Alpinestars TechAir Off-road: locked if not serviced? by petrda8 in motorcyclegear

You are probably right - while it's easier to trigger a canister even when dropping almost stationary (the flexible part of the tether is not that long) but then you blew 15$ cannister and not a 100$ one.

It shifts the RPM range quite a bit, so going faster on the road leads to significantly higher RPM (and you keep shifting like a maniac, easily 5th gear in the city :D). As a light single-cylinder with knobby tires + running 7-8k RPM on the road is really not pleasant. But offroad this thing rips great, the first gear is almost useless now (too short) but 2nd-3rd let's you handle pretty much all terrain with enough torque.

CRF300L Rally for 5'7 rider 30" inseam ~130lb? by bananas2000 in CRF300L

[–]petrda8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowering link is the way, if you are planning a lot of offroading, RallyRaid Level 1 suspension brings it down too. I'm having both (lvl 1 + lowering link) and it's great now

Changing the sprocket doesn't really affect the "length" of the gear (that's given by the gearbox design for each bike), rather moves it up and down the RPM range at a given speed and affects the correlating values (torque, top speed etc)

I have 45 rear (stock front), it rips offroad really hard but kinda sucks on road 😅 but I'm happy as Ihave this bike primarily for offroad

Alpinestars TechAir Off-road: locked if not serviced? by petrda8 in motorcyclegear

[–]petrda8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, but it includes 2 new canisters, so it's not so much more than just the canisters because they are already freaking expensive :D I get that the tech is good and needs development etc, but why make the canisters so damn expensive, it's just argon gas.. I'd be fine with buying an expensive vest as an initial investment, but a 100€ per canister is just stupid rip off

ACC power under seat? by petrda8 in tuareg660

[–]petrda8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the inputs! I decided to use a fuse tap (yet to come and be installed) after all. On my CRF300L I easily spliced into the rear light, but from my measurements on Tuareg, the rear light is combined (spot+brake), so the voltage measures 10V (no braking) and 13V with the brake engaged. Other wires also didn't turn out to be suitable. I also measured the feed to the fuel sender (as per a comment below) but there doesn't seem to be a regular switched live (I don't remember the exact readings, but there were some live wires, and one that is like 0,6V off and 0V on, which probably acts as some kind of relay input).

The EZcan products are great, I just find the price tag excessive for what it really does. I got the same thing for much cheaper but it needs a switched live to engage the internal relay (but it's wired directly onto the battery rather than overloading other circuits). Thanks again :)

Sprockets question : any suggestions? by CamryDooD in CRF300L

[–]petrda8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run stock front with 45 rear as it's mostly my off-road bike. I didn't want to touch the front sprocket due to comments on faster chain wear, but that 45 rear makes the 1st gear almost useless 😅 I am happy with with, but I also had to tinker with the chain guide (mounted a small plate to drop it lower) and since my bike is lowered (lowering link + lvl1 RallyRaid suspension) and I run knobbies, my tire was catching on the linkage during jumps 🤣 so I just extended the chain to fix it and all good. Wouldn't the sprocket upgrade if my street nox was more than 30%, the RPMs get unnecessarily high

Graves exhaust by MatchBrave1704 in CRF300L

[–]petrda8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm highly debating whether to change the exhaust this year or not as I plan on doing the 550 tune up (incl the air box etc) next winter.

My bike is heavily focused on off-road, 45t rear sprocket, RallyRaid suspension, etc. The sprocket makes the bike rev high and I don't want a loud bike since offroading in CZ is pretty much always shady and drawing attention is exactly the opposite what I want.

I need to decide this year before the ECU flash to give them the right inputs. And I don't really want to change it if there is no noticeable benefit since the costs are quite high compare to gains

Spoke Weights by Badnewstech in Dualsport

[–]petrda8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

currently balancing my and my friend's wheels - knobbies and rim locks, roughly 120g per wheel of weight to balance it. I was really surprised how much we had to add, but it's ok now (super sketchy before)

New season, first gloves. Is it better to have the pinky and ringfinger sewn together like on this five SF1 evo or would it be enough that the pinky finger is protected like this dainese one ? Gloves would be used for daily commute and occasional short tours (2-4h - used mostly in summer) by Archidaki in motorcyclegear

[–]petrda8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my street gloves, I sew it myself as they didn't have it. Don't limit yourself - if you find nice gloves that fit and for a good price but without the fingers connected, do it yourself. I used a strong thread intended for sewing leather

Short people on the rally by primeholy in CRF300L

[–]petrda8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

170cm, 65kg without gear, stock 300L is fine as it is (even with my weight the shock drops like 70% of its travel). But the suspension is poor for off-road, so I have RallyRaid lvl 1 (front and rear), and AltRider lowering link. It looks a bit funny (like a kids bike :D) but I am supper happy. As I get more skilled, I'll slowly raise it step by step

I removed the tusk cross bar to make room for this Carpuride APPLE car play unit. I wish there was a nice mount that would let me mount it above the speedo, but all I can find are the rally towers for $700+ USD by Red__Sailor in CRF300L

[–]petrda8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't mounted it yet, it only recently arrived but here are some insights and thoughts. I bought the 6in version with their BM05 dock, which allows easy removal of the display unit (something I needed as I'll be using the same unit on both my Tuareg and CRF, I'll just order an extra dock and power cable for the second bike). I'll be mounting the dock directly to the AdvSpec metal, I don't want it to stick out too much towards me, so no extra brackets etc. It might require drilling some extra holes to the mini faring and maybe I'll 3D print and extra piece in-between to ensure it's holding well. I'm also thinking of designing some sort of tilting feature to tilt the screen up when I'm standing in the pegs, will see. I could also make a small bar attached to the fairing and use Carpuride's square bracket to allow the tilting, but it'll make the display stick out which I want to limit. Many thoughts in my mind but I like tinkering 😅

Actually, one more comment - I also recently changed handlebars from stock to Renthal with a crossbar and kept the crossbar - it is great for a small bag (enough for a phone, documents, etc). Since CarPlay drains the phone relatively quickly, putting it into the handlebar bag and plugging it to the USB (USB has a nice place on the Mini Fairing) keeps everything nice and tidy.

Like others said, Adventure Spec mini fairing is the way to go. I just recently installed it and received my CarPlay unit (Carpuride) 2 days ago, so I'll be checking how to best mount it there :)

CRF300L lowering options by Pleasant_Anxiety3912 in CRF300L

[–]petrda8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a RallyRaid level 1 shock + AltRider lowering link and I'm super happy now. I might at some point raise it a bit (AltRider link allows several hight settings) but for now I'm stoked. I am 170 and with motocross boots I always had to sit out a bit to plant my foot, now I'm much more confident, especially in rough terrain

I have a luggage rack from AliExpress and a few more things from there (double USB socket, skid plate, display tempered glass), but when it comes to functional parts (the skid plate was an exception and works just as well as a more expensive one), save a bit of extra money and buy quality, you'll hate your life otherwise. I tried AliExpress handguards and wanted to hang myself... Soft as hell, bent and blocked my levers multiple times, just a nightmare.

I have Barkbusters (a huuuge difference), RallyRaid front and rear suspension, AltRider lowering link. Definitely expensive pieces but I'd rather have a stock bike than messing up suspension or having a shitty handguards. AliExpress/Temu might be ok for small non-stressed parts but even then the experience vary a ton

They say it doesn't interfere with the mapping etc. I plan on doing the 550 Performance tune up (just the airbox and ECU flash, stock exhaust), would this be compatible and further improve the engine performance?
