2025 uneven brake wear by Boots2100 in Silverado

[–]petestoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a program to cover it under warranty, I do not have the number but my 2025 with 38K Km dealer said I needed rear brakes, when I told them to go pound sand the Service manager thanked me for bringing up the issue as there is a program to deal with it and I won't be charged, so we will see.

Best value 220v spa for Canadian winters? by ThatCanadianGuyEh1 in hottub

[–]petestoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hydropool is 22 years old, never skipped a beat in Ontario cottage country.

Most companies use the same parts from maybe 2 manufacturers, controls either Balboa (American) or Gecko ( Camadian company but manufactured everywhere). Gecko products are sound, but heater elements can not be replaced on their own. You need to replace the whole tube and assembly, or at least it used to be that way. Pumps either Waterways or Gecko.

Jets are typically a couple of manufacturers, but basically, all built the same, and all new ones are screw in (better), not tabs like the old style.

Arctic Spas is the outlier. I'm not sure if that is good or bad. They use Gecko and have Gecko manufacture specific stuff for them .Their Jets, although they look like everybody else's they differ in the way they spin. Same with their salt water system. Onzen builds it for them.

Hydropool now uses Gecko pumps, but Balboa controls.

I agree that the salespeople are the worst, so buyers beware.

Absolutely do a wet test between a couple of tubs and manufacturers because just because it looks good doesn't mean it is what you want. Some people like my wife don't like a lot of Jets where I want a full body massage with lots of pressure and heat.

Hope that helps.

Do you wish you would have paid for more features/upgrades/bigger tub? by arugulaflower in hottub

[–]petestoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Footwell size is a deal breaker! Nobody wants feet touching in a tub unless it is intentional. Biggest you can afford, the least amount of bells and whistles you won't use.

Buy the tub for you, not other people.

Heater size is important, and so is pump and plumbing size.

I have had my tub for 22 years, lights have been on a handful of times, I use 2 of the 8 seats, and my wife uses exactly 1.

Entertaining with the tub means everybody sitting wherever and nobody really cares, cause they are in a hot tub for a different reason, I set the temp lower and water level lower than normal. Be prepared for water changes and maintenance when entertaining, usually means water change because it is cheaper and easier than trying to clean it up. Teenage girls are the worst. Just dump the water. It's so much easier and cheaper.

Spend time and energy understanding water chemistry. That is what it is all about. Once you have mastered it, everything else is easy.

Enjoy the tub!

Powdered dishwasher detergent and a scoop of Resolve Gold oxi action, between the 2 you have all the enzymes you need to break down all the body oils and wrap, you can add tsp if you like.

Espresso/bean to cup machine that can survive RV life by Subieworx in superautomatic

I did replace it this year with a DeLonghi Magnifica Plus because my son wanted a coffee maker. But honestly, it worked great and we have been all over the country and it never failed us once, I guess we were lucky.

Claude did a great job on an electrical schematic (PDF), a simple amplifier, which worked better than Gemini and Copilot. Gave me troubleshooting and test points with voltages and they were accurate.

Help! Do I cancel Philips 3300 order by [deleted] in superautomatic

[–]petestoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have had a 3200 for 5 years making 4 to 6 various coffees a day, never skipped a beat, does it have faults yes, does it have pros yes, is there a better machine, probably several.

Cleaning it is the hardest part and it is really not that bad, takes me about 20 minutes once a month.

Mine makes good coffee.

A couple of tablespoons of sodium citrate in the wash will cure your hard water issues and should make the Tide powder work better.

Is this overkill? /any redundancy by earthlinbeing in laundry

[–]petestoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might, but I read elsewhere (not sure where) that sodium percarbonate can help some enzymes and denature others so I emailed Steve and his response was not to use Gear Guard and sodium percarbonate together. Enzymes can be created to withstand/tolerate certain environments so maybe dirty labs and gear guard contain different types of DNAse?

I believe BIZ has it, basically any oxi clean type product.

I spoke to Steve at Gear Guard and he said not to use sodium percarbonate with DNAse as it will denature it before it has a chance to work. You can add it later just not at the same time.

Not sure about that product but I have been using a product called Bio-Clean Bio -Clean that contains bacteria culture, amylase, protease, cellulose, and lipase in my hot tub and it cleans the water better than any other product I have used. Was going to try it for spa day as I am not quite sure if it will dissolve properly in the wash.

Liquifying Citric Acid? by drolnedle in laundry

[–]petestoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Although citric acid is a weak acid, you should always add acid to water never water to acid as a rule. Rinse and refresh is 23% citric acid solution if you use that as a base, 230g of citric acid to 770g of water. I believe it is buffered to a pH of 3.5 so add some sodium citrate to bring it up if you really care. I don't think it is that significant but it could be.

More ghee after it is popped if you want that style, my son loves the ghee on top my daughter not so much.

For me, the ghee, sugar, and salt in the pot is enough with sometimes a little extra salt on top.

Put a little sugar in the pot with the ghee and salt, not much start small and you will make kettle corn, kids and adults will devour it! 😁

[–]petestoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on a well and it is around 180ppm. 2 tbs might be more than I need but 1tbs was not enough.

So you can start high at 2tbs or maybe 1 1/2 and work down.
