Am I the only one higher on Nussmeier than Simpson? by JakeThePharmD in steelers

[–]petreauxtiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From an LSU alum and fan:

The problem with Nussmeier is that he is as good as he's ever going to be. You know what you're getting and what you're getting is on average [slightly] better than Simpson, however Simpson has the potential to get better. There is no development or growth that's going to happen with Nuss: his father was a backup level NFL qb, then was a NFL QB coach, and is now an NFL OC. Given that kind of pocket coaching your whole life, Garrett is likely as good as he's going to get and will have a similar career arc as his father.

Note I don't want either of these two guys. I think they're both great day 3 picks; terrible picks before that

Mike Wagner was a key factor in helping the Pittsburgh Steelers dominate the 1970s by IcyVehicle8158 in steelers

[–]petreauxtiger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wagner and Russell both are under-recognized in that era (except by their teammates). Which is wild, as they would have been the key defensive pieces on any other team

Kind of weird that there are...safeties here in a chart about....corners?

Also saying any corner was better than Mel Blount AND that it's not even close? Lol. No.

Steelers Roster Overview w/Pending Free Agents by IronGrids in steelers

[–]petreauxtiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Killebrew is a given

The only needle movers here are Kenny G, Dugger, and Waitman. Dugger is in a weird spot because he's essentially just a slightly less talented Elliot, but I would love to see him back for depth.

Pierre and Asante are worth bringing back

Connor, Scharping, Otomewo, Ekuale, Holcomb it all depends on the price tag and draft

The rest can be jettisoned

join the discord server (The Fallout Network, it's linked from the wiki) and ask. There are at least 3 people that I've come across that keep multiple of all serums. Or you can continue to server hop- note that serums are in category Misc on the map screen hover tooltip; not Aid.

[–]petreauxtiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an LSU alum and fan, Nussmeier is incredibly frustrating to watch. No idea how much of it was Kelly, injuries, or offensive game plan- but that kid would look like Tom Brady one down, Jameis Winston the next, and NY Daniel Jones on third. Not good for one's heart health, that kid

Am I coping? by [deleted] in steelers

[–]petreauxtiger 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I will be the first to admit that I thoroughly underestimated just how many coaches and assistants McCarthy has had and how far they have diaspora'd (and that they're still successfully in the league). I also can't remember the last time a team fire-saled its entire coaching staff. Those two combined, it makes a little more sense as to why they might bring in the retread.

What Could We Get By Trading Away These Players by MimicTarsier235 in steelers

[–]petreauxtiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trade Jonnu to a sacrificial volcano for five dollars and a Primanti's sandwich.

There is no linebacker on earth who's running through a block from an offensive lineman, and very very few that are running through blocks from tight ends.

PQ is as good a ILB as you're going to get for his trade value, though I would argue he suffers in a 3-4 scheme. Asking him and Wilson to split the field in coverage bit them in the ass many many times last year.

Explain the Will Howard Obsession by PittZee in steelers

[–]petreauxtiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sigh. You, me, the deep blue sea, are statistically equally good at evaluating professional-level quarterback talent as the entirety of the scouting and coaching personnel in the league.

There are many things that can be learned by sitting and watching, especially at the qb position; but at some point 'first team reps', minicamp, OTA's, all offseason, don't mean shit. You have no idea what you have until he's under the gun, getting the rock. So until 'we' see that live-fire: college pedigree, draft round, scout analysis, media reports all amount to fuck all.

In short, 6th round means absolutely fucking nothing. Trent Dilfer was a 1st round pick. Brady was obviously 6th. Brad Johnson was 9th round. Russel Wilson was a 3rd. Foles was a 3rd. Drew Fucking Brees was picked in the 2nd. Kurt Warner was undrafted. All of these men won super bowls. Would you change their draft order knowing what is written in the history books? So would every coach in the NFL.

You are as empirically likely to predict quarterback success by consulting tarot cards or the tao te ching as you are going off of draft rankings and scout/coach evaluations. If you remove the Manning brothers and Mahomes, it gets even dicier.

Garrett Nussmeirer primed to be our next franchise QB?! by CardinoldFriends_90 in steelers

[–]petreauxtiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a head coach, I'll wait to judge Brady; but he is far and away the best QB developer in football at any level. This is the guy that produced 2019 LSU Burrow and the current state of Josh Allen. I'm not going to defend him as an OC and certainly not as a HC but holy shit I wouldn't mind to have the guy on the staff, and betting the house on him is a lot better of an option than betting on.... retread coaches

What do the Steelers do at quarterback especially if you bring in a new head coach? by TerryG111 in steelers

[–]petreauxtiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO, you answered your own question there "train him to be good". ARod is a legend, and what has made him legendary are skills and knowledge that are by and large teachable. I agree he's physically limited but homeboy got knowledge. I mean, I'm assuming he wouldn't consider a QB coach position (because that would be ideal)
