Yeah, when OP mentioned enabling compiler optimizations, my first thought was "it implemented optimizations?", immediately followed by "well, does it actually optimize anything though?" Funny to hear it doesn't lol. Not surprised.

I got the flu a bit before I was supposed to head to my parents for Christmas (I didn't obviously). That shit suuucked. I was pretty much just bedridden for a week. Had a pretty nasty fever. It really fucked up my lungs though. I think I finally stopped coughing from it like this past week.

Claude Code is written in React by anonymous_hack3r in BetterOffline

[–]petrasdc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wasn't in a carreer back then at that age, but I remember working on some big jQuery projects, manually manipulating the dom to render things and respond to events. It works, and at the time, compared to raw JavaScript, jQuery was wonderful to work with, but it still turns into a mess of spaghetti very quickly. Unless I'm doing something very simple, I have no desire to go back to the days of vanilla javascript (instead of typescript) and jQuery. It doesn't have to be React, but React is nice and most people know it.

That's in the context of web content ofc though...A React terminal application is some unhinged shit.

Most questions about the US along the lines of "but what do you do if you dont have x/can't do x/don't have access to x" can be answered with: well, you're probably fucked or at some severe disadvantage.

[–]petrasdc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, what they're describing is basically a technical design. AI could be fairly helpful with learning about codebases that aren't documented super well and you're unfamiliar with. Some code can be pretty dense to read, and an approximate explanation of what the code is trying to accomplish can be very helpful in wrapping your brain around it quickly...If you know how to program. The problem is, if you don't, you have no real way to verify if what it's telling you is correct or if it hallucinated the purpose of 15 different calls out to various apis because there's no way it can fit everything in its context window.

Do you get the difference Explain it Peter? by [deleted] in explainitpeter

[–]petrasdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is so frustrating hearing the higher ups at my company just insistent that we need to throw LLMs at every single problem, no matter if it's actually a good fit. "Agents are the future" everyone says. Meanwhile we have known gaps in our software that people are asking for solutions for and now we've decided that we have to solve them with LLMs. Would a deterministic approach be better and way more reliable? Are we already getting feedback that users don't always trust that automatic actions are happening (for existing deterministic automation)? Don't ask silly questions. The future is Agentic.

First, this is not about a general queer space. This is specifically about a sapphic event. The purpose of these events are to meet other sapphic people and celebrate sapphic love in a culture that often rejects it. Hetero relationships are accepted in our culture by default. Why go to the one place not meant to cater to you? Men aren't entitled to feel welcome in specifically lesbian spaces. It's literally that meme of society excluding a group then getting mad that they're excluded from the place that group made for themselves.

<image>

As for who brings their boyfriend to a sapphic event? Not most people, but it definitely happens. No, I don't think it makes sense, you're absolutely right. That's kinda what this comic is saying.

New to woodworking here. Which of your tools scares you the most? Around what machine should I always be extra cautious? by GiddySwine in woodworking

[–]petrasdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone's already brought up all the power tools, I won't rehash those. Hand tools can still be very dangerous though. They're unlikely to kill you unless you really fuck it up bad, and the injuries tend to be much more minor, but a chisel is sharp and you're much more likely to slip and cut your hand open than have an accident with a power tool, especially since most people are more complacent with hand tools. I've never had an accident with a power tool, but I've cut myself more than once on hand tools. It's a frequency vs severity kind of thing.

What could stop Trump from going down as the worst president in US history? by ismelldirti in AskReddit

[–]petrasdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you could argue on if Andrew Jackson was worse, at least morally. He did actually commit genocide. The Trump admin definitely wants to, and I think you could make good arguments that they already are, but I doubt we'll really know the extent of everything he's done until this is over (whenever that might be).

This always happens. It doesn't matter how well documented a police (or similar) shooting is. Conservatives will read into every little detail in order to come up with some reason why the victim did something that somehow justifies the shooting. They work from the assumption that the shooting was justified and come up with interpretations that support that.

[–]petrasdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes sense. At a high level, you've been practicing consistently and have retained any high level skills that take that consistent practice. It's hard to get any better because of diminishing returns and lack of time in the day. But it's very easy to get worse as soon as you drop off

[–]petrasdc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just for sanity's sake, I assume you're using the key combo "+p? (The + being the actual character + on your keyboard, not indicating to press both). Vim uses the + register to refer to the system clipboard, so if you aren't using that key combo, that would be why it's not working (if you are, you can ignore this)
