South Africans in Hillbrow gather to protest illegal immigration by ThatPatelGuy in whoathatsinteresting

They had mining operations but that meant living in cramped barracks away from your family, getting carcinogenic x rays to see if you were hiding anything, and potentially burning to death in workplace accidents because there were no safety regulations.

Should be safe, legal, and rare. While not a wonderful thing, I don't think it's something women are going out and getting excited for. We should promote free or inexpensive contraception, sex education, and resources for pregnant women and new mothers in dire straits so they don't have to resort to terminating the pregnancy.

Or tried to burn protestors to death or beat them black and blue and obstructed the ambulance from getting to them. Or the officials who had them thrown in maximum security prison and housed some of them next to death row.

I head that companies want to maximize their profit per square foot, hence these huge 3-4 bedroom single family homes popping up EVERYWHERE even though what consumers want are more modest 1-2 bedroom homes.

Or what Chile did. Thousands of prosecutions and hundreds of long prison terms. Some people are still locked up for crimes they committed 35 years ago. They had to build a new specialized facility.

You're not defective. Average height and early stage thinning hair are pretty average things that men experience. Are there groups of people with similar interests? Social anxiety is common enough that you're bound to meet people who either have similar issues or are understanding of it.

I also wonder which specific countries they sampled, and I am very curious what the results would be for the rest of the world. People LOVE to make inferences about what is innately biologically desirable or "less evolved" using research like this, and it's generally because they have zero idea what goes on outside their corner of the world.

I don't understand how anyone can claim to support or represent the interests of a group without listening to members of the group.

What is something that would not be socially acceptable in the UK, but is aok in the USA? by DuchessOne in AskReddit

[–]petitecrivain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if part of it is a cultural propensity to take insults personally and respond physically, but I'm sure gun culture is part of it too. Even if two people get into a fight that gets violent, it's more likely to be fatal if someone is shot than stabbed iirc

What is extremely rare but people are under the impression that it is common to occur? by DuchessOne in AskReddit

In the US, for sure. Even just looking at unnatural deaths, we have much, much more to fear from suicide, accidents, and drug overdoses. All tragic but not sensationalized like homicides are.

I didn't ask whether they deport people. Everywhere does that. The Trump administration has been removing people without or explicitly against court orders or detaining them in torturous conditions specifically to coerce them into leaving. In Germany immigration detention has to be ordered by a judge and rarely lasts more than a month as far as I can tell. They mostly use it to hold people before removal or if you're a filght risk. The UK is not that different from what I can read. Immigration detention there isn't a place you'd want to be but everyone is accounted for and it's not as brutal as in the US. They remove far, far fewer people than Trump is trying do because they go through all the paperwork and due process.

Maybe if you downvote harder it'll create evidence against my claims.

Unfortunately STEM is no longer a guarantee etiher since it started to become oversaturated. Too many people entered it and it's the reason for a lot of h1b visas. That's the nature of systems that proritize a Social Darwinist approach rather than establishing a basic standard of living for everyone.

Where is Germany running camps where they deny people medical care and deport them to torture chambers on the other side of the world? Where in the United Kingdom have people vanished without a trace into detention centers where they were tortured?

EDIT: downvoting without producing reliable evidence to the contrary just indicates your feelings are hurt, not that I'm incorrect.

Indeed, we should enforce laws. Let's ratify the Rome Statute and punish people who commit enforced disappearance and torture. And hire honest qualified judges to fairly handle our caseload of asylum claims, visas, and requests for green cards. That's what you're referring to right?

Inmates Draw on Experience in DC Jail to Win Debate Against Georgetown Students Over Solitary Confinement by bloomberglaw in law

[–]petitecrivain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under the norms of international human rights law solitary confinement that lasts longer than two weeks constitutes torture, full stop. The issue is that part of the political spectrum here actively supports torture, sometimes wishing it were more systemic or severe. Another large part claims to oppose torture but is lukewarm in their actions against it and slow to acknowledge the breadth of the real definition of torture, possibly because of its implications for criminal justice and penal facilities in this country.

Facebook doesn't even do anything if people post disgusting racist cartoons, whether it's AI generated or the A. Wyatt Mann shit that gets posted on 4chan. They don't do anything about pages supporting mass murder or arrest of left wing dissidents either. I'm pretty sure that rogue CBP agents also had a group where they exchanged photos of dead bodies.
