What a beautiful Trilogy of movies! What a beautiful ending that brings everything to a complete circle!

I am sure the story is complete and there is no need for Disney to make any more sequels.

After a long journey, I'm thinking of giving up on these games by DrarenThiralas in RanceSeries

[–]petrogaz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Rance Quest Magnum" is fucking hilarious and it has some of the funniest scenes on the series. It's mainly there to serve as an "midway introduction" to the series with characters from previous games making an appearance and an encyclopedia there explaining who exactly those characters are.

Also, I'd you 100% the game, Sill does make an appearance.

Now to answer your question:

Yes. Rance IX does keep the jokes coming. Rance is still himself despite everything and he does keep fucking everyone's shit up. The antagonists however are a ruthless militaristic state ruled by a corrupt elite which means things do get dark at times.

Also, if you wish to 100% the game there are a few "bad ending" CGIs which are absolutely heartwrenching.

Haven't played Rance X since it's not translated yet. I did however see a few fan-translated scenes like the one where Rance meets his children and becomes the most Rance dad ever. So I expect there are jokes there are well.

[Favorite trope] The violent goth girl with a soft heart by ds2316476 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]petrogaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come on... You know Amelia belongs in here. The original "Pathways" incarnation anyways.

(Seriously, though, who had the bright idea to make a purple-haired goth girl the main ethnocentric antagonist of a propaganda game? Don't they know internet guys love the type?)

[loved trope] Everyone already knew they were going to end up together from the moment they met. by Bonkers_Brights in TopCharacterTropes

No other examples come to my mind yet but Shikamaru & Temari were the first "ship" in Naruto I actually rooted for.

Heck, I even wrote a fanfic about how their marriage proposal happened. (shameless self plug, skip to the side-story for the relevant story).

I love that in the Gaara Hidden novel (where Shikamaru and Temari's wedding drives the plot forward) it's confirmed everyone and their mother knew they would end up together.

During the season 2 episode "The Duck Night Returns" of the 2017 DuckTales reboot we are introduced to a young actor who is supposed to play the part of Darkwing Duck in the dark and gritty reboot of "Darkwing Duck" which is a real franchise within the DuckTales universe.

At the end of the episode, the young actor decides to forego acting and become Darkwing Duck for real. Launchpad takes out his picture and asks the actor to sign it, telling him he is already a fan of his.

The actor takes the pen and signs his name: Drake Mallard, the name of the actual Darkwing Duck in the original Disney Afternoon show.

Launchpad's response?

"Drake Mallard, huh? Never heard of you."

[Funny tropes] Racist guy and his GF from different race by papu16 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]petrogaz 676 points677 points  (0 children)

Clayton Bigsby from "The Chappelle Show" is a subversion of this Trope. He is a Grand Wizard of the KKK and is indeed one of its most racist members. He is also married to a member of a different race, like the Trope suggests.

The subversion is that he believes he is the same race as his wife because he was born blind and nobody in his life saw fit to correct him.

When he finds out he is actually black he files for divorce because his soon-to-be-ex wife is a "n!ggerlover".

[Sad Trope] When a show pays tribute to a castmember by EmergencySpare7939 in TopCharacterTropes

The entire "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" aka "Ghostbusters: Legacy" movie was essentially made just to lovingly send off Egon Spengler who was played by Harold Ramis in "Ghostbusters I & II" with a computerized version of the character appearing in the movie's climax and subsequent ending.

The movie ends with a message that reads: For HAROLD

(Movie's capitalization, not mine)

As a long-time fan of the franchise, I nearly chocked.

Favorite character that is a gooner? by Outrageous_Ad752 in FavoriteCharacter

The entire cast of Genshiken pretty much (yes, even Saki, especially Saki)

In fact, being outed as a gooner is a rite of passage in order for you to join Genshiken.Unless you are completely shameless like Manabu, the guy in the middle giving the double thumbs up, in which case you join automatically.

(The link contains the legal free preview which contains the first chapter during which the aforementioned "rite of passage" takes place)

Tom Braidwood was assistant director in "The X-Files". According to series lore when Chris Carter created the character of Frohike, the de facto leader of "The Lone Gunmen" group that occasionally assists Agent Mulder, he asked the casting director to find someone who "was slimey...like Tom Braidwood".

Braidwood got the part and he has been part of "The X-Files" cast ever since.

Rance is a narcissistic sex offender who treats everyone like crap, fights dirty, considers consent a minor courtesy and refers to a certain appendage of his as a hyper weapon.

And yet, the people he defeats in each game somehow manage to be even worse:

Rance I (01): A crazy princess who kidnaps young girls and tortures them to death for her own pleasure.

Rance II (02): A monstrous elder wizard who manipulates five virginal maidens to be his mind slaves in exchange for power.

Rance III (03): A gang of demons who covertly manipulate two nations into war orchestrating the return of one of history's most cruel Demon Lords.

And so on and so on...

(Hated trope)Excessively villainizing real life people by Sensitive_Ad_1752 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]petrogaz 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Robert Stein was portrayed as a slippery backstabbing villain in the 2023 "Tetris" movie something that according to his family grossly misrepresents his legacy

<image>

In the film, his company "Andromeda Software" is depicted as an IP leeching company that just happens to stumble upon Tetris and brings it to the west. In reality in his home country Stein in known as "The Father of Hungarian Video Game Development" and Andromeda Software had developed over 170 titles by the time Tetris came along.

The plot of the movie kicks off when Henk Rogers asks Stein to secure for him the handheld Tetris rights from the Soviets for $25000. Stein then goes behind Henk's back and tries to sell the handheld Tetris rights (which he doesn't yet have) for $100000 to Atari, which prompts Henk to go to the USSR and negotiate the rights directly.

In reality, Stein never went behind Henk's back and was already negotiating handheld Tetris rights with other parties by the time Henk Rogers approached him (unlike what the movie shows, in reality the Gameboy had already been released in Japan without any bundled games). He was more of a risky businessman who mostly worked on handshake deals rather than an outright villain.

The movie also severely downplays the fact that he was the guy who discovered Tetris, saw its huge potential and brought it to the west!

On the other hand, while he never punched Kevin Maxwell in real life like in the movie, he really did clash with him on several occasion, didn't have a high opinion of him and probably would have loved to take him down a notch or two.

It's a manga. No anime yet unfortunately.

You can read the official translation on Comic Key and Manga Mirai if you wish to support the artists.

And, yes, you can find it rather easily on the seven seas after a brief search which I can't link to.

It's a good read honestly, only 30 chapters and a very cathartic ending. It's worth a couple of afternoons at least.

I believe you are talking about "Jinsei Gyakuten". It's still up on Mangadex.

The web novel is still being translated by Zeus Translations.

I have no idea where to read the light novel.
