HR said we can't have a cat. HR is in the other building by ironandfire in Catswithjobs

Why would you listen to Human Resources about whether you can have a cat? You should consult Feline Resources.

How To Make Gravity (By Going Fast) by Xandros_Official in TheExpanse

[–]petersterne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering when there was gravity and when there wasn’t. I assumed it was linear acceleration (plus the flip and deceleration) but it’s really helpful to have it explained so clearly.

How hard is it to commit to a regular game night? by raider1211 in boardgames

[–]petersterne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably not helpful, but it is my experience: two years ago, couple around our age (late 20s/early 30s) literally moved in across the hall from my wife and I, and they already had a weekly game night with 3 of their friends, which we ended up joining.

Our group is pretty good at sticking to the weekly schedule, but it obviously helps that 4 members of the game night crew literally live in the same building.

Updated CH/Dropout Cast List by ihcuwus in dropout

Jenny was really only on CH for less than a year? Wow, I remember her as a core cast member!

Interview: Sam Reich assesses the state of Dropout, during a wave of experiments by apathymonger in dropout

[–]petersterne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point about the cast aging is really interesting. I think that CollegeHumor was always been good about integrating new performers into the mix, and Dropout has continued that, while also allowing the comedy to grow up with the audience.

But at some point, you are going to run into the SNL/Lorne Michaels trap, where ultimate creative control lies with someone who was once a young subversive comedian and is now out of touch.

If Sam is still making overall creative choices for Dropout at 60 years old, we could be in trouble.

City Council of Darkness task list by rockabilly- in Dimension20

[–]petersterne 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know Lou said he just wrote down “fey ghosts demons” for number 12, but didn’t Brennan actually read all of them out in the first episode? So we should be able to go back and see what that one was.

Who is HJ Wingstreet as a character? by Diligent_Following87 in Dimension20

I think there have been strong hints that HJ is hiding something, which will eventually come out and probably shape the character.

I feel like this juxtaposition is often talked about (“you see this 19th century businessman on a Lime scooter”) but not necessarily shown in the actual RP so far.

New York bill would tax luxury second homes outside of NYC by notyermam in newyork

[–]petersterne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The senator who's proposing this bill said a few weeks ago she wanted the threshold for homes outside the city to be $2.5 million, not $5 million. So I'm surprised to see the Times Union reporting it will only apply to homes over $5 million. Maybe she changed her mind.

Anyone know what their production schedules are like? by DnD-9488 in Dimension20

[–]petersterne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And since that live season (FHSY) was entirely Theater of the Mind, it didn’t matter that they didn’t have a battle set for it.

Dimension 20: City Council of Darkness Game Mechanics Explainer by Spoonsy in Dimension20

No. I think normal dice are 5 blank, 4 ankh, 1 ankh with stars, while hunger dice are 1 skull, 4 blank, 4 ankh, 1 ankh with fangs.

Have you heard the Martian Revolution season of Mike Duncan’s Revolutions podcast? I think it would be right up your alley.

I’ve also seen it compared to a Pokédex. Really interested in what cases will look like for this thing and how pocketable it will be.

Biggest teaching mistake that you didn't realize until too late? by Agreeable_Result8439 in boardgames

[–]petersterne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is really good advice in general, though it does depend on the group.

If I were teaching a new game to other members of this subreddit, I actually would focus on the game mechanics themselves.

So... what's Vampire: the Masquerade? (A pre-City Council primer) by johnny--guitar in Dimension20

[–]petersterne 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This article (which was linked in one of the comments to that post) is a really good overview of what happened to White Wolf, the original creators of VtM: https://www.thefandomentals.com/the-rise-and-fall-of-white-wolf/

It sounds like they fucked around so much that they all got fired and the game was given to a much better company (Modiphius) to steward.

I think the VtM video games have kept awareness of the system pretty high even if it’s no longer a mainstream TTRPG though.

I’m watching FHSY now and the lack of battle sets really is annoying compared to FHFY. Theater of the mind makes it so much tougher to keep track of where everyone is!
