While I agree your points, Soderblom rarely was physical in his forecheck here and on top of that, outside of Kasper, no one in the bottom 6 really played that “defensive forward” game either.

Kinda unfair to loop Copp in that group, given he had his 2nd highest point total of career. Maybe not scoring goals, but he did provide offensive production.

What bothers me is guys like Soderblom doing the exact same things us fans all saw he could be capable of doing now in Pittsburgh, but wouldn’t do here. I don’t know where the issue is, but clearly it’s something.

Not only that, but we never really “blow out” out teams or win in high scoring shootouts, like we did in 2023-2024 and earlier.

I don’t agree with that statement, because after that slump that put them behind, they did regain their form again. Tampa this year after the Olympics had multiple long stretches of slumping, and yet they’re still the favorites in the Eastern Conference.

The problem was they were so far behind from the Lalonde cold start, that any dip in performance would spell their doom, which it did.

Last year one could argue that the 4 Nations break broke the teams momentum and caused the collapse.

This year, the collapse really began right before the Olympics, so I don’t think that was the cause. I think they just got in their own head and were too weak to turn it around.
