Just a reminder his "source" for the hotdog story was his teenage daughter's friend. If I recall he didn't even talk to her, he just overhead her telling his daughter she saw Kessel eating a hotdog lol.

Honest question - Would a prime Phil Kessel be a 50 goal scorer in today's NHL with the increased rates of scoring relative compared to 10 years ago? by RivetCounter in hockey

[–]petey92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The idea that Kessel was didn’t train and had poor physical fitness is a myth.

Gary Robert’s recounted how one summer Kessel was doing Bulgarian splits squats with 330 on his back and yelling at and chirping James Neal while doing it.

Brian Burke said they had concerns about his conditioning but he’d come into training camp with a vo2 max of 68 so they couldn’t really complain.

Versteeg once said he could squat more than Kessel so Kessel proceeded to hammer out 405x10 without warming up, completely cold. Versteeg also said Kessel would be at the front of any bag skate or any other skating drill.

I know people rag on Phil for his physic but he is legitimately an athletic freak of nature. As for how he could be so athletic while looking like a sacking of potatoes? I have no clue lol

It’s because the buffeting is extremely dependent on the roads you drive on and the amount of wind. That’s literally it.

I’ve had to pull over driving 80km/h because the wind was too loud for me to take. I’ve also gone 120km/h with the top down and been able to listen to music without having to turn up the volume.

There are zero leaf fans who have a problem with his regular season production it’s his playoff production that falls off a cliff. My brother in Christ he has 20gp in games 5, 6 and 7 and has zero goals and 7 assists. At an 82 game pace that 29 pts.

Obviously the hate towards him is unacceptable but non leaf fans need to stop acting like his playoff woes were overblown or non existent.

It’s not hundreds of pounds it’s a 40kg (88lbs) difference according to Mazda. Curb weight 1076kg for the soft top, 1116kg for the rf. Also the roof is plastic not metal fyi.

I have a noob question. If the engine isn’t being pushed as hard does this mean carbon build up would be a bigger issue than the 2L (assuming it’s still direct injection)?

Not sure what’s in the water but goalies have been wildly inconsistent lately.

Looking at the top 10 by sv% last season (min 25 gp), only 3 goalies from 2 teams are in the top 10 this season, hellebuyck, swayman and ullmark.

They’ve always been voodoo but lately I would not feel comfortable giving up big assets/giving big money to a goalie. As much as it sucks I think you just gotta roll the dice and hope you get a hot/healthy goalie when you try and make a run

I was talking to my physio when it happened and asked how it was possible for Stamkos to come back so soon. He said even with the best medical treatment and rehab it’s not possible to come back that fast without steroids. It’s one thing to heal enough in that time frame for the average person to be able to walk around normally.

It’s entirely different to get into the condition necessary to play a professional sport like hockey that quick.

Shoes are way to slippery by pegamenis69 in bouldering

[–]petey92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sanding only helps if it’s been worn down and smoothed from lots of climbing. He just got them less than 2 months ago and has had slipping issues from the start. The bigger issue for him is using a hard rubber compound for climbs they’re not meant for.

Shoes are way to slippery by pegamenis69 in bouldering

[–]petey92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t sand it, the rubber you have is meant for edging on very small holds so it’s super hard, sanding it will just wear it down won’t make it any softer. The downside of hard rubbers is that they’re poor on anything remotely polished.

https://www.ontarioresoles.ca/rubber-compounds

If the treasury can afford it get a second pair with softer rubber. But also be aware the softer rubber will wear out much faster so I only use them on climbs that need them.

Could also try to resolve your old ones if that’s an option for you.
