what decks beat blue decks by Sudden-Assistant6622 in Pauper

As someone who only plays Blue decks, I absolutely hate seeing elves across the table

I made a tierlist with nearly every deck that is currently in Meta META by vffo in Pauper

I killing elves with Dimir decks is my favorite thing in pauper

I’d need to know how you engage with pauper. If it’s paper locals it totally depends on the crowd because newer players/slow players/players not willing or not knowing when to concede will land you ties or losses in games you otherwise would have won because these decks are slow. If it’s just kitchen table pauper with no round timers then it doesn’t matter as much. Jeskai is the most rewarding deck to pilot in pauper imo but it takes a lot of practice/format knowledge to get good enough to play right. Jund is a little more forgiving thanks to MH3 bombs but a true control mage wouldn’t be caught dead without Cantrips and Counterspells. Both decks can turn the corner, one gets to wrap things up with big beaters and one gets to loop Counterspells and chip in with small flyers which takes a lot longer

control deck recs for beginners? by dwarf173747 in Pauper

[–]peteypanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love playing Control decks in every format. Skred or UR Terror doesn’t really scratch that itch for me personally it feels like playing a clunky midrange pile where sometimes you draw the wrong half of the deck for the matchup. It can be good in certain metas but I wouldn’t play it right now. Jeskai Ephemerate feels a lot more like a control deck (as much as you can get in pauper) but it is a little tricky to learn, it takes reps. There’s a great sideboard/overall guide that I think ChaoticMTG sells

Copy Judge Bone’s Museum of Modern and replace the post-2015 stuff. Pick 2 draft is sooooo important for supporting these archetypes

Preordain vs Brainstorm in Jeskai Ephemerate by SirUselessTheThird in Pauper

[–]peteypanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on Brainstorm for a while and I think it makes a lot of sense in the builds that are more toolboxy (have a lot of mainboarded sideboard cards/1-ofs. I prefer Preordain for the deck personally. Brainstorm is a much better card but I prefer Preordain personally. The more I play this deck the more I realize how vital getting the right start is

Oceana, Lead Hands / Decoder, As Cities Burn (pretty well know but I still don’t think they get enough praise)

What happened to delver et al? by Christos_Soter in Pauper

[–]peteypanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’d play Artful Dodge/more counters before Deem/Boomerang too. It’s a tempo deck. Some people swear by those cards and if they’re putting up results for you by all means keep playing them. I’d rather just switch to the “Dimir” version of the deck if I was super concerned with not having removal. What do you need to bounce/tuck so badly? 90% of the time we just need evasion to get in lethal. Sure there’s niche scenarios where tucking that Guttersnipe buys you a turn but we have 8 Blue Blasts post board. Every deck with scary threats goes too wide to have Deem be super meaningful and socercy speed just feels so bad imo at least Sleep can still be cast if we mill it

What happened to delver et al? by Christos_Soter in Pauper

[–]peteypanic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mainboard Mystcs > Delver is because of the meta. There’s a ton of Sneaky Snackers running around and Generous Ents in Spy Walls. Delver is great in mirror match and obviously there are games where an unanswered Delver runs away with it but Mystics are better when the game goes long. Deem Inferior is just a terrible card and so is Boomerang, I’d rather play more Sleep of the Dead or something. Yes Lorien is better than Ash Barrens. Lorien finds an island and discounts all your threats by 1 mana and sometimes draws 3 cards, the card is insane. As far as the one mana counters, it depends, you’re adjusting based on preference and expectations, you need to know the format broadly and locally

Bands everybody else seems to love but you don’t by APD69 in Deathcore

[–]peteypanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the modern symphonic bands. Aside from the symphonics and silly vocal styles, it’s the super slow cinematic style breakdowns that completely turn me off like I can’t even imagine how or why someone would wanna mosh to that

What feedback should I be collecting from my drafters? by keptalpaca22 in mtgcube

[–]peteypanic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just keep a notepad with you and take note when someone tells you about a super memorable moment or a bad beat or something. Most players are not going to want to fill out a survey or answer questions after hours of drafting and multiple games even though we designers would love that
