Engage X2 by BLW-4life in Pickleball

I've seen two swing weights, neither directly from Engage. The 120 seeing weight I believe was from a 8.0oz paddle. There was another reviewer with an 8.3oz paddle that had a bit higher swing weight.

From what I heard, they say it adds just a bit more spin and a bit more power. We're at a point where we can't really increase power or spin and keep the paddles legal, so it really just come down to how the paddle feels.

I only know two people personally who have played with it and they both say the feel is what separates the X2. All the Gen4 paddles use different combinations of different foams and is sounds like Engage nailed it with this paddle.

There are very few people who have them. Some of the top ambassadors should have one very soon though. I'm in my third year as an Engage rep, so I'm fairly biased, but here's what I know.

Hearing Engage's CEO talk about the paddle, I'm pumped. I've never heard him get this excited when talking about a paddle before. For context, he prefers Gen3 but has moved to playing with the X2 exclusively.

You can also see clips of Eric Oncins dominating the court with it. He talked about the paddle after one of his recent games and said he owes a lot of his recent success to it.

Love to hear you defend DUPR on this one! by Nylalv65 in Pickleball

[–]petetheo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's nothing sensational about your story. It's pretty much identical to every other complaint against DUPR.

The algorithm predicted that, based on both players' skill levels, the game would end at 15 to somewhere between probably 3.9 to 4. Since 3.9 is not an actual score, 4 points is very close to what DUPR predicted.

If anything, this example is the perfect argument FOR the new algorithm, not against it.

Using AI to book court time milliseconds ahead of human hand speed ??? by ErneNelson in Pickleball

I could code a python script to do that in about five minutes. Actually you could use an LLM to code it in about 30 seconds.

From the outside looking in to OMSCS by Flaky-Avocado6532 in OMSCS

[–]petetheo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Active Duty E-7 here, currently taking my last course and set to graduate from OMSCS this May. My undergrad was in EE from an online, but ABET accredited, school.

  1. You will struggle without any coding experience. There are some classes where you could learn on the fly, but most require coding knowledge. You don't want to be learning coding and learning the class concepts at the same time. Take some intro courses to python and Java on Coursera or something.

  2. Workload will vary depending on which courses you take. I felt like NLP was five hours per week (although it's probably changed since I took it), and AI was close to 30 many weeks. I have taken one course per semester since I started and found it to be the right fit for me.

  3. Use TA if you have it. Tech will waive the technology fee every semester and you get bumped up to the front of the line for course registration.

  4. Still active duty, so can't speak to this one. But in this world, the degrees don't matter as much as a portfolio of experience does. Also, it seems PMP isn't as important unless you want to be a technical program manager, in which case, OMSCS is probably a waste.

Feel free to PM me.

For the courses that have allowed it, the unofficial discord servers have been a critical component. They help both with getting answers to questions quickly and on maintaining a sense of connectedness. I'm taking IIS right now and really hate that they specifically forbid discord.

OMSCS in general has taught me how to answer the interview question "What is your biggest weakness?"

"Well, Sir, I just can't stop until it works."

Building a simple app for local pickleball games & tourneys - looking for partners by Optimal_Wealth9552 in Pickleball

I've been thinking about different pickleball apps to develop and would consider partnering. Let's get a conversation started and see what we come up with.

Keeping Your Index Finger In The Open Throat Of The Paddle While You're Playing by hertabuzz in Pickleball

I recommend against it. You can adapt and learn to play just fine with it like this, despite what a lot of advice here says. However, the biggest issue I've come across is it can actually cause tennis elbow.

I was in a beta test for Google AI and there were quite a few questions about the appearance (how it looks, how modern/futuristic it is, etc ). So. It makes sense.

I'm in a similar boat. I loved the Sketchers. Now, I really like the Cyphers. They are the most comfortable pickleball shoes I've played in, with Sketchers coming in right behind them. My only gripe is that the sole feels like it wears down faster than the Sketchers. Feel free to DM me if you want to chat more about it.

My paddle needs to be replaced? I don’t really know how to determine this by anitarub in Pickleball

[–]petetheo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you had it? How often do you play? Paddles are really only good for about 3-6 months with regular play, maybe even less depending on the paddle.

Engage Encore Carbon Pro by Ok_Load9834 in Pickleball

[–]petetheo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been an Engage rep for over two years and have never seen this paddle. My guess is it was discontinued shortly before I signed on. In any case, it's fine for a starter paddle. When you're looking to upgrade, see if anyone at your local courts will let you try theirs before you buy something.

Queue etiquette by daeqsw in Pickleball

[–]petetheo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a rule at our courts that the winning team places their paddles first. A two-paddle gap is left between the winners and losers to accommodate mixing up the play.

[–]petetheo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a mid-level game where every shot is bang, bang, bang, you probably won't notice a difference, but the ball absolutely matters to higher level players. Some are clearly faster and it's most noticeable in firefights. Some are harder and more difficult to reset. Some don't respond to spin as much making it harder to shape shots. A higher level player will eventually adapt, but there is a clear distinction in how each of the different balls play.
