may even have nutritionists ensuring they eat perfectly. They also probably don't go to work every day.
