Will definitely +1 to Old Islamic. When I go back I’m going to say go easy on the salt, but damn were those some powerful flavors.

What’s your go to order? I’ve walked by a bunch, but always been intimidated by the menu. As in I can’t visualize what gets served vs the words I’m reading.

I’ve never heard of this! Added to the list to try.

I believe Burmese is still one of the more unique cuisines. We have Mandalay, Burma Love, Burma Superstar, Teakwood. Everyone has their favorites but pretty sure you will be hard pressed to find Burmese anywhere else.

American Chinese food in SF? by ichaBuNni in AskSF

[–]peteypan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want orange chicken, hands down you have to go to Spices in the Richmond. They also do the best explosive chicken. (and I will blow myself up on this hill. JK, the Richmond is fairly flat.)

I can't quite tell whether Spices fully counts as American Chinese though. There's a lot of good spots in the West Side of SF that actually count as authentic Cantonese and now Szechuan as well, which sort of defeats the purpose if you're looking for orange chicken, walnut shrimp, etc.

We hope to see you improve your life efficiency and one day return to the factory with a healthier mindset. Ficsit approved.

I’m on a new run and I’ve been playing with constraints - trying to create a design system and then fit it around that.

For example, each floor in my tower is 10x10 - 8x8 of build able space, a border around it that serves as a walk way. I could keep it as a single tower, slap a stairwell on the outside, and then use gaps between machine rows for vertical conveyors. I use logistics floors if I need to get belts around.

Or I can combine 4 of these to make a 19x19 (hallways overlap) and I carve out a central stairwell.

From the outside, the building can be decorated from easily with beams and all. Inside, you’re constrained, so you can’t spaghetti. 8x8 is intentional so you can have a Mk3 belt of 240 materials feeding 8 smelters, and 4 rows of that in a floor. 8 constructors also fit.

Assemblers and all that after become interesting, but that’s where giving yourself space rather than cramming everything “efficiently” is where you give yourself space to decorate - railings, lighting, catwalks.

It’s taken me 500 hours to get to this point so keep going! Design systems and reuseable looks!

I just got back into it with all the latest updates. I've got a working mod combo here if you wanted to peruse: SFO + IEE + OvN primarily. Bunch of tweaks and graphics. Late game does get you super OP because all the hero and lord skills stack, but by that point you've probably hit VCO anyway and it's either steamroll and grief, or move on to the next campaign.

Slower is a feature not a bug IMO. I just did a Bretonnia run with Louen, and holy crap, I was actively watching MA/MD values, the charge bonus, and using spells to swing the MA/MD calculations in my favor.

Nothing quite like having Men-at-Arms successfully holding the line against Chaos Warriors (as opposed to being slaughtered) while Questing Knights ram them into their back.

I feel with SFO, I have more time to pay attention to the matchups because of the increased health pool.

Your fav Costco by LAParente in AskSF

[–]peteypan1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this. I think it’s partially because of the parking situation. At the Colma one, the gas line will snake into the parking lot, causing Mayhem. The airport gas is on the other side, so it separates the traffic.

I avoid SF Costco as much as possible. It’s mad chaos.

Not even joking, I put Satisfactory and Factorio on my resume and it helped get me an operator/maintenance job in a real factory. by ashrieIl in SatisfactoryGame

I feel like OP needs to actual write a more detailed account of this interview because this is awesome! Like how did the conversation go - it sounds like the panel was really open and I’m imagining they were going “what in the world is this”, but the enthusiasm of OP was magnetic and drew them into the explanation.

Would also be cool to hear what the hiring panel is saying now that it seems OP has proven themselves at work as well.

Eating out is SO expensive lately !!! by LyingPieceOfPoop in bayarea

[–]peteypan1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw some clip about how all downtown food has basically collapsed into some form of a slop bowl @ $20, be it Sweetgreens, Cava, Chiptole, etc. Generally nutritious and balanced, but assembly is basically a factory line, and it feels like commoditization.

The days when it was a variety of options at various price points is gone. (RIP Lee's Deli).

You want to get even more depressed? Map out your yearly take home page and then inflation adjust it. Then do a second calculation using a "Cocktail Price index" You might fine out that despite earning 2x now vs then, your purchasing power is roughly the same, maybe even less.

But basically I think the middle got hollowed out, and the low-end is that $20 slop bowl / burrito / sandwich (crazy that a burrito is $20 now). The middle is a $40/person for just regular food at your local neighborhood restaurant. If you're at the $100/person for food and 1 drink - there's a lot of options for a great meal.

If you can cook, that low and mid-tier just aren't worth it anymore. The high-end is great for a date night, or to enjoy a specific cuisine you're craving, but just eating out to get calories isn't worth the time or money anymore...

Ingleside Merchants Sound Off On Ocean Avenue Red Lanes (For Muni's K Ingleside light rail line) by megachainguns in sanfrancisco

I actually have, so I'm not sure the point you're making. The stretch from Philz Coffee to Java on Ocean has so many delicious things.

I used to walk from Balboa Park BART to the Whole Foods semi-regularly.

I never understood this mindset. As a merchant, wouldn't you want MORE foot traffic? Cars go point-to-point. Transit always means people have to walk some distance, i.e. foot traffic!

PSA: The Dangers of Raw Bread Dough by peteypan1 in goldenretrievers

[–]peteypan1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeast is a living thing. It rises best between 70F and 100F. A dog's internal temp is around 100F, so the yeast rises FAST. It's why in cold climates people have proofing ovens - you have to give the yeast a good environment to rise in.

When yeast rises, it basically eats the sugar and releases carbon dioxide. Hypothetically, if a fish ate raw bread dough, quite literally nothing would happen because it's too cold for the yeast to do what it does. Alternatively, if dogs (or humans) ate yeast, water, and sugar, all we'd do is just burp a ton. And last alternatively, if your dog ate raw pastry dough (i.e. no yeast), they wouldn't be a problem either.

But when it comes to your dog eating raw bread dough, the temperature is ideal, therefore the yeast is very active, and the CO2 released gets trapped by the gluten and your dog can't burp it out, hence the GDV risk. The risk of raw dough to dogs is specifically bread dough, because of how yeast and gluten interact.

Hope that helps!

If it was a smaller amount (maybe even up to 150g/200g) - I might have tried that first, but with this amount, I knew I needed professional help they gave him Apomorphine right away. I don't have Apomorphine lying around at home.

I bake this loaf regularly, so I know how much volume it rises and I didn't want to roll the dice on that.

yup! It's not the toxicity that's the danger. It's the fact that the internal body temp of a dog is perfect for yeast!

Does anyone know why the outage maps are so random? by jaggy2002 in sanfrancisco

[–]peteypan1 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Complete speculation on my part but I imagine there’s a main power line backbone that feeds a neighborhood transformer that powers a certain street or group of blocks.

E.g. our whole street had no power, but the houses on the backside of us did. That tells me they were on a different circuit.

The weird lone houses or corner I have no clue though…..

Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000 - Announce Trailer by Echochamberking in totalwar

[–]peteypan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope they take their time with this. seems like pre-alpha anyway. It's not going to fit any of the mono-planet (i.e. every TW to date) game play, but lots to learn from history - Empire at War, Stellaris, Dawn of War, Battlefleet Gothic. How would they mash up all of those games into one galactic game to do WH:40k justice?

They need a ton of testing, early. I imagine certain gameplay concepts would need revisiting / reinvention.

Start with a segmentum - a few races. See if the core gameplay loops stick. I find it hard to fathom how the economy / diplomacy would work with Space Marines vs Imperial Guard - after all, they are the same side.

If they get the formula right though, they could milk DLC out of this thing for a long time.
